The Spa was amazing although you had to pay for it. The staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was quite ordinary, but the kitchen staff were amazing. The rooms did remind me of a Bordello and very small. I paid the same price in other parts of Italy for a much better hotel. If the rooms were improved it would be a much better hotel.

Room tip: Ask for a larger room with a balcony if possible and not on the 5th Floor which is near the kitchen.

Just had a most peculiar experience here.
We were walking along the street, looked up and saw what looked like a restaurant so we went in, took the lift to the top to check out the menu.
As soon as we entered we got the distinct impression that things were not as they seemed and this was confirmed when the rather burly security guard approached us to escort us down in the lift and out of the building!
Telling us non residents were not welcome in the restaurant. I've never heard of any hotel restaurant turning away custom unless they are fully booked and this certainly wasn't the case. Very odd!

The hotel was a beautiful classic hotel with a lovely almost Cuban style. The rooms are spacious and the breakfast was delicious and bountiful. The service was friendly and helpful. The bar and restaurant were great as well. Do not miss the Spa experiences in the hotel with the many pools and amenities -very relaxing. This hotel in Montecatini was a great base to visit other parts of Tuscany and is centrally located. Montecatini itself, is a charming and beautiful spa destination and small city/town. The Hotel Columbia and Montecatini Terme were both lovely destinations in Tuscany. I look forward to my next stay at the Hotel Columbia.

Room tip: The 4th floor was perfect and quiet.

Montecatini Terme is a delightful spa town and I highly recommend Hotel Columbia as THE place in which to stay. Reasons being:

Staff: Beyond professional and friendly. Each and every staff member from housekeeping through to restaurant, bar and reception was very polite, welcoming, and willing to provide any help so as to make us feel more than comfortable.

Room: Excellent. Due to unavailability for 1 of the 6 nights, we had to move rooms. No problem. Room 412 is the best. 407 faces the street but has a wonderful view & really the street noise was slight. Do not however book 402.

Spa: Beautiful! Clean and relaxing with a variety of different pools, sauna & steam room, foot baths, showers and also a salt room (upstairs). Plus a relaxation lounge area. Not to be missed.

Breakfast: A huge selection! Delicious.

The hotel is centrally located and provides undercover parking.

I am hard to please, so when I suggest staying there I am certain you will have a very enjoyable time.

This was my second holiday staying at the Columbia, and although this time around our room was quite small, and the grey and red décor was not to our particular taste, and we more or less had to live out of our suitcases due to very little drawers to put things in and not much hanging space in what appears to be a huge wardrobe. The room was very clean and comfortable despite this fact and good air conditioning which was so necessary as our hottest temperature when we went out in the afternoon was 40 degrees. We really love Montecatini and this hotel is placed perfectly to wander around the town and then come back and sit outside and have a beer and watch the world pass you by. We were on a Harry Shaw holiday and again it was first class. The meals were not too bad, not the best I have had but not the worst either, and breakfast was pretty good. We found all the staff to be very pleasant and sociable and it was such an enjoyable stay we have already booked again for next year, I am hoping that next time I get a room with a bath, as I really cannot cope with showers.
