This hotel was on a road that was able to contain many large touring buses. This made it easy for us when we were going on tours. The breakfasts were very good and the dinners were typical Italian fare. Our room was nice and big enough for the 6 days we were there. Heat was unavailable because Italian law disallows heating after April 1. But there were not that many days when we were cold. There was free wifi but only two stations and some tour members hogged them.

We arrived with a tour in April. The weather was perfect. We had a nice room in the front of the hotel and staff was excellent. We were with a group of 58 Legendary Journey Tour. The room had enough space with a nice size shower. The small refrig was enough. They told us not to drink the water so we had to order water for dinner. We had a 5 course dinner every night but was served at 7:30PM. We did adjust. It seemed every young person was on holiday in the area so noise was a problem but the staff handled it well. We also had a talk with nextdoor visitors about noise. We did have quiet from 11PM. It is a very busy street with a school nextdoor. Alto Montecantini was Great.

Room Tip: Great balconey in front but noisy get room in back

During out stay at this hotel we experienced the following positive conditions:
*cleanliness)
*helpful front desk personnel
*convenient location in the city and the area
Unfortunately, we also experienced the following negative conditions:
*a very cramped room at the end of a corridor on the second floor
*poor quality food (our welcome meal main course was turkey roll)
*poor, slow food service (We were served last even though we had arrived early or on time. The table next to ours was a mixture of our tour couples and guests staying at the hotel. When we asked why they always got their food first, we were told that they had to take care of the clients first. Excuse me; I thought we were clients too.)
There was an attitude of annoyance displayed by the wait staff.

I have recently returned from Montecatini with National Holidays and overall the value for money was good., the seating arrangements at meal times were inadequate - long tables with eight persons to each one OK but the tables were arranged far too close together - bit like a school canteen or the old days of Butlins! I am a single traveller and had a double room although the decor was very RED! Not a very restful colour and made the room quite dark. The staff were very helpful especially the lady at reception who supplied us with directions and map of Montecatini. Montecatini is beautiful and the hotel is well located for shops and the spas and there is a little market (open every day) only a minute or two from the hotel - turn left and walk up the hill (not very steep) and the market is on the right hand side - there is a cafe where you can people watch!
Overall National Holidays are good value for money but unfortunately the drivers we had were not very informative during the four days travelling to Italy and back to UK. With a little homework and effort we could have been informed of the places we travelled through en route.
I believe they were only interested in getting from one comfort stop the other as quickly as possible so they could have a cigarette.

Part of a very large tour organized through Legendary Journeys. The young woman on the desk was very accommodating and the woman in the dining room was also very helpful. The males were very condescending and generally offered little help. The location and the rooms were good.

We were part of a large group with National Holidays. The tour itself was excellent. Comfortable coach; very good and informative drivers; and well-organised excursions. Montecatini Terme is a very nice little town for strolling around. The funicular up to Montecatini Alto is a must-do particularly for the spectacular views. It's a shame the hotel wasn't up to scratch. The decor was very bright red/orange and was rather overwhelming. This made the rooms seem very small. The shower room was good though with plenty of room, good water pressure and towels changed every day if you wanted. Breakfast was a bun-fight - that's if you could actually get a bun! There were different types of bread but unfortunately these were usually hard as if they'd been saved from dinner the previous evening. I actually prefer a continental style breakfast - you don't go to Italy for a full english fry up. The juice was awful - from a machine and watered down. The saving grace was the coffee but even that was from a machine. The meals at dinner were on the whole pretty good for mass catering and there was always a choice. However, the worst thing was the dining experience itself. The restaurant is set out like a school canteen and a squashed one at that. I understand that you may have to share tables when on holiday but usually the tables have no more than six people sharing them. It's an ordeal to have to dine at a very long table with people you're not particularly keen on. The waiters did their best but there were not enough of them and they were not well organised. I like to linger over dinner in congenial company but not when it's forced on you. I would say that most of the staff could do with attending a customer care course. Even a little smile goes a long way.
I would definitely visit Montecatini again but not this hotel. Also, I would use National holidays again but I would have to know the name of the hotel before booking. With this holiday, you don't find out the name of your hotel until one week before you leave.

I stayed here last summer, with my Boyfriend and parents. The best thing about the hotel is that it made me feel very very young. It also made my parents feel very very young. It's an aged crowd that seem to come here, which is not necassarily so bad, we only had to share the pool once is the entire four days were there, despite being the middle of summer. The oldies, shocking orange and black decor and massive pantha statues are all quite amusing. My parents room was significantly larger than ours, but it was still just ok at best. The beds were not comfortable, and were just two single beds pushed together instead of a proper double.
For a twin city stop, Montecantini Terme is brilliant, they have the baths if you don't fancy doing anything and the rail system to Pisa and Florence is quick and convienent to both. Although, I think I actually preferred Montecantini to Pisa as Pisa was horrid!
