“As usual FANTASTIC”
Reviewed June 21, 2013 via mobile

I have been staying at Sant Antonio for 14 years now, and still I am blown away by its beauty and excellent standards every time I visit.
This is a 12th century monastery set in olive groves with a beautiful swimming pool. It is split into 13 very tastefully done apartments all with cooking facilities.
The surroundings are peaceful with stunning views over the Tuscan countryside. The local towns are a delight, the nearest being Montepulciano which has loads of great restaurants and shops.
Must visits are Bagno Vignoni and do try and eat at La Porta in nearby Monticchiello.
The big plus is the owner Nico and his family live on site, and they are always there for advice and problems.
Really cannot rate Sant Antonio highly enough, just brilliant

We had high expectations of Sant’ Antonio after reading so many glowing reviews and we were not disappointed. Nico was the most wonderful host – we were warmly greeted on arrival and shown around our apartment (No. 7). Nothing was too much trouble for Nico and he was even kind enough to make dinner reservations in advance for us. We cannot praise Nico or Sant’ Antonio highly enough!

Our apartment was more spacious than it appeared in the photos, was well equipped and immaculately clean. The huge fluffy bath towels and Egyptian cotton bed linen were a treat and even better still they were all changed mid-week of our stay. Having our own private covered terrace was a bonus and the views of the countryside were breathtaking. It was so relaxing reclining on our garden chairs as our exit from Rome in our rental car earlier in the day had severely stressed both of us. This peaceful haven was just what we needed after the crowds and traffic of Rome. In fact it was absolute perfection!

There are many good restaurants to be found in Montepulciano just 5 minutes drive away or even in the other direction of Sant’ Albino where we dined at Tre Stelle on a number of occasions and found the food to be excellent and very reasonably priced.

Cheers, Renata & Ken

We stayed at an apartment in town, not on the estate. We had originally booked the 2 bedroom apartment (il corso) but Nico upgraded us to a larger 2 bedroom (le rughe). This apartment was fantastic! Spread out over 3 floors; with a designer kitchen, beautiful dining table, bathroom and laundry on the main floor; a living room (with a beautiful view), bathroom and den (extra bedroom) on the second floor; and 2 bedrooms, bathroom, and office (with another beautiful view) on the third floor.

Everything was new, clean, and beautiful. The beds were firm but very comfortable; the showers rather small but with good hot water and pressure.

The owner (Nico) was there for us; recommending places to eat; places to go; reserving dinners for us; etc. (Indeed we ate at 4 of his recommended restaurants, and each was fantastic.)

Montepulciano is a great town to stay in; plenty of excellent restaurants and interesting shops; conveniently located to visit other sites in Tuscany; and terrific scenery. For runners: it is also great -- Nico can suggest scenic trails that will stay with you for a lifetime.

In short, I cannot recommend this place highly enough. Great people; great town; great apartment.

One suggestion: plan on spending time in the apartment -- make a dinner there, rather than going out all the time. It is an apartment made for cooking and relaxing.

We hope to return soon!

We thoroughly enjoyed Sant' Antonio this past week. Located just outside of Montepulciano, it has amazing views of the Tuscan hills that stretch on and on for miles. We could see Lake Tresimeno on the horizon from our apartment, and a walk further up the property hillside we saw several of the surrounding towns. Stunning. My husband couldn't get enough of it. For a week we (plus our two boys) used this as our home base and took day trips around Tuscany. Our 2 bedroom apartment was very comfortable and included 1 bath, kitchen, dining room, and living room. The owner, Nico, was very friendly and very helpful anytime we needed information. My husband already recommended this place to two coworkers since we got back home.

This is our second time staying at this beautiful property. It was just as wonderful the second time as the first. The accommodations are beautiful, clean and so inviting. My husband says this is the most relaxing place he has ever been. The grounds are wonderful and always so well maintained. The staff is friendly and Nico is fantastic. He always makes us feel welcome, is a wealth of information and so generous with his travel knowledge. We will never consider staying anywhere else when we travel to Montepulciano. We cannot wait to return. A special thank you to Nico and his staff for making our trip so special. Ann C.

Room Tip: We stayed in the two bedroom apartment with frescos. It had a fireplace in the kitchen that was won...

I have been meaning to write this review for a while now...but i cant find the words to type that does this place justice.

I went to santantonio for the first time last september. I travelled with my boyfriend who has been going since it first opened. This was also my first trip to italy and I had a fantastic week Three of the highlights are below (there were dozens)

The view from the pool/room was amazing, looking in both direction towards monte amiata and the other way across the Val di chiana, it was so peacefull to just sit and with a glass of wine (provided to all apartments for a small charge) and look over the scenary.

The second favourite thing about santantonio is the people who work and holiday here. All the staff were very friendly, even the gardeners come by for a chat. Nico and his family make you feel like family, nothing is too much. Not speaking a word of italian was a worry for me, but this wasnt a problem as there were some other english couples staying who pointed me towards some great local sights.

the third best part for me was the tuesday Night meal where all guests staying at santantonio can attend a home cooked meal (prepared by Nico's wife Elena and the Cook Suzie) This was situated in the old stables that have been restored into a fantastic dining room (in summer its on the Terrace) This is a great way to meet the guests and share travel tips/stories about the area.

Other things that stood out for me was the location, value for money, quality of the rooms, quality of the oudoor areas and the attention to detail of every little thing

You cannot sum up what a magnifficent place this is. you simply must travel here if you are to experience the real tuscany. Im getting excited as im setting off to visit santantonio again in 4 weeks....cant wait!

I certainly wont stay anywhere else in tuscany. Tripadvisor only lets you put 5 stars...this place is off the scale!!!!

We just returned from Sant' Antonio three weeks ago. We went with three other couples. Sant' Antonio is a beautiful and relaxing property. The views form the property are fantastic. All of our rooms were beautiful and spotless. Nico, Elena and their staff were great hosts. Nico helped our group plan our trip and his recommendations were great. He helped us with restaurant reservations, tour guides, and winery tours. The property is also in a great location. We took day trips to Cortona, Florence, Assisi, and Siena. We are planning on returning and spending more time relaxing and enjoying the property. We cannot stress how beautiful Sant' Antonio is and how great the service Nico and his staff provides. Thank you very much for the detailed and most wonderful review that you have written. On behalf of the staff and my wife, we are honored that you enjoyed your stay with us at La Terrazza apartment.
I was very happy to read that towards the end of your stay, you felt part of the small historic town of Montepulciano and a "local" - we try to reflect such feelings in our properties. Grazie tanto and kind regards from Tuscany!
