I have travelled all over Italy many times and I can honestly say this the most amazing, authentic and flavoursome meals I've ever had. I started with the medieval onion soup, followed by the pici with truffle and porcini, with the tiramisu for dessert. Each course was an explosion of flavour. It is all cooked and seasoned to absolute perfection - each dish strikes a balance between refined, high quality restaurant food, and insanely authentic, traditional, and beautiful tastes.
The food alone is enough reason to go here but the service and ambiance is really something special. The waiters and maître d' make you feel so happy and at home, while the restaurant itself is somewhat of a gallery, with plenty to look at and enjoy - even photos of past patrons such as Cate Blanchette, Jack Nicholson, and Robert Pattinson. The owner is full of life and love - serenading his customers and taking the time to have a chat.
If you want a unique, fun experience with food that is guaranteed to make you swoon, look no further.
This restaurant is everything you imagine Italy should be. YUM!

We did not eat in every single restaurant whilst in Montepulciano so we cannot state it was the best but it was certainly in a different league from the others we visited. The atmosphere is romantic and special and the food was innovative and delicious. A little on the expensive side but most certainly worth a visit.

My husband and I stopped in here based on a recommendation from friends. We loved the atmosphere from the moment we walked in. The owner, Pier welcomed us enthusiastically. I would say he is the star of the restaurant (he has a huge personality and he sings beautifully), but after tasting our pastas, it is clear that his wife, who is the chef, is ultimately the reason the restaurant is successful. My husband had the pasta with wild boar ragu, and I had the pasta with porcini mushrooms. Each mouthful an explosion of flavour. We both agreed they were the best pasta dishes in Italy so far, and we had some pretty special ones in Rome and Florence. Do not miss this experience -- a true joy!!

This was our worst experience in Italian dining. We waited ages to be served and when asking the waiter about the food, he was totally inaccurate. Our son's squid we were told was "in a tomato sauce" neglecting to mention that it contained volcanic levels of chilli; this was served to an eleven year old. The rabbit was all bones and little meat with little to recommend about the "ancient recipe", a steak was acceptable though drenched in sweet sauce.
The worst thing was the effusiveness of the owner, he was overstepped the boundaries when addressing our child, his singing to the other guests was appalling and intrusive, he kept returning to our table and touching all of us and we couldn't leave soon enough.
To cap off an unpleasant experience as per the experience of others, the assertion for cash was strongly made. A tourist trap and a tax dodge, avoid at all cost.

In two weeks of Italian travel, this restaurant was a complete experience: excellent food, an inviting decor, a fine waiting staff, and a congenial host. It is tucked away and unassuming. It is comfortable inside with a wide, countryside vista. Pier, host and owner, is a delight; Elda, his wife and cook, serves a fine assortment of dishes. Complements of wine and desserts made this the best meal we had during our travels. Not to be missed! SHC
