“Simply Superb”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 14, 2013

We picked the restaurant simply because of its unique location -- overseeing the San Biagio and right beside a path that leads to the town of Montepulcino. We were surprised not only by the quality of the food but also the impeccable service. The owner David is extremely courteous, to the point that we felt we had to order a full course meal. But no, he wasn't pushy, and we couldn't eat that much anyway. We love every moment of our stay and we wholeheartedly recommend a visit to the restaurant if one is in the area.

“Excellent meal”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 8, 2013

We really enjoyed our dinner at La Grotta, recommended by our Villa. The restaurant is at the bottom of the hill, just outside the city walls, near the Duomo San Biagio, and has very easy parking, and although that was not a consideration in picking the restaurant, it did make us happy that we didn't have to negotiate the hill and parking lots again.

The space is elegant, and while large, is in multiple rooms (and even outdoors) so we felt cozy in one of the rooms that was nearly full. The servers were very nice and efficient. The tasting menu looked good to us, so we decided to give it a try (at 48€ each), and we ordered glasses of white wine to go with the early dishes, and glasses of a local Nobile to match with the later ones. All our wines were good.

Our meal was one of the best we had on our trip of 3 weeks, and worth the price. The amuse of zucchini mousse was lovely, and our menu dishes were great (zucchini and eggplant baked, duck liver on crostini, tomato soup, pigeon ravioli, stewed beef, and a dessert sampler of pear sorbet, sambucca parfait, and warm chocolate cake piece with orange).

The dishes ordered by other tables looked to be good too. We definitely recommend La Grotta for a special meal in Montepulciano.

“Very high quality food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 5, 2013

We had dinner here based on a recommendation of the hotel we were staying in. We ordered the 5 course tasting menu and matching wines.
The service was very friendly and welcoming and its a nice cosy place to eat.
The quality of the cooking and presentation were very good and generally the food was very tasty. The main course while well cooked was not to our liking. We didn't like the foie gras or polenta components of the roast pigeon dish.
However looking around at what other diners ordered, it was clear that other main courses looked very appertising and we would definitely have eaten everything on the plate.
We would definitely eat here again.

“Great Food Great Service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 5, 2013

We dined here based on a recommendation of our Villa we are staying at and the review of local website recommending this as the best restaurant in Montepulciano. Our food here was fantastic and the service excellent. Upon arrival we received complimentary wine and a canapé which was a great touch. It's hard to fault this place but I wouldn't say it's the best. Overall a great dining experience and would definitely recommend it to anyone after a nice evening meal. I had the quail which was prepared perfectly and my wife the beef stew which she thoroughly enjoyed. Overall do some research check the menu and if u choose this place you won't be disappointed.

“Simply the Best”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 4, 2013

The best restaurant we ate at in our entire 11 day trip to Italy. The owner and staff were incredibly nice and welcoming. The setting is beautiful right outside the own walls. The white truffle dishes and eggplant parmesan was to die for, and the wine selection outstanding. The pasta with tomatoes, garlic and basil and the Tuscan beef stew were amazingly delicious. We will eat there every time we go back to Montepulciano.
