“Such a wonderful host”
Reviewed December 29, 2013 via mobile

A friend and I took a room each here for a night before a wedding we were attending. From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel special in a wonderfully understated way. Nothing was too much trouble and despite arriving much later than expected, Laura greeted us in such a friendly manner that we immediately felt at ease. The rooms are beautiful and the hosts very thoughtful, from biscotti and wine in the room, to a wonderfully refreshing juice on arrival and the most spectacular choice of superb quality food to choose from at breakfast, from freshly-baked savoury and sweet cakes (baking when we arrived!) to a range of organic yoghurts, fresh fruits, breads, cheeses, cold meats and cereals, all presented beautifully. Il Tosco is wonderfully grand and at the same time intimate. Although we were the only guests, il Tosco has only a few rooms, so I can well imagine that, like us, it always feels like you are the only guests. With such unforced service, it is easy to imagine during a stay here, that you are one of the nobles who lived in this beautiful house in the past. The work that has gone into restoring it and the fabulous service makes this something very special indeed. I cannot wait to return.

My wife and I just stayed at Il Tosco last week. It is one of the best places we have ever had the privilege of enjoying anywhere in the world. Everything about it is perfect...amazing location and views, luxurious accommodations, impeccable service, wonderful breakfast...a place that you hate to leave. Elena and her family made our short stay truly memorable. We'll be back for sure!

What a truly beautiful place to stay ! Beside the beautiful appointments in each room, Elena, the manager and her family really added to the overall great experience. Every recommendation and direction were spot on. Every restaurant she recommended was superb. Her mother and father were so delightful to visit with during Aperitif and can't wait to get back there and see them again. The few days we stayed there were the very best part of our Tuscan trip. The beds were some of the finest and most comfortable I've ever spent a night in. The linens were beautiful. There were antique books everywhere. Elena's mother told us some of the history of the building and showed us pictures of some of the people who had lived in the house in the past. It was all very interesting. The view from my window was as beautiful as a picture. And then there's the location - perfect! Just walk out the door and the town is yours. We would start our day off with Il Tosco's fabulous breakfast. There was a huge variety of things to eat and among them were delicious and delightful baked goods that Elena's mother and sister made. Everything about our stay at Il Tosco was perfection. I dream of the day I get back there.

Il Tosco is a renovated palazzo that combines modern amenities whilst retaining much of the building’s history. We booked the musician’s room for 3 nights which included original restored furnishings, comfortable beds covered with exquisite embroidered Tuscan linen, gorgeous travertine bathrooms and a beautifully decorated and spacious living area filled with antiques original to the building. All so, so clean. We would awaken every morning to breathtaking views that reminded us we were in Tuscany – and then there was the breakfast…unbelievable! Each morning we were greeted with a buffet of fresh home cooked delights that made us want to linger for hours …it was dangerous. Elena and her family are truly amazing and showed us service and hospitality that exceeded any 5 star hotel. We stayed at Il Tosco in September and my boys are still talking about Elena! Thankyou to the whole family for everything… your recommendations (for restaurants, shopping, wine, places to visit..), the wonderful conversation AND your magnificent cooking! We hope to return one day soon – Il Tosco and Montepulciano now hold a special place in our heart. xx

This place is truly special. We found it as it was so high up on Trip Advisor and are so pleased we stayed here. We had a horrible getting there as a freak storm was taking the motorway away as we travelled there and we almost had to cancel however we are so pleased that we didn't have to. Recommendations for wine tasting and dinner were fantastic and we only wish we could have stayed longer. Our room was fantastic and couldn't have asked for anything better. Looking forward to returning next year already.

Room Tip: The rooms just off the breakfast rooms are fantastic!

After a long flight into Rome and a two hour drive that included a few hair raising minutes on the narrow and winding streets of Montepulciano, we arrived at Il Tosco. My wife and I travel frequently but rarely have stayed somewhere so lovely. The villa, our room, the setting and the hospitality were outstanding. Elena, our host, went above and beyond to ensure our stay was flawless, including driving our rental car to the car park because the steep hills and stick shift had left me somewhat unsure of safely navigating my way there. Our room, the Dante, was spacious with a gorgeous bathroom that included a separate shower and a two-person whirlpool tub. The view from the window down into the valley was spectacular. The complimentary bottle of wine was a nice and appreciated gesture. They also have a selection of wine to purchase using an honor system that we also took advantage of. The Continental breakfast is a misnomer - it is more like a Sunday brunch at a fancy hotel with a wide and range of breads, cheeses, fruits, yogurt, salmon, meats, quiche and delicious homemade (by Elena's mother and sister) baked treats. Elena will also arrange a trip to a local winery if you intend to do any wine tasting - although there are plenty of opportunities to do so in town. Lastly, if you stay here ask Elena for her favorite restaurant. We went for lunch and it was the best meal of our entire trip. I can't say enough about how wonderful Il Tosco is.

I have already seen many excellent reviews of Il Tosco, but this is the kind of place that simply merits repeated special mention. Great location (inside the town center but with fantastic views over the Val d'Orcia), beautiful palazzo like premises and the kind of warm hospitality that is well " above and beyond". Whether at a glorious breakfast or at an evening wine and cheese get together, this meets and even exceeds what you would like a stay in Tuscany to be like. We cannot wait to return next summer.
