What a lovely stay we had at Osteria del Borgo. We stayed for 3 nights using this as a home-base for driving around Tuscany. Our first night we had driven from Venice and were exhausted, hungry, and glad to have found the place after a treacherous drive through storms in the mountains. The owner was incredibly gracious, helping us carry our luggage inside, providing us with water and a snack, and getting our bags up 3 flights of stairs so we could unpack and get ready for dinner.

The dinner was the best we had in Italy. Wild game, rich pasta dishes, and a fabulous wine selection. The food was cooked to perfection and the service was wonderful.

The room was huge with a kitchenette, sitting area, quiet bedroom, large bathroom, and above all, a spectacular view of the countryside. We awoke to roosters crowing each morning with a postcard-like view of the sunrise.

Each morning, we were greeted by the owner and his wife with homemade pastries, local meats, and freshly made cappuccinos. Even when we got up to leave too early for breakfast, the insisted on making us a cappuccino and a plate of pastries before we left for our adventures.

I can't speak highly enough of this wonderful place. A comfortable and charming place to stay. Would have loved to stay for longer!

We stumbled upon this restaurant by accident but was amazing! We had the best Pici here! (A must get, handmade pasta- similar to speghetti but better) and not to mention the house wine was delicious! Great staff! Little pricey but worth it! We didn't sit outside but the views from their outdoor seating were gorgeous!

We stayed for one night in early March, passing through Montepulciano on the way from Orvieto to Florence. It was dark and rainy the night we arrived, and it took us ~45 min to find the Osteria, but that's because we parked and walked for a bit, concerned about being in a ZTL area. Eventually, we got good directions and realized you have to drive most of the way through town to find it. We were the only guests that night, and the owner stayed to wait for us. Rooms are amazing, set up like apartments. Great views, really clean. Sadly, the restaurant was closed the night we were there.
One caution: this is not a place for those with limited mobility...lots of stairs to climb, and parking is a quarter mile down a fairly steep slope.
Overall, one of our nicest stays in Italy.

We travelled to Montepulciano for four days of our 10 day Spring Break trip to Italy in April 2014. Francesco was incredibly helpful throughout the entire process. From the day I reserved the room through the end of our stay the entire family was overwhelmingly helpful and gracious. Francesco, his brother, Giacomo, father, Adriano and mother, Nadia, made us feel truly at home. Chiara, who works in the restaurant, always had the most endearing smile and seemed to be genuinely happy to see us each morning and in the evening when we returned from our daily adventures. The rooms are spacious and have that old-world charm. The town was a riot to explore. There are hills, though, and it was wet a couple of days we were there. If you go, make sure you wear shoes that have some grip! The food at the restaurant was outstanding! Very possibly the best we had on our tour of Italy. Adriano was very patiently waiting for us to show up for breakfast each and every morning and more than happy to share his thoughts and advice on our plans for day trips. We had an easy day's drive to Pienza - don't miss! We also went in one day to Cortona and then down to Assisi. We took a whole day to travel to Siena and spent some time there. The room was clean and the beds were very comfortable! The kids loved having their own bedrooms! The location is fabulous right on top of Montepulciano and directly on the Piazza. Our kids enjoyed seeing the locations for various films, including the Twilight series, that were filmed in the square. This is a charming, comfortable place to stay and feel like family. Don't miss the opportunity to stay in this family-operated B&B.

What can we say about the hospitality, setting and amenities at Osteria Del Borgo? Ummm a WHOLE lot! We are WAY past due for this review (stayed May 29th 2013) , but …

My wife and I went to Italy for 2 weeks for our 1 year anniversary. We wanted to pack it all in, so we went to Rome, Tuscany, Firenze, Cinque Terre, and Venice. We wish we had planned more time in Montepulciano. Not just b/c it's charming, but also for the accommodations and hospitality provided by everyone that worked at Osteria Del Borga. They treated us like long lost friends. Let me just describe my wife's reaction which was "This is how I pictured Italy!". She was right.

First off, after staying in Italian hotels for a reasonable price, you come to expect the minimal accommodations- small rooms, small bathrooms, loud noise throughout the hotels. This hotel was like an oasis from every other place we stayed. We checked in and were brought to our room- it was a huge apartment with soaring views of the Tuscan landscape. 2 floors with a downstairs full kitchen and living room. We walked upstairs and there was the master bedroom, sitting area looking over the Tuscan valley, and a HUGE bathroom. Not only was this room amazing and extremely reasonable for Italian prices, it was right in the center of downtown- with a back an incredible view of the tuscan countryside.

We met Francesco when he led us to our room. After that we went on our way to a food/wine tour of the town. Our personal gourmet food and wine tour was only around 100 euros for 2! The tour was hosted by someone different than the hotel, and was an amazing experience in itself. We toured the Montepulciano Wine Cellar, a local shop that served meat, cheese, and wine all from the area, and local aged olive oil and balsamic. Our last stop was a gratuitous meal of hand rolled Picci with more wine - all covered by our personal tour.

It started to rain so we thought we should go home. Upon passing the main entrance of our hotel/restaurant we peaked in to see what was going on. Francesco and Anchora (brothers) invited us in with open arms. We had no idea we walked in to the owners tasting wines they were testing to add to their menu. We got more than we expected with their hospitality. We felt it as a home away from home. If you want a true italian/personable experience - this is where it's at. In retrospect, we would have book several more nights with Osteria Del Borgo.

Upon departure, thunderstorms and hail met us (rare to the region), but did taint the fact that this was truly our favorite italian town - hands-down. We will go back to in a heartbeat.

If you are planning on visiting Tuscany, Osteria Del Borgo in Montepulciano is not to be missed.

Cheers and thank you to Osteria del Borgo for making this an amazing experience!

Courtney and Alex

PS: We WILL be back!

Room Tip: ask for the rooms looking over the countryside, but all rooms are good
