Travelling solo as part of a group of 50 with " The Travel Department", I arrived in Montecatini on Oct 10th for a week. First impressions were marbelled floors, oriental rugs, a sweeping marble staircase, wonderful plasterwork and genuine old charm. My room at the side was small and dark as described by others but the wooden shutters can be opened with ease. A marvellous location for touring as the train station is directly across the road with direct links to Florence, Lucca and Pisa. The town has enough to explore for 1 day and the Funicular to Montrcatini Alto is a must. The staff are warm and friendly particularly Mariano who likes a mention here. The food is fine , a mixture of Italian and plain dishes for travellers with lots of potatoes and veg. for irish travellers as we all ate together in a separate dining room. A bottle of house wine is 12 euro , very reasonable for a decent hotel at dinner.. in house music on sat. night was basic but enjoyable as we had an early start. Weather is mixed in October, I had the pool to myself A marvelous week, I loved every minute.

Room Tip: Avoid the front if the fountain will keep you awake Use the safe, one of the ladies had everything...

Holiday maker from Dublin: My wife and I stayed at The grand Plaza for seven nights in October 2013. Our rooms were very clean and comfortable. The rooms overlooked the town square which was full of life and beautiful.
Staff at the hotel were just wonderful and helpful in every way. Mariano in the restaurant was highly attentive to our every need. He is a great asset to the management and a great employee. Liliana at reception was very kind in allocating us great rooms to celebrate a special occasion. Food at dinner was top quality and plentiful, with a wide variety of choice to suit all tastes.Drinks at the bar were generous portions and reasonably priced. Two small areas for improvement . The air conditioning was poor and no iron or ironing board was available. Neither spoiled our holiday in any way. if you get what we experienced you will enjoy your visit to this great old traditional hotel

Room Tip: rooms 121 & 122 were very good

We were given room 328 which was at the front of the hotel over looking the town square. The room was clean and contained everything for our two night stay. It was almost like a tiny 'suite' because you entered into a small hall, at the bottom of which was the bathroom, and an arch to the left led into the bedroom.

Entering the hotel from street level, I have to admit felt very 'up-market' and plush. Grand entrance, lovely reception area (white and yellow walls) and if I can find a way to upload my photos you could see for yourself!

Our room was somewhat old fashioned, with a high ceiling and rather heavy, dark wood furniture but still, that didn't bother me at all.

The only thing I didn't care for was the shutters on the windows. When I figured out how to open the windows, I felt the shutters were very heavy and I admit to being very worried that they might fall off the outside wall to the ground and hit someone! The shower in the bathroom was basically just a shower tray with a curtain but in fact, it was fine.

The food was okay, and I did feel that the food on the second night was better than that offered on the first night. Also we were relocated to the slightly larger dining area.

From what I could tell, there were at least four different eating areas. As a coach party we were at the least impresive one at the back! It was still okay though.

One of our friends found a screw (from one of the lided serving containers) in her soup. Luckily she did not bite down on it! The response from the hotel? Nothing, just confirmation that it must have fallen out from a serving unit.

The location of this hotel is very good. Near the station, and whilst we were there there was some exhibition outside to do with the International Cycling event that was taking place in Italy. There was various display tables as well as a small stage which admitedly pumped out conversations and music until late at night, in a language I didn't understand. It did stop around 11 - 11.30pm so in fact it was not all that disruptive.

I would have no hesitation in going back to this hotel if I had the opportunity.

Room Tip: Centrally located. Very grand, old fashioned public areas,

Stayed here in September 2013 for ten days. Lovely hotel with public rooms in the 'grand style' My single room was less stylish but of a reasonable size, very clean and certainly adequate for my needs. situated in the main square it is very convenient for local amenities and only minutes from the station from which there are frequent trains to Florence, Lucca, Viareggio and Pisa( need to change at Lucca).Staff are all excellent, conscientious and caring, always ready to oblige and to top it all they make the best tea I have ever tasted in Italy. Lovely and HOT. Food is good too with plenty of choice An excellent choice as a base to see Tuscany

Room Tip: Front facing rooms let you watch the world go by

The hotel is located in the main square close to Montecatini Centro station - about a three minute walk and well positioned for walking pretty much anywhere in Montecatini. Close to the thermal baths and about ten minutes walk from the funicular which takes you to Montecatini Alto - a worthwhile trip. The station provides easy access to Florence, Viareggio, Lucca, Pisa (with a train change) at reassonable cost. The hotel itself is in the grand style of the late 19th century - huge public rooms - staircase to make an entrance on, chandeliers etc., but with a nice modern outdoor pool and seating area. Only ate breakfast - which was good, but others reported lunch and dinner to be very good. Dinner was 40 euros each for four courses. The front desk service was excellent - courteous and helpful. The room was a little tired but comfortable and clean. Nice small bar with a courtyard seating area beside it. Although in the centre of town it was quiet at night.

Stayed at this hotel for a week in August and had a wonderful time. Location is perfect, central yet not noisy. Bedroom was spotlessly clean and the food was excellent, good quality, well cooked and presented with plenty of choice. The staff were all great, nothing was too much trouble for them and they all went out of their way to be friendly and helpful.

This hotel has the ideal location in an area restricted of auto traffic and near a lovely fountain and square with benches, upscale stores and the best Pasticcheri we've found across the street. Reasonably priced parking passes are available at the helpful desk. Our room had a terrace overlooking the square with tables. The baths are large by European standards and breakfast buffets include the usual meats, croissants and tortes. The town has a nightly stroll and the benches are filled with people and dogs enjoying gelato. The funicular to Monticatini Alto nearby and a much better choice than driving the hairpin, narrow streets to this beautiful hilltop town of exclusive restaurants and breathtaking sites.
