Agriturismo Il Casalone
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed November 21, 2012

This place is so tranquil, surrounded and nourished by all that Epicurus would have taught and sought to attain the good life, that it makes one wonder why the expression goes "living like a king in France". I can't see how this superbly located place can be topped by another. May be also especially so because of the great service provided by
Paolo and his family, who all (of which some at respectable age) put their heart in making this place one where we found ourselves feel at a new home right away; private, but shared like one does with friends. The apartments are beautifully furnished, and moreover; spik and span clean. Everything clearly taken care of whith eye for detail.
The hill top at which Il Casalone is resting, provides one of the most magnificent views over the region. And from here, we looked out over the valley with its nearby lakes. Although I had intentions to learn some Italian, it helped a lot that Paolo speaks English :) And anyway, all the additional information provided for visitors of the region (places of interest, practical services, historic information) are translated in English too.
I can only recommend this place; the price:quality ratio is the way we like it. We'll come back! Thanks again for the homelike stay: it was not just a holiday but a real stay.
Regards, Marloes

We remain speechless for the words of Miss Marloes!!! We are very happy she enjoyed this place, in particular that she has appreciated what's more important for us: the semplicity, the quiet, the cleanliness. Thanks again. Paolo.

We weren't 100% sure what we had booked but based it on the feedback....and we were certainly not disappointed. If you are looking to sample a part of Tuscan life then this is the place. Exremely quiet yet only 5 minutes from Montepulciano. Even though it was late October weather was excellent and we could relax outside where on 2 sides you can take in marvellous views of the surrounding hillsides and valleys with their olive groves and vines.

Unlike someone who complained about the breakfast we loved it. This is more self-catering in nature in that you make your own breakfast - not not like a hotel. When on holiday we love to get up when we want, eat when we want and just relax. This place suits exactly our style. And it was a nice touch for them to leave us home made honey, jams etc.

And as regards service - Mr Crociani was there to greet us and take us up to the apartments. Realising we were completely new to the region he took a lot of time to give us maps, leaflets and also suggested some tours. He clearly loves his region and this showed and rubbed off on us. He even came back later with more brochures and a flag. The tradition he has is to show a flag at the entrace to represent each and all of his customers. How nice is that!! The fact he brought the Irish tricolour ( though we are English & Scottish )was cause for a good laugh - he saw the Ireland part in our passports. We had to explain it says N. Ireland. Anyway he wasn't to be beaten and next day as we went out there was the flag of St. Andrew ( Scottish ) flying proudly.
I think that just about sums this place up. They are proud of their region and it shows ...AND they are interested in their customers ( not just their money ).

So it makes a great base for discovering this region. We will certainly be back as we still have lots to see !!

In all of our planning, we did not imagine our stay would surpass expectations. Il Casalone was truly a place to live the Tuscan dream, from the wonderful grounds, to the hospitality of having olive oil and honey produced on the property, Paolo and his family's attention to detail made the stay thoroughly enjoyable and relaxing. Il Casalone is a place where each person's ultimate perception of what they believe it will be, then becomes a reality. We felt completely comfortable being ourselves, and Paolo did everything possible to help make sure we felt at home. They have a fantastic outdoor cooking area close to the lighted swimming pool where you can make gourmet creations using organic grown ingredients from the garden. The accommodations were very clean, well appointed and met all needs. Paolo is charming, friendly and very cute! It is almost three months later, and we are still gushing about our trip. Molto Grazie, il Casalone!

Room Tip: If possible, choose a room at the end of the complex.

We stayed 2 nights at Agriturismo Il Casalone and can't say enough good things about it. The hospitality of Paolo and his family was fantastic, and our room was wonderful. It was very well appointed and we did not lack anything. It was very well organized, and you could tell that they had tried to think of everything. The provided you with a book that outlined all that you needed to know. The location is great, being very close to Montepulciano and Pirenze. And the views were sublime. We would return to this agriturismo without hesitation.

We spent 3 nights at Il Casalone last month and would return in a heartbeat. The apartment was spotless, well equipped and quite spacious. We received a warm welcome from Paolo and found him and his family very helpful. The property is in an excellent location, only 5 minutes from Montepulciano, with beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. We enjoyed visiting Montepulciano, Pienza, Montecchiello, and La Foce.

I stayed at Il Casalone in April 2010. However, I have a vivid recollection of an outstanding experienced with 7 others in my travelling group. The rooms are spacious with attention to detail. The kitchen is fully functioning and contains every appliance to create a gastronomical feast with the finest produce from the Tuscan region. Soak up the panoramic views whilst enjoying your meal with one of the Nobile wines (produced in the nearby vineyards) just heavenly! The family who operate the business are Eco friendly ensuring the sustainability and future of the environment. I can't wait to go back and share it with family members in the future.
