“Truly great and beautifull hotel with lots of extras”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 13, 2011

Beautiful palazzo with incredible rooms. A combination of impressive and very tasteful antique decoration, huge size, very comfortable furniture, and a hip bathroom design with everything you could wish for. But what makes it really surprisingly attractive are all the complimentary extras, like free drinks in the minibar, wifi and movies. That's something a lot of so called 5 star hotels could learn from - it is something that really makes you feel welcome and be taken care of (or may be I should say 'spoiled').
The palazzo is not so expensive as you would expect and certainly worth its money! Give yourself a treat when you visit beautiful Montepulciano. Oh, and it has its own parking just around the corner. Complimentary of course.

Indeed, the building & rooms are splendid! We stayed there for 1 night in the Double Superior Alfieri room. The room was charming and furnished with sense for detail. The bathroom was very design and fantastic!
However, the view was not that great: opening the window gave you a view on... a wall. Only if you reach out and look to the left you can see the valley. Our room was situated just next to the kitchen or laundry room and near some kind of a server which made a lot of noise, also during the night.

The negative point was however the BREAKFAST!
Reading other reviews regarding the breakfast I keep wondering if we are just greedy. There is no buffet, the breakfast is set on your table. You get: 3 little mini-sandwiches, 3 little mini-croissants, some cracottes, little bowl of fruits, few slices of cheeses
/salami and a bit of jam. Even though I weigh only 52 kg, even I could never have enough with this breakfast! And yes, only 1 cup of coffee! We were quite shocked that such luxurious b&b could not offer a more decent breakfast.

It's true that the mini-bar, the internet and the movies on TV were completely free of charge (something I have never seen before in any hotel), but in the end we also do not travel there to watch movies.

The location of the hotel is good, we had no problems to find the parking - we were following the instructions given by the hotel. However, to find the hotel was a bit tricky as we were looking for the street written on the instructions. So, for those who will try to find it: for the parking follow your GPS and the instructions by the hotel and after you park your car: take the stairs up (there are only ones) when you arrive up, turn left and Palazzo Carleti is I think 4th building on the left. Do not try to find the name of the street , do not get confused that the street where you ended up when climbing up the stairs is not the correct one - as we did!
However, if you have problems finding it, call the hotel, they were very helpful.

I absolutely cannot think of a cooler hotel that we have ever stayed in! It is located one flight up (no elevator, and consider these old buildings have very high ceilings so it is not a normal height flight of stairs) in an old family palace and occupies the one floor. The key system is unusal (for us) in that to enter the building, the hotel or room, just wave the key in front of an electic eye type of instrument mounted by each door. The key is also inserted in a slot inside the room entry to enable the lights. Check in time is at 3 so that means if they are not expecting you before that, someone will be available at 3 to let you in. I'm not sure about this, but we were asked what time we would arrive, so maybe arrangements could be made to arrive earlier. The lobby is beautiful. High ceilings and a gorgeous view. The rooms have A/C, free Wi-Fi for two devices, a large flat screen Internet TV (in case you couldn't use Wi-Fi for a third device), a snazzy Italian coffee maker, free movies in at least English or Italian, a free mini-bar which includes a half bottle of wine, a beer, a variety of juices and sodas, and some snacks. We were surprised that 15 minutes of international calling were also included. We called overseas from our room.

All the rooms/suites are different so I will describe ours, the Suite Nerrazini.

First impression was awe. The ceiling was about 15 feet high and painted a la Michelangelo (well, maybe not QUITE as good!). What a way to wake up. Our view was of the side of a building but with such a beautiful room, who needed a view! We had a tiny spiral staircase leading up to a loft with a bed and a couch (or in our case, 2 beds), perfect for our two teenagers. The loft also had a flat screen TV. Back to the main room... Beautiful furnishings, gorgeous rug, exquisite decorations throughout. What looked like a long wall of panels actually opened to the mini-bar, an enormous closet, and the bathroom. The bathroom! Stay at this hotel in this suite just for this! It was beautiful, but the best part was the lighting over the tub. The website shows the tub bathed in soft pink light. What it doesn't show is that the light slowly changes colors. (it can be turned off, but we watched from the room.) Look at the website pictures, they show exactly what you will be getting with this hotel.

Breakfast was included and served entirely on white...tablecloths, china. There was fresh cut up fruit cup, a platter of meats and cheeses, rolls, breads, eggs. The typical breakfast but so much prettier and served, not a buffet.

There is free parking, but be aware you have to walk up a hill (you can use the central shallow steps or the side ramps) to the hotel. Getting your luggage into the hotel is something to think about, and there most likely is no help with this, but once there, it's paradise.

Room Tip: Read the website descriptions - all the rooms and bathrooms are different.

My wife and I stayed in the Deluxe Albany suite in April 2011. The hotel was fantastic and the owner was extremely friendly and helpful form the moment we checked in. Getting to the hotel by car was a little tricky because some of the roads in Montepulciano are very steep, but once we arrived it was well worth the effort. The room included free movies and minibar, which was a really great touch. The suite had two rooms and a very large bathroom with a huge jacuzzi tub. The balcony looked over the countryside and provided excellent views. Everything about the hotel was wonderful and we would be happy to recommend it.

Best hotel we stayed at in Italy; truly pleasant, and in the midst of it all. Great for families with babies. No need to drive to the door (driving inside the city requires that you call ahead), the private parking lot is only two minutes away. If you need to eat in as we did, there is a great pizzeria 30 meters from the entrance.
