“Great location, but left a bad taste”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 3, 2011

The house has a great setting with the view, pool and outdoor eating area giving you a truly relaxing setting, however there were a number of things that left us with a bad taste compared to a number of other villas we have rented in other areas of tuscany. This villa is not quite up to the standard of its peers. In particular :
- house was damaged from previous tenants and needed to be fixed while we were there
- no child facilities (cot, high chair) and were told we could have them if we paid to have the owner buy them and "he would give us the receipt"
- very sparse and cheaply furnished, with the interiors and kitchen furnished by ikea compared to tastefully decorated villas we have stayed in previously
- having to pay 375 Euro for "additional" power at the end of the week, even though we didn't turn on the air conditioners once. After paying thousands of Euros to rent the house we were amazed we were hit with a bill at the end to pay for additional power use. While we were shocked that we would be liable for additional power charges in the first place, we were very conscious of our power use throughout the week thinking we would fall well within our allowance. However we apparently did not and had a big surprise at the end of our visit.
- we thought we were 7 minutes from Montepulciano, but it was 20 minutes to get into the town.

It seems like they need another year or 2 to get up to the quality of its peers in Italy. Montepulciano is a great area to stay, but am sure there are better places to stay for a visit near here.

La Cipressina is a place to go to watch the beautiful countryside of Italy, You wake up to the sounds of happy birds, lovely villa. Our families joined together and had wonderful wine, food, relaxation, trips to surrounding villages, FANTASTIC weather and great hosts! My Italian is bad but Merizio was always available to help (airline lost baggage) save the day with talking to the airlines and helped make arrangements to get the bag to me (when the airlines finally found it); The scenery is the spitting image of the Tuscan post cards that show quaint rolling hills with villas occasionally. THAT is La Ciprissina! The sun was perfect, warm during the day and cool at night,! Never needed air conditioner! The pool is there for your enjoyment, or just to watch ripple! Would I go Back! IN A HEART BEAT!

Two week stay that my mother in law and parents planned for large family group that varied over a two week stay. Everything was wonderful, exactly as descibed and still yet more than we could have expected or hoped for...Everyone from grandparents, aunts, auncles, cousins and kids loved it! Many thanks to Maurizio and Jennifer who own and manage the property - we enjoyed every minute! GO! you will not be disappointed :)

La Cipressina!!
! What a wonderful place to spend two weeks. Family and friends gathered here to have a reunion. Our grandkids were here and they loved the pool. It is a large pool, cleaned everyother day and well suited to gathering to enjoy sunsets or spend the day reading or swimming. The house has been lovingly restored and is quite spacious. The bedrooms are large and the bathrooms have been well designed.
Maurizio, our host, could not have been nicer. He arranged tours of wineries, meals at local restaurants, and conducted a complimentary tour of his vineyards followed by a winetasting. He was always helpful in answering questions and assisted my sister whose bags were lost in transit. It certainly helped to have someone speak Italian to the folks at the airlines.
We had two dinners prepared at La Cipressina by Pasqulina and her husband Michael. Both meals were delicious and a good taste of Tuscany.
The only caveat is to monitor your use of electricity and gas. We learned that it is much more economical to use dish washer, washing machine in the evening when the lower rates apply. Sticker shock for electricity and gas rates in Italy should be avoided.
Will we return to La Cipressina? Yes, Maurizio and Jennifer ensure that you have a lovely holiday. The surrounding area is beautiful and it is nice to have small towns close by to visit.
We all heartily recommend a visit with these folks who live in town but make sure that you are comfortable in their home in the country!!

The house is exactly what you'd imagine it to be based on movies and TV that show typical Tuscan Villas. The owners were as helpful and as kind as could be and even prepared a delicious gnocchi dinner for our first night so we'd have something to eat even if we were too tired to go grocery shopping!

Just outside of the hill town of Montepulciano, tucked among the vineyards with commanding views in every direction, Villa La Cipressina was the perfect choice for our week in Tuscany. Maurizio and his wife, Jennifer, the owners who converted this lovely villa from a ruin, were helpful in every way. Maurizio is a trained somelier and provided a wine tasting of his own wines along with a Tuscan lunch. Their own wine and olive oil are available for purchase during your stay. The complete kitchens (one on each level) are fully equipped so cooking is easy. The hosts provide a breakfast basked that lasted us for our entire stay with coffee, tea, croissants etc. The closest grocery store is in Montepulciano so getting a few essentials on the way is a good idea so you don't have to rush out immediately. Many restaurants are just a short drive away and had much better food than we found in Rome or Florence. If you are looking for a Tuscan villa that provides an authentic experience with a touch of class, this is the place.

I just returned from a 2 week vacation of Italy and stayed at La Cipressina during my visit to Tuscany. The villa was in the best location, just a few minutes from Montepulciano in the middle of vineyards - and with a fantastic view of the countryside. We also appreciated a vineyard tour with the owner and he did everything we could to make sure we had a great vacation. Would recommend to anyone.
