Description: The Osteria ACQUACHETA, open for over 25 years, has retained the characteristics of the old Tuscan taverns. The kitchen, sharing tables, one glass for water and wine, and not least an authentic welcome and true, typically Tuscan, make it a local flavor ... you feel at home ... Managers, CHIARA and GIULIO, have maintained intact over the years the tradition of pasta, bread, cakes and homemade preserves to which are added succulent steaks cooked Florentine embers of wood. Local, small and very popular, is located in the upper part of the old town, a few steps from the main square.

wonderful food and service, always good to talk to other people from other countries, not a 5 star place but one you have to try when you are within a 20k radius of Montipuliciano. To hear the cleaver drop thru the bone and onto the wood butcher board to cut the meat you are going to eat is to be remembered. We got filets but thought the regular t-bone would have been more interesting. Everything was very good - pasta's, salad, wine, company, service, etc. We loved the place and will be back!

Let's start from the bottom line - we felt so lucky to make it with no reservations at the first night, that we modified our trip plans to make sure we get there for the second time with reservations.
Don't try to get there with no reservations. They are fully booked sometimes few nights ahead. This is a noisy family style restaurant with a very unique and authentic feeling to it. You will remember the people who serve you there...
To summarize the two meals we had: Everything was AMAZING. Bruschetta with tomatos - Perfect. Bruschetta with liver pate - Perfect. Pasta with tomato sauce - perfect. Pasta with meat sauce - Perfect. T-Bone - Great. Fillet - here is the big mistake of our trip...we got only 500 grams of this perfect steak. What a huge mistake!! It is not on the menu...ask if they have. Peach pie - Perfect. Chocolate cake - very good.
Perfect Italian meal. Authentic place. And the price - you cannot beat it... unbelievable value for the money. If anything, this restaurant is a reason to come back to Montepulciano (which is one of our favorite Italian cities). did we say Don't miss it???

Make reservations early, days in advance! My husband and I tried to get in the day we arrived in town, but they were filled for both their 7:30 and 9:30pm. The next night they only had 9:30pm available, so we took that.

The seating is osteria style, so get comfortable with your neighbors! We actually ended up making good friends with 2 of the women sitting next to us and ordered the same thing (fiorentina) so the owner gave us a discounted price on one large corner piece of meat to split. There is also only 1 glass, so if you order both wine and water (which we did) you have to switch out which you want in your glass.

It's high energy, fast paced, and WONDERFUL steak. It is cooked more on the rare/ medium-rare side (I usually order medium), but tasted delicious and I wanted them to prepare it how they saw fit. We also ordered a pear salad which was great to split (and dessert, chocolate cheesecake!)

The night ends by the owner writing your check on the paper table cloth and totaling up the bill; they did accept credit card.

One of our favorite restaurants on our 2 week trip throughout Italy and a nice break from pasta as well. Definitely recommend going here if you're stopping or staying in Montepulciano!

We didn't have reservations and went for dinner at 7:30pm (19:30) when they opened. We were turned away so we came back the next night only to be turned away again. This time we made reservations for the next night and had luck. The place is tiny and Giulio will entertain you by bringing a slab of meat the size of a same calf for you to see before he cooks it.

Part of the evening's entertainment is Giulio "cutting" the steaks... which he does with a cleaver that would make Lizzy Borden jealous! The whack of it on the chopping block literally makes everyone in the place jump in unison.

It's a "must see" experience in Montepulicano. JUST MAKE SURE YOU GET RESERVATIONS!

If you want to eat a real good fiorentina in Tuscany, this is the place. The dining room is jam packed. You order by the size of the cut of meat (minimum 1.5 kilo) and Giulio cuts the meat and presents it to you before grilling. Don't order anything else besides a salad, you won't have room. The wine list is the few bottles lining the wall. You can drink the vino casa but I highly recommend the vino nobile Poliziano Reserva 2007. The whole experience is just amazing. And the price is too. The fiorentina is only 3 euros per 100 grams. One warning though. You won't get in unless you make a reservation well in advance. Otherwise, hope for a 9:30 seating.
