“Incredible Stay!”
Reviewed February 21, 2014

It has been quite some time since I stayed here, but I did want to write up a review as this villa is worth it! This was at the end of a week and a half visit to Italy, and it was an incredible way to relax and destress from the hustle and bustle of Rome and Florence. The owners are amazing, and are very helpful with where to go explore around Tuscany, and even offer their own cooking class on certain days of the week. I have recommended this hotel to many friends, and will continue to do so. The views are breathtaking, the pool is quite large, and it's just a picturesque scene. Also right down the road from one of the top restaurants in Tuscany!

the Relais is very nice : large swimming pool, nice garden and view, calm.
However we would have appreciated for this range of price a hearty breakfast, renewed better, and a much better bedding.
And maybe a chair for baby (however there was a baby bed)

Room Tip: we had a big room with small terrace but a view on swimming pool and valley, big bathroom with lot o...

As we were admiring the view of Montepulciano from our car, little did we know that we had arrived at Relais Ortaglia. Our experience here was truly Tuscan. The rooms were comfortable and spacious. The grounds were beautiful. Vistas of Tuscan vineyards, a beautiful pool, and Montepulciano in the background were amazing Our owner/hosts provided us with meals, stories, conversations, tours, cooking lessons, and back road directions to really see and experience the small towns of Tuscany.
Each morning we talked about the days planned events over a well prepared and presented breakfast.
Our hosts Terencio and Mara were great. They were Concerned with making our stay perfect while taking care of all and any details. Our kitchen table Saturday lunch with Terencio and Mara was one of the highlights of our trip.

Room Tip: There is a balcony -steps to the vineyard rear facing room that is very nice..

Thank you Mara and Terenzio. Relais Ortaglia was the perfect base to explore Tuscany. I enjoyed my early morning coffee time with Mara and our wonderful tours of Tuscany with Terenzio (let Terenzio order lunch for you on his tours). We never tired of the view over the vineyards and looking up at the lovely town of Montepulciano (3 minutes away). Ask Mara about making Pici and cooking a plate of wild boar (yum). Loved the outdoor shower house! Phil and Sarah

My wife and I last visited Relais Ortaglia 3 years ago as part of a week long tour of southern Tuscany and Umbria as well taking some cooking classes with the wonderful hosts, Mara and Terenzio, and in Montepulciano. It was one of our best experiences in a lifetime of some pretty good travels.
This years experience was shorter and Mara was away but everything else was as great as the previous visit. Terenzio made sure we had they same room with views on three sides - a front view looking into the valley; backview overlooking their olives, grapes, and garden; a bathroom view looking up to the town of Montepulciano a few hundred yards away.
You stay at Ortaglia for peace and quiet, good friendship with the owners and assistants, and because you can reach so much of Tuscany from it. We spent a day in Siena, 1+ hours away if you stay off the highways and drive the beautiful roads of Val D'Orcia; another afternoon in Pienza just 15 minutes away, and a night in Montepulciano - you can walk in 20 minutes or drive in less than 5 (drive - it is a beautiful and very hilly hilltown).
Terenzio is terrific host, can take you on tours of the area if you prefer or provide excellent directions that keep away from traffic - we saw many more people on bikes than cars.
Don't forget to ask Terenzio to provide you samples of the families wines - from all over Italy from lower Tuscany north.
Looking for a place to slow down yet have many, many things to do and places to see, as well as be treated almost like family, choose Ortaglia and Montepulciano.

Room Tip: if you can book the Poggiola suite looking up toward town you've hit gold. Views described above...

Our stay at the Relais Ortaglia was outstanding! The grounds are well-kept, peaceful and beautiful with a gorgeous pool and fantastic views. The rooms have all the necessary amenities while still maintaining all of the old world charm we were looking for, but most importantly they are very clean. Ours had its own private balcony on which we could sit to watch the gorgeous sunsets. There was also a lovely terrace overlooking the rolling hills and vineyards, which was a perfect place to end the night with a glass of wine in hand.

The villa is situated very close to the town of Montepulciano - just a five minute drive - which is a very picturesque, quaint and charming town perched on the edge of a hill. The is plenty to do and see there, and the restaurants we ate at were superb. Not to miss is a wine cellar located about three stories down below street level (in a cave). The owner gives free wine tastings, too!

Terenzio and Mara are friendly, speak English well, and are very helpful. Every morning Terenzio took time to give us detailed directions for us to tour the region, and had many great suggestions for what to see and do, and even where to eat when we got there. We took a cooking class the last evening we were there, with wines served from Terenzio's own vineyards. The food was fresh and delicious, and I highly recomend the cooking class if you are at all interested in good, fresh food cooked in a true Tuscan kitchen with awesome hosts.

I would stay there again in a heartbeat!
