This was our 2nd stay here, and we had not booked. Hadn't realised it was a holiday long weekend so were disappointed when we were told there were no rooms available in the main hotel. However, Carlos on reception was fantastic. He took us to an annexe of the hotel and showed us a huge room which was perfectly fine. It had a little balcony, and while no inbuilt a/c there was a portable cooler which worked well. He also directed us to parking basically right outside our room for only 5 euros til next morning. We took the half board option, this included breakfast and dinner for only 140 euros. This hotel is in a great position in the piazza. But Carlos really made our stay perfecto.

First the strong points.... The location in the town center is great, staff were very friendly and professional, the bed was very comfortable, the air conditioning worked well, the room was a nice size and the continental breakfast had a decent selection. On the other hand, I've given the average rating based on some issues with the room. The decor was very dated and dark - with dark paneling on one wall and extremely poor lighting. Bathroom lighting wasn't good either and the shower space was uncomfortably small as the extra long shower curtain pooled around your feet and reduced the space in which you could move. Apart from the dated decor, which in itself isn't always a big deal for us, aspects of the room were in need of some TLC, like updating the sink faucet, replacing marked mirror tiles on the wall....As already noted all the room configurations are different so my comments don't necessarily apply across the board. All things considered, for the location and a comfortable play to sleep we would stay here again.

Dear guest,
thanks for sharing your experience here in Norcia.
Just like you said in the hotel we have different typology of rooms. We are sorry you didn't find your room suitable for your stay. Our staff is always available for our guest to make their stay pleasent, and I'm sure that if you would have told them the problem they would have solved everything in short notice.
On the other hand we are glad you appreciated the position of the hotel, right next to St. Benedict Square, as well as the great job our staff does on daily basis.
Ospitality is our must word and we are looking forward to have you in Norcia again, in a room that fits better your desire!
Arrivederci a Norcia

We checked into the hotel for seven days in May. On the first day we noticed that there was no remote control for our air conditioner. We asked for one every day and it took the hotel five days to get one for us. Each day there was a different excuse from the front desk. When we did receive the remote the air conditioning only partially worked. Our room was small, poorly ventilated, and very warm. I could not in good conscience recommend this property to anyone who wants a comfortable, relaxing stay in a remote Italian village.

While some of the food was good (pastas and soups), the main courses in the dining room tended to be of small portions and poor quality (dry meats, poor cuts). Overall a very disappointing stay and I would never consider this property again.

Room Tip: The village is charming. I'd recommend choosing a room at another hotel!

I am Vincenzo Bianconi are one of the owners of this property. I'm disappointed that she has not found her well during her stay in our hotel.

The Hotel Grotta Azzurra is the oldest hotel in Norcia, has been converted from a read expansion that lasted 160 years between the houses and small buildings nearby .

In a historic hotel like this , there are two rooms are the same size, we have for small , medium and very large , as you can imagine their assignment depends on the availability and the price paid .

In a hotel like this in the old town for the opening of large windows and balconies is prohibited, even if we have some rooms with large windows, balconies and views of discrete .... But only a few.
Each room is equipped with independent air conditioner air conditioning and radiators for heating.
The temperatures we had during his stay were 8 degrees Celsius at night and 23 degrees Celsius as the maximum daily at 2.00 pm .

Many of our guests seeing the remote control of air conditioning cold room use it as if it were not for the heating and often we had to deal with this problem in this spring very mad. We then removed from all rooms remotes .

We're sorry me and my family have been slow in putting them back this was our mistake , but the rooms could not be hot , the night is still sleeping here with winter blanket .

With regard to meat dishes served at the restaurant, we use the culinary tradtions of our territory.

The stewed meat and accompanied by sauces and funds are not part of our tradition.
The Granaro del Monte is one of the oldest restaurants in Italy , many of our meats are cooked on the grill because we have a large fireplace in our rooms.

All the prducts we use are quality however , many of these , and especially the meat coming
from small local farms at zero distance .

I hope to see you again in Norcia , we have a very diverse range of accommodation and dining , we are confident of being able to offer what you are looking for.

