“Old fashioned - in a good way”
Reviewed October 6, 2013

We were touring in Tuscany and booked this hotel through tourist information. It is not far inside the medieval city walls and has a few parking spaces outside. It was probably 'state of the art' in the 50s and is kept well decorated if a little quaint. (The basin was cracked.) There are some atmospheric public rooms - they could easily be used in something like Montalbano. There is no restaurant in the hotel, but two reasonable ones are nearby. The hotel's breakfast has a good choice. - oh and the wifi works easily and is free!

I had a very pleasant stay here a couple of years ago. The staff was very nice and accommodating. My room with a large patio was outstanding. Also, the breakfast served was superb. I hope to return one day to this very hotel.

We stayed for 2 nights and it was a lovely experience. The ladies who run hotel are extremely nice and helpful. Rooms are big and relatively clean; our balcony had stunning view. Breakfast was simple, but great cappuccino. Wifi worked everywhere and was fast. The only let down was a bed, since the mattress in the middle of bed had slight hollow. Hopefully with some years hotel will be updated and will appear as beautiful small boutique hotel.

We stayed here from the 23rd of July to the 29th of July! The rooms were stunning- with booking two twin rooms (family in both) the rooms were side by side and both with balconies which connected allowing us to go from room to room which was perfect! The views were breathtaking, the breakfasts couldn't have been better, the service was spot on, the eggs were fabulous, - a truly fantastic family heartfelt run business! Would recommend this to anyone and everyone!!!! Absolutely loved my time here in Italy! Made that little bit more special with this hotel!
Thank you and I shall see you soon!

This is a magnificent Italian palace retaining many original features especially the staircases. Despite this the rewards are the stunning views across the town and surrounding countryside. This hotel is very well placed and provides excellent service; breakfast is a real feast of all that is so good about Italian food. The rooms are large, great showers and all maintained to the highest standard. Parking is very good. The downside is the noise - the signora who was holding an emotional debate with her man at 1 am and the amorous young men who return home on their motorcycles at the same time. Italy - just visit and enjoy!!

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony.

Hmm, let me try not to repeat what everybody else has already posted: When we were shown our room at the Marzocco we found the view as stunning as the stairs that lead up to it. With the help of the friendly lady at the reception, we managed to carry our heavy luggage all the way up to the 4th floor (or was is the 3rd?). So be aware that there was definitely no elevator three centuries ago when the Marzocco was built and that none has been added ever since. I mention this point as this hotel might be not suited for guests who have problems with stairs.
Apart from that, we had an excellent stay in a hotel that comes as a welcome difference to all the chain hotels on this planet. Staff are friendly and helpful. As you might envisage to buy some wine, most companies will take your case of Vino Nobile to the hotel where it can be stored in a cool place rather that being baked in your car.
I beg to differ from a previous poster who suggested to leave the car outside of the city wall. Unless you arrive with your favorite Bentley or Hummer, the few parking spaces in front of the hotel are a safe and free option. The scary bit is just to leave the centro storico by car. Keep left after S.Augustino church, otherwise you will be circling around for ages to find the city gate.

Beautiful building and location, hotel is quirky and quaint with very friendly service typical family run Italian hotel - a world away from the main chains and all the better for it.
Our room was clean and much bigger than we needed but well equipped.
Stood up well against the other similar hotels we stayed in on this trip - except that the breakfast served here was possibly the best we had anywhere, with lovely cheeses and bread.
We also picked up rental bikes here and again the staff were very helpful and attentive with that

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Behind the Medicean column there is the Hotel Il Marzocco, the oldest in town. It was built in 1500 as a farm of the nearby convent. In 1860 it became a hotel and since the early 1900s it has been run by the same family. The hotel looks like a large house where the atmosphere of the old times is still kept. Its bedrooms open on wide lounges that, like the reading room and the sitting room, are furnished with genuine XIX century pieces. Some bedrooms have balconies or terraces with a view on the valleys, other ones have their windows over the Renaissance houses of the old town. The hotel has had important guests like actors, writers, politicians, all of whom are fond of the great view from its terraces. A free parking area is available, as well as comfortable relaxing spaces and a wide dining room where breakfast is served from a rich buffet with home-made bread and cakes, jams and pies. Among the roses of the garden, the Canada creeper climbs until the terraces and creates a pergola up to the roof, at first green in summer, than all red in September and yellow during the autumn. Red geraniums at the windows, together with the old lace curtains, add to the building a perfectly romantic touch. Wi-Fi Connection. We accept pets. Free Indoor garage for motorbikes and bicycles. ... more   less
