“An absolute dream come true!”
Reviewed August 2, 2013

Anyone who has ever dreamed of having an authentic Tuscan experience- we found it at Poggio Etrusco! Pamela(a noted cookbook author) and her husband Johhny, were so welcoming and went out their way to help us arrange so many of our week's activities. The farmhouse was built in the 1600's and has been lovingly renovated to include 3 - 2 bedroom apartments. Each unit has 2 bathrooms and a kitchen with living area, The property was very clean and is absolutely charming with incredible views and there is a great pool and terrace to enjoy after a long day of touring.
Our group took advantage of a fantastic cooking class with Pamela as well as having her prepare dinner on 2 nights. Our entire group agreed these were some of the best meals we've ever eaten(even our 1 vegan!). Poggio Etrusco is also wonderful because it is located right in the heart of the region and we were within an hour and 30 minutes of any site, vineyard or city in Tuscany. This made it the perfect home base. I could go on and on but this will rank as one of my best travel experiences ever. I hope to someday return. My only caution is that travelers must expect a Tuscan Villa- not a Ritz Carleton. We were so pleased but an inexperienced traveller might not be prepared for no air conditioning in August

We could not have asked for a more beautiful stay at Agriturismo Poggio Etrusco! This amazing estate in Montepulciano was the highlight of our European vacation. One of our main goals while visiting Tuscany was not only to visit the nearby towns such as Chianti, Pienza, Pisa and Florence but solely to participate in a private family cooking class with well known cookbook author Pamela Sheldon Jones who came highly recommended to us. What a delight it was to spend an entire day learning to cook Italian hors d' oeuvres such as "Frittura di Primavera" (Battered and fried spring flowers and vegetables picked right out of Pamela's gardens); "Pici” pasta which is one of the many popular fat spaghetti's one will find on many of the local restaurant menu's and did I forget to mention the lovely "Pace da Poggio Etrusco" Olive Oil Cake that Pamela taught my husband to make for me and my 12 year old son. Simply delectable! These were just a few of the many recipes we learned that were simply delectable.

The farmhouse estate is truly on a real working farm with olive trees, vineyards, chickens, roosters, tomatoes, basils, etc... All these resources were used during our cooking class and contributed towards a truly inspirational stay. In fact, their winery produces in excess of 750+ bottles of incredible wine each year whereby you are encouraged to enjoy during your stay.

If you are interested in spending several days in Tuscany in a quiet and relaxing atmosphere and strive towards an extraordinary real world experience whereby you are welcomed and encouraged to participate in an incredible hands-on cooking class while enjoying the romance of Tuscany - this is the experience for you!

Pamela and her family were incredibly warm and welcoming and accommodated our needs whenever required. They provided guidance and recommendations as to various points-of-interest during our stay that made for incredible day trips while using the farmhouse as our home base as it is centrally located to the Tuscany experience.

In addition to Pamela's unique talents, her husband Johnny also cultivates talents as well. In fact, he is an artist of sorts whereby you will appreciate various sprinklings of his work throughout the estate. Johnny allowed us a visit to his workshop whereby he shared various projects and passions that encapsulate his spare time. We walked away purchasing some of his one-of-kind unique creations that will remind us of our incredible stay for years to come.

What's not to love about this charming farmhouse...Our stay was awesome and filled with memories and new friendships that will last forever!

Enjoy Poggio Etrusco!

Pamela and John were amazing hosts. The house is beautiful. We stayed for 2 nights in mid-June and slept in one of the apartments. The apartment had Jasmine growing on the walls outside so the whole place smelled amazing. The cooking class was great and we can't wait to try all our new dishes. The breakfast was delicious and included Pam's homemade jams. It was a quiet, beautiful stay close to many Tuscan towns. They had great recommendations from places to eat to great towns to walk around and were extremely helpful. The bed was very comfortable. I had the best sleep of my whole trip there. We can't wait to return and will stay longer next time!

Based a few miles from Montepulciano, this lovely AgroTourismo B&B is run by cooking expert Pamela Sheldon Johns and her husband, artist Johnny Johns. It's a gorgeous, quiet spot in the Tuscan countryside, Pamela runs cooking classes in her fully equipped kitchen, guests can read by the pool or wander around the vineyards and olive orchards. Pamela and Johnny provided some great excursion suggestions including the spa at Chianciano Terme and some of the less tourist-overrun hill towns nearby. I'm assured that the cooking classes were terrific; the resulting lunches certainly were.

Room Tip: You can't go wrong.

My wife and I stayed here for five nights in September 2011, and it was absolutely amazing. The apartment was spacious, charming, and equipped with everything we needed to cook some meals. The pool, gardens, olive trees offered wonderful views, which were very nice while enjoying some wine and reading a book. The location is also really nice, although we had trouble finding it, but it is nestled very close to some wonderful Tuscan cities. We really enjoyed a wine and food pairing experience at a wonderful restaurant, I believe it is called Enoteca Osteria Osticcio, in Montalcino. Pamela and Johnny we gracious hosts, engaging yet giving you as much space as you require. We also really enjoyed their friendly dogs. Almost a year and a half later, we still dream and love talking about our experience at this place. We would love to go back.

We stayed in one of the apartments for a few nights in May.
Can I just say how comfortable the bed was! It was like sleeping on a cloud! The absolute best during our time away. Pam later told me it has a reputation for being magical. It sure was. :)
The space was clean, quite, and unique. It used to be part of the old cantina ( from what I understood) so natural light was not abundant (though it rained when we were there) but there was more than enough lamps and lights to read, cook etc. There was also a lovely fireplace that those of us with fire making skills could use. I really enjoyed the olive oil products in the bathroom. The guidebook in the room was the most detailed and elaborate I have come across in all my travels! The internet worked very well.
The courtyard with flowers, pool and views of the Tuscan landscape were right outside the door. The gorgeous dogs were lovely and definitely didn't have flees! I would have let them sleep beside me!
Pam was a delightful host who made us feel right at home. She was more than available to assist us in our plans for the day and even set us on the right road-trip path to the Marche region. She also had one of the best food recommendations of our entire trip! (La Porta)
The only downfall is I wish I would have had time to take a cooking class but at least I was able to take home some of her olive oil.
Thanks for everything and sincerely hope to see you again.

Staying at Poggio Etrusco is like a home away from home. The apartments in the B&B are beautifully appointed with lovely furnishings and art by resident artist, Johnny Johns, Co-owner with his wife and gourmet cookbook author, Pamela Sheldon Johns and their daughter Alaia. Sign up for Pamela's classes to taste delicious recipes from one of her many cookbooks while sampling their homegrown organic olive oil and wines. Or use this as your homebase with so many great destinations within an hour's drive. Lay by the pool and enjoy the gardens and vistas or walk, bike, drive to nearby Montepulciano or Chiusi for a taste of history and mingle with the locals. We've visited three times and are planning another trip this Fall where our nephew and his fiancé will be getting married on sight. Can't wait!
