Fontecastello is a wonderful Tuscan farm experience. The farm house is set on the slope just below the walls of Montepulciano with a beautiful view of the valley. It is accessible by train Rome to Chuisi and then by bus to Montepulciano. The handy location is walking distance to the bus station and supermarket yet has a quiet, country tranquility. The grounds and buildings are well kept by Antonella’s hard working parents.
Our apt was spacious and comfortable. Wine and olive oil from the farm were available in our apt. The more energetic ones in our group enjoyed bicycling to different hill towns. It was also a pleasant option to just slow down and enjoy the farm and leisurely walks along the farm road, exploring the town, and a day tripping into Sienna or other hill towns.
Highlights for me were picking olives with Antonella and her extended family and making pasta. Antonella and her mother showed us how to make their traditional hand rolled Picci pasta.
Antonella speaks English and when she is not home she is available by cell phone. A phrase book is handy to help with communication with her parents, who are available and working around the house. The best part of this experience was the connection with the family and participating in everyday farm life.More
