“Worst hotel I have ever stayed in”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 30, 2012

I didn't expect that I could come across such a bad hotel in Italy. I was told that this is a 3 star hotel, but it looked and felt more like a roadside motel...

To sum up my experience - the room was dirty (stained and worn out carpeting, smelly and poorly cleaned bathroom, dirty walls), poorly lit (the room had only one table lamp!), and desperately needed repair (handles on the closets were broken). The walls were thin and I could hear pretty clearly the conversation that people had in the other room. On top of it, the personnel was rude...

I would not recommend anyone to stay there. It might really spoil your impression from beautiful Tuscany and Italy!

BTW, beware that the same staff manages hotels Redi and Palladio across the street!

I was in Italy with a School tour in June/July and I found this hotel to be just okay. The food was great. That was the only good part. The rooms were small for four people, and there was not much storage space. Our air conditioner kept short circuiting, and the window wouldn't open. Also, the night management was a little overbearing and creepy. Also, pretty sure I saw a prostitute in the lobby. I would not stay here again.

Room Tip: If you HAVE to stay here, request a room with a balcony.

I traveled here with a group of high school students. The rooms were clean, but the beds were uncomfortable and a few of our students had trouble with the plumbing in their rooms- showers overflowing and sinks clogging. However, the food the prepared for dinner was excellent. The only reason I give this hotel a low rating besides the showers was the location. There wasn't much to do around the area and it was not that close to Florence (which is why we were there to begin with).

This hotel is managed by the same folks that manage the hotel across the street. Our room was standard budget quality with a nice, large, balcony with table and chairs. Breakfast was not anything to write home about with small assortment of breads and cereals. Yogurt included and some sliced meats and cheese. Dinner in the hotel was nothing special...make a short walk down the street for much better options. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Word of warning. Many young people in the hotel as school groups from across Europe and the states us this hotel and the late night antics can be a problem. AC went out one night and was not fixed nor were we given a different room as hotel was fully booked. Cheap wi-fi. Decent hotel for the budget minded traveler.

The rooms were a bit small and simple, but the rooftop terrace and local town made it all worth it! I went with a tour group of high school students. The student rooms had balconies and it was in a really safe little town outside of Florence. Best part about Montecatini is that the main street (just a few blocks away from the hotel) had lots of clothing shops that were opened until 11pm at night! A great place for a group of students - there wasn't too much trouble they could get into.

This is a clean and friendly hotel, inexpensive, so short on luxuries. Our room was tiny but did have air con. which was appreciated in the heat wave. Staff are helpful and friendly, especially the lady serving breakfast! Breakfast was disappointing; bread rolls, cheese and ham, no fruit or yoghurt. Rather stale cereals and warmed up, watered down milk.
The town is pretty and convenient for visiting sights including Florence, Lucca and the coast. Train travel was very cheap and reliable. There is a lot to see and do in the area, we were there 10 days and weren't short of things to do.

Called here on an overnight stop through Italy and although the town was thriving, it was a Bank Holid;ay in Italy, it is a very pretty town with many bars and restaurants. Also quite a few shops for the ladies! As I said, it was just an overnight stop so the place was only really viewed in the dark but you would certainly not struggle to get a meal or a drink. I'm sure in the daytime it would be a nice enough place to look around. We stayed at the Hotel Grand Duca Leopoldo, a hotel quite nicely situated, just a short stroll to the centre, but although it looked very nice from the outside, our room was more like a prison cell! The decor was not so good and we had a triple room in which there was certainly no room to swing a cat!! There was a very rickety wardrobe and a small table with a TV - we didn't bother - and the bathroom was only adequate. There was air conditioning in the room though but we found it quite noisy. The foold at the hotel was quite good and the staff did all they could to make it a pleasant stay.
