My partner and I stayed at this hotel for 7 nights during what we now know was 'spring break'. The hotel was great, but think twice before going to this town during this time!
Our room had a king-size bed, as requested, as well as a balcony with two chairs and a small table. I found the room pretty spacious, but missed a sofa (but that is probably just something I have got used to). The TV and internet were fine and I liked the bathroom. The room was clean and tidy and the cleaners were good. The one thing I did not like was that the room was next to the lift, which could be a bit annoying at times. The absolute worst part was, however, the noise from other guests, mainly girls and boys from French and German schools. There was a different group each night and some of them partied through the night. Some nights I hardly slept at all.
We both enjoyed the hotel breakfast, but I think we both would have preferred more types of bread, as well as warm boiled eggs (the eggs and croissants were only warm if you went down for breakfast first thing). The breakfast room was very nice and I liked the care that had gone into designing it.
The hotel was very close to restaurants and shops and not far from the supermarket Conad, which could be reached on foot, but better yet on one of the free bikes the hotel had. We favoured the restaurant/cafe/bar on the square down from the hotel, I think it was called Cibus. There were no hidden charges or bread charges there and the staff were nice. We went there once or twice a day for food.
We did not do any shopping in Montecatini and we didn't go to the spas either. We did find the town very pleasant, though, and I enjoyed taking a bike ride now and again, just up and down the one-way system, seeing where it would take me. We both enjoyed Montecatini Alto and thought the fenicular was fun.
The staff at the hotel were very nice and we really enjoyed our stay. We thought the hotel made an excellent base for travelling around Tuscany (we went to Lucca, Viareggio, and Florence on the train and to Greve in Chianti and San Gimignano in a hire car on a day trip). Car hire tip: Sixt in Monsummano Terme was around 40% cheaper than car hire places we went to in Montecatini and there are frequent buses to and from there from the main train station.
All in all, we thought the hotel was great value for money and I would recommend it to anyone.