The rooms vary from miniscule to adequate but are clean. The beds are narrow and hard.
The food is bland, bland, bland.
Although all our meals were pre paid we choose to go to the local pizza cafe for a wonderful tasty fresh pizza instead of dry meat, more bones than meat and cold wilted vegies And ordinary desserts lacking in any kind of culinary skill. The hotel has 40 rooms but feeds hundreds literally and it shows.
Every morning the fruit salad is just added to, slowly decomposing below until we complained. The cake is the same every day getting drier and drier and the bread terrible because there was a tax on salt and so no salt is used.
The location is brilliant but eat elsewhere. Be warned that the family that owns this hotel owns most of the village.

Dear Madam , I am Vincenzo Bianconi one of the owners of the Hotel Grotta Azzurra.
I'm sorry that it was not satisfied with her stay. I need to make some clarifications and explanations to his observations that respect but do not agree.

The rooms are as you say between small and medium , I would add that we have also seen several large with two bathrooms over 45 square meters.

The beds are hard, because we have recently purchased the new ergonomic mattresses ,

Our beds reply to European standards , are wide between 80 and 100 centimeters square , and in the historic centers have many planning restrictions and little space.

Our breakfast is made with regard to the desserts : cookies, biscuits , croissants , homemade jam tart and a donut this also homemade . The donut is our sweet for breakfast for 160 years , we make it fresh every night, is a historic recipe of our family and is adored and bought by many of our guests.

The salad and fruit is made fresh every morning .

I'm glad you enjoyed the pizza made in Norcia, here the food is good in all restaurants including our own .

Regarding the property that as a family we have in the country will try to be more specific . We have 5 hotels, a gourmet restaurant, a traditional restaurant, a wine bar and in partnership with some of our friends we have 2 specialty shops and a travel agency, as well as a transport .

For your information I add that everything was built with the restaurant of Hotel Grotta Azzurra, the heart of our company. With the loyalty of guests who choose us for generations and we discover new travelers .

We are a family that puts us face , we are there 7 days a week 15 hours a day to try to make the living room and the dining experience in our restaurant satisfactory for our guests .

We may be wrong , not getting all the donuts they can with the hole, but we work only products of the highest quality , fresh, prepared with love and passion. They may not like it, but for them to demonize our work and our seriousness there is a lot of distance .

The appearance again in Norcia to make them even knowing and seeing the people who work in our kitchen , the pasta is made in house every day ( with a car it is obvious given the number of seats that we do) , with local eggs , ground flour stone , fresh meat that come to us from the farms of the valley

The hotel is very close to the main square, and you can enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of this charming town. The building is a historical grain store and it has a very good restaurant, with local specialities, very recomendable. The attendants of the hotel were very gentle. The only default we felt was that we couldn't connect the wifi. And breakfast was rather simple, maybe it's because the whole prize is economic.

Staying here is all about location - centre of town, but more significantly ready access to a great restaurant serving some amazing local delights. There's tartufo with just about everything. This area is a foodie's delight and this hotel is a great base to explore from. Just be sure not to skimp on the rooms, book one of the better ones.

Room Tip: We willing to spend a little extra

This is an old quirky hotel right in the centre of town, a minute or two from the Main Square very
and I really enjoyed the local food. Many of the rooms are very small - in fact the first Room that they gave us was so small that one of us would've had to sit on the bed if the other one wanted to move around the room. However the very helpful staff gave us another room although entertainingly they gave the room that we had refused to other members of our party who arrived later in the day. They too asked to move and were accommodated elsewhere. everything worked but bathroom in particular needed an upgrade. lots of early morning noise from street cleaners etc but the upside of that was an immaculate and stunningly beautiful town centre. I'm giving it 4 stars for the location and the food and because everything did work . But the owners do need to spend a bit on an upgrade - Very dark rooms would be improved by the removal of heavy dark furniture and paintwork and having to reassemble the concertina shower door each time was a bit of a pain as was fact that shower head was at chest height. ....but on the whole we had a fun time and weather was great so these were small things

Room Tip: 268 is by no stretch of the imagination big enough to be a twin room
