Description: Caffè Poliziano Historical Place of Italy. This spacious and elegant Caffè in the historical centre of Montepulciano is a fine example of Art Nouveau design. For generations visitors and local residents have been able to enjoi a glorious view of of the Valdichiana from the balcony. Distinguished guests have included Carducci, Pirandello, Prezzolini, Malaparte, Mario del Monaco, Giulietta Masina,Ornella Muti,, Mario monicelli, Marina Doria di Savoia, Enrico Rava, Mauro Bolognini, Giorgio Battistelli, Licia Colò.... In 1992 the Caffè was lovingly restored to its former glory. Federico Fellini, who visited the "Poliziano" soon after, considered the atmosphere and style to be worthy of a great Central European city such as Vienna or Prague.

“Stunning views”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 3, 2012

No afternoon shopping experience would be complete without a coffee at Caffe Poliziano. It looked very intriguing and the ambiance and pastries lured us in! Our visit was mid afternoon and the service was a little slow. The menu is quite extensive, and took some time to make a choice, which tea, or maybe a coffee..decisions, and then which 'goodie' a nice place to contemplate the days purchases, while enjoying the stunning views! Just a shame about the smoking on outside balconies.

“Beautiful View”

We only had appetizers and drinks. But the food was good and the people were really friendly. Especially since our Italian is not great. The view is fantastic.

“Stunning views, good food and a cooling shower too!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 9, 2012

We chose this caffe at random quite late on in the lunch hour. We went to the downstairs terrace, and the only table available was in the blazing sun, which we accepted. The waiter then came and shuffled the table and chairs around so we were all in the shade.
We were only looking for a light lunch so all chose a bowl of pasta each, and asked the waiter to recommend a good local white wine to try and help with the heat of the day. His recommendation was superb, fetched a couple of bottles home and will be ordering more off the Internet too! The pasta was fresh and tasty.
And the view. Stunning, you couldn't have a better panoramic view to watch whilst you ate. And an added bonus, there was a misting system in place all round the terrace, really welcome in 40+ degrees.
The food we had was good, the waiter was chatty and friendly, highly recommended for lunch. I would go back without hesitation.

“Try the pici”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 7, 2012

Try the pici if you can keep you eyes of the view. Fellini , Pirandello ... They've all been here! I imagine they got slightly more attention than we did... But as soon as the ice was broken (we ordered a decent lunch) service improved hugely. It's a great cafe in the same way as must see Florians in the north around these parts Ploziano is a must visit.

The local pasta is pici - a thick round noodle maybe five times thicker than spaghetti- we had it with porcini - fantastic.

“Definitely not a warm and fuzzy feeling.....”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 4, 2012

We had walked by this restaurant several times so we decided to give it a try. It appeared as though the staff were exhausted and they were not friendly at all. We ordered an Aperol Spritz and Pasta Carbonara. When the drinks arrived they had one ice cube, when we asked for more ice they said "no more ice." The carbonara arrived and the sauce was full of chunks of 'scrambled eggs.' It was really terrible, the worst pasta we had on our entire trip. When I showed it to the waitress, she just shrugged her shoulders, picked up the plate and walked off.
Montepulciano has some wonderful restaurants with friendly people, this is not one of them.
