Before anything, I should say that the owner would deserve 6 stars out of 5. Not just for being friendly, but for helping us tremendously when our rental car had a flat tire. He and a employee basically did everything to repair it, basically at no cost even, while me and my family could enjoy the swimming pool. Extraordinary. Something similar happened with the wifi, which was obviously not functioning (at all!). He was generous in compensating costs that I made to get an extra Vodafone mobile wifi and installed (after 7 days or so) a wifi repeater in our apartment.
why then only 3 stars? Well we didn't find the apartment comfortable. There was no air conditioning. We knew that but what we didn't know was that in summer it simply becomes too hot. We all lost lots of sleep because of it, and the extra fan did not help. So check when you book. Also, the bathroom floor was always wet because of poor construction of the shower, which was also the probable cause of a nasty smell (floor under the bathroom must be rotten because of all the leaking). When going to the toilet, you are always with your feet in the excess shower water.
Also, things are and look old en worn down. A kitchen tile came off when a door slammed, a piece a shutter fell down because of the wind. Some drawers were hard to open. The quality of the extra bed was poor. Outside the swimming pool looks old too. It is clean, it is nice, the views are fantastic but you cannot help getting a feeling that everything needs a renovation. The feeling gets enforced by the view on one side of the apartment, where you look at a worn down area of greenhouses.
Last but not least, we were surprised there was quite a bit a traffic noise, especially in the weekends, which caused us to keep the doors shut in the night.
Some great plusses are the amazing views on the sea and eolian islands, the garden which leads to the sea and Milazzo itself which is much nicer than the guides say. And of course, there's the owner, who is truly intending to make your stay the best he can.
