We stayed in a small suite on the first floor of the hotel overlooking the gardens. It was like a step back in time with the marble floored corridors, painted furniture, an old fashioned bath you could swim in ( but with a modern shower). There was air conditioning, but it wasn't needed on this trip. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, and they obviously take a great pride in the hotel. The breakfast offered the usual sort of buffet selection and the staff ensured that everything was topped up promptly.
The location in the town was ideal, as there were excellent restaurants in easy walking distance, and it was also close to the train station, so convenient for exploring further afield.
The only downside was the occasional noise from some bars on the far side of the gardens, so we would probably advise choosing a room at the front of the hotel if you are a light sleeper.More
