We stayed at La Creta for our second time to enjoy this wonderful place with its imposing view at Montepulciano:
The hosts are very friendly and obliging,
the area is very calm and well-kept,
the apartments (we know both) are spacious, very clean, well-appointed and individually arranged.
We very much enjoyed the pecorino and the olive oil produced by the family.
La Creta is the best place for recreation and our insiders' tip for individual agrotourism in southern tuscany!

We returned to Agriturismo La Creta for the second time, and to the Cugusi family homes for the third time! Cristina (eager, warm, friendly, delightful) and Salvatore's hundreds year old Tuscan farm house sits in vast fields just below the medieval walled town of Montepulciano. The view of the ancient city on the hill is breathtaking and the light that plays on the land throughout the day provides a serene and tranquil setting. Add the gentle sound of bells tinkling on the necks of the sheep (pecori) as they move around the vineyards, olive groves and fig trees and you may not want to leave. Salvatore invited us to watch the milking of the sheep and told us that the milk goes up a few hundred yards to his sisters' cheese factory where Cugusi Pecorino Cheese is made and sold in the factory shop. The fresh Pecorino is to die for and of course the aged cheeses are exquisite. The cheese and other products are also sold in Montepulciano at Salvatore's brother's shop! I am not kidding, this place is a dream come true.

We stayed for a week in Il Sambuca, the pristine one bedroom apartment with a large kitchen/living room with a marble kitchen table and a couch that can pull out to sleep two more. The full bath is modern and fully equiped complete with a birds nest that Salvatore just could not remove when he restored this room. There is a brick architectural arch in the living room, wooden shutters on all the screened windows, antique furniture, ironed bed linens. Evening and morning winds are refreshing. There is a dilemma---when you are sitting outside haviing your own home cooked dinner, do you want to watch the lights come on in Montepulciano as the moon rises, or do you want to turn around and look at the medival town of Montefollonico?

The two bedroom Room L'Olmo is very spacious, has many original arches and other architectural features. The living room and one of the bedrooms open out onto the large yard that affords the views of Montepulciano. Beatiful!

The location is perfect for day trips to Siena, Pienza, Montalcino, Montefollonico, the Etruscan center of Chiusi, the hot baths at Chianciano, Lake Tresimano and Castiglione de Laga--even to Assisi, Arezzo, etc. We rented a scooter for a few days and drove right up to the gates of the ancient cities.

As is obvious, I could go on and on---but find the treasure of La Creta for yourselves.

Room Tip: The local tourism center at the entrance to Montepulciano is excellent, provides computers for a small fee.
