“Heaven on Earth in Montepulciano”

Rustic and beautiful with all the amenities in the heart of Italy's wine and God's country. Elaine and I (though not religious) are particularly blessed for having met and come to know Mara and Terenzio Biscardo, the owners and proprietors of Relais Ortaglia. Together, they are the most accommodating and sincere couple we have ever encountered in all our travels.
If you plan to travel to Tuscany, don't stay anywhere else.
Added bonuses: Partake of Mara's cooking class. Never had so much fun, food and wine in our lives. Partake of Terenzio's all day tour (lunch included) all around Monte Amiata. Just amazing.
Relais Ortaglia is a special place. To la famiglia!

I would suggest staying here rather than Montepulciano. The manager was very good, the villa beautiful and breakfast excellent.

My husband and I stayed at Relais Ortaglia for a night as we were driving through Tuscany.....bug mistake....one night was just not enough. This B&B has the most wonderful setting, the photos don't actually do it justice, esp the swimming pool overlooking the vineyards. The hosts here as super friendly and I was very disappointed we didn't stay long enough to samples all their wines - we bought a bottle to take with us and it was lovely. Def worth a good few nights visit. Rooms are very comfortable, clean and certainly the biggest we stayed in in Italy. It's a bit of a drive to get into Montepulciano but if you want a real country experience this is just perfect.

We stayed at Relais Ortaglia for three nights in the beginning of June. We had a wonderful stay - Mara & Terenzio are wonderful hosts. Great location just 1K from Montepulciano. The photos on their website do not do the grounds justice - it's an absolutely beautiful place. Refreshing swimming pool, amazing views of Montepulciano, herb garden, rose garden, indoor showers by the pool, an outdoor stone shower, sunset veranda overlooking vineyards and fruit trees galore. We loved hanging out by the pool after a day of exploring the famous Tuscan hill towns. Our room was very large and very clean. Antiques throughout the inn give it a very "homey" feel. Great breakfast too. Besides the breakfast basics of Italy, Mara makes a few extra special treats too. We even had freshly made pizza one day! yum!

We expected excellence, as we had heard of this lovely property before we arrived, but we were simply astounded and overwhelmed by the beautuful countryside, accommodations, and the incredible staff (and fabulous owner!). This is a place to lose yourself in relaxation and enjoy a vacation of a lifetime!!!

My husband and I stayed here and it was more beautiful than the pictures show. The grounds were amazing from every view. Terenzio gave us maps and directions for the area, He was extremely helpful and very available for advise. The location was very good to drive to different areas in Tuscany and site see. I highly recommend this place!!!!

For my 65th birthday my wife booked a week to Relais Ortaglia (via cooking-vacations.com) just a mile outside the southern Tuscan hilltop town of Montepulciano. Staying over a week with the most wonderful hosts, Terenzio and Mara; it was more like being in their home. We took family-style cooking classes from Mara using their own luscious olive oil, while Terenzio poured his delicious Montepulciano Rossa and di Nobile wine and homemade Nocchino. The place is simply beautiful with large country style rooms.Ours had views up to the town as well as onto their olive trees, grapes, vegetable garden, and swimming pool.
Days were spent touring the beautiful Val D'Orcia, visiting and lunching in medieval towns once stops for pilgrims in the middle ages. We also visited Pienza, San Gimagnano, Orvieto, Assisi and Cortona, all within 1-2 hours drive. The restaurants Terenzio recommended were extraordinary with their locally sourced food and wines. He can also direct you (or take you) to terrific wineries and the best Pecorino.
Relais Ortaglia allowed us experience the true majesty of Tuscany, allowed us to slow down and enjoy the pace and life of ageless Tuscany - that means walking thru 1000 year old tonwn, enjoying a 2 ½ hr. lunch of local food and wine while sitting back and viewing the spectacular vistas, then returning to Ortaglia to watch Montepulciano turn a deep orange as the sun sets.

“Between Arts and Paridise”. This certainly is the most appropriate way to describe the location of our farmhouse. In fact ORTAGLIA is casted towards the art of Montepulciano, with its roofs which show all the shades of garnet red, and the dome of San Biagio, third in the word for wideness and significance. On the same time the hill where the farmhouse stands out is plunged into the tranquillity and the charm of the tuscan countryside, muse of famous artists and poets. On the top of this hill, between art and paradise, in the middle of seventeen century have been laid the foundations of the ORTAGLIA farmhouse. ... more   less
