“Great hotel near Venice”
Reviewed September 16, 2013

In August 7 of us (2 grandparents, 2 parents and their 3 children) stayed for 3 nights at the Cris Hotel in Venice Mestre. It was quiet, clean, great air-conditioning, and the breakfasts were outstanding! Best of all, Martina and Georgia spoke excellent English and were most helpful in finding perfect restaurants and as well as meeting all our navigation needs. Located just off a through street, the hotel was very convenient to the train and bus stations, which take you to Venice in about 20 min. We parked free and had free wifi in our rooms.

Room Tip: We had 2 rooms but the hotel staff can assist you via email for the perfect room for your situation...

We stayed for 4 nights at Hotel Cris and found it to be a perfect base for exploring Venice. We took the coach from Trevisso airport which cost 10 euro (18 euro return) and from Mestre station where it dropped us off it was a five minute walk to the hotel. The hotel was spotlessly clean, the room we had was a good size, well equipped (with air conditioning) and the bed was very comfortable. the one thing we would have really liked would have been somewhere comfortable to sit after our exhausting days in Venice - we did find ourselves fighting over the one available chair in our room! Breakfast was very good and all the staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. The bus to Venice stopped just round the corner and very frequent - we never waited longer than 10 minutes - but also very busy, be prepared to spend the journey with your head in someone else's armpit - but it is quick! The train would probably be a better option but we had bought the ticket for bus and vaporetto. The bus also runs late - we had a night at the opera and returned after midnight (the bus was still busy then!). the hotel looked after our luggage on the last day which was a bonus as was the free wifi. All in all highly recommended if you want to avoid the high cost of hotels in Venice.

Absolutely great! Did our research and were well aware that Mestre is good and much cheaper stay than Venice hotels.
The staff, particularly the girl that worked there as receptionist/supervisor was amazing- friendly, helpful and super nice. She suggested some places to have dinner in the town, told all about the transit options to Venice and even let us leave our car in the miniature parking lot by the hotel after checking out so we could go to Venice and not worry about the luggage. Truly, saved us much trouble! Walk to the train station is 5min, train is super cheap and quick- 15min and you're in Venice.
Hotel is clean and neat, typical 3* place, positively surprised by the excellent breakfast buffet and fresh made to order coffee.
If you're not too peckish and simply need a place to crash, especially travelling on a budget, this is a great option!

Hotel cris exceeded our expectations in many ways. Usually you get what you pay for but this was exceptionally good value. As other reviews have mentioned the walls are a little thin, but that's being picky. Staff very very friendly and helpful, polite and always smiling. Breakfast was typically contitntal, but fresh & unlimited servings. Coffee was above average and I would especially recommend the espresso! WIFI in rooms was very good and free of charge, but the one thing that struck. E was the cleanliness... Never stayed at a cleaner accommodation.

LOCATION

OK this was a little daunting for me and my wife, as usually we stay in a resort etc & certainly never braved public transport abroad without pre-arranged transfers etc... But this was surprisingly easy. We walked straight out of macro Paulo airport and found bus stop number 2. A lady was waiting with a ticket machine, spoke good English. It cost us €6 each for a sigle ticket to meastre train station on a fairly busy coach. The drive was about 20-25 mins. We literally crossed the road and took the second right walked straight down and took third left. This took us directly to hotel cris. Ignore the sign on the bus stop - (it sends you down the wrong road) - take the turning after. This is a ten min walk max from where you are dropped.

GOING INTO VENICE

This was a complete doodle. I would recommend purchasing a travel pass from the hotel reception. This gave us unlimited travel on the buses to and from Venice and on the zaperetto boats in and around Venice. Turn right out of the hotel, then right at the end of the road, and walk for literally 30 seconds and the bus stop is there (conveniently next to a supermarket) where sun cream and water was so so much cheaper than anywhere else. The number 2 bus took us directly to Venice main bus hub and from there the whole island is your oyster!!! It doesn't matter which boat you gt on on which path you walk it's just beautiful & scenic wherever you go. We didn't even have a plan we just got on any boat and let it take us to the various locations and even stayed on most until they terminated. Another boat is on,y minutes away. We enjoyed going to the outer islands the most in particular libo.

GONDERLER

No getting away from this you are going to have to pay 80€ min. You can haggle slightly on the time you get though... We managed to get and hour and ten for this amount! Enjoy.

Jake

Although it seems small and very simple at first sight, the hotel is excellent. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The staff is very welcoming, which is not easy to find in Italy. Breakfast is OK, satisfactory. The internet access was free and very good, above expectations. The only downside is that it is outside of Venice and we had to buy expensive tickets that included both the bus to Venice and the vaporetto. The bus service was terrible, we waited more than one hour, it was incredibly hot and the only time that the bus passed during this interval, it was completely full. This was very disappointing, and even though is not the hotel's fault, it is worth considering if you aim to visit Venice.

Extremely comfortable and nice stay. After staying in B&B in Rome , hotel cris was a pleasant surprise for us. Very helpful and polite staffs, wonderful breakfast, proximity to station and good connectivity to Venice made our stay memorable. We would recommend our friends to stay here !!
Pros:
- clean room, toilet, bed
- helpful staff. Guided us on how to reach Venice easily and boat bus numbers to visit different places in Venice
- convenient location , proximity to Mestre station . 5 - 7 min walk
- amazing breakfast. They even prepared omelette on our special request
- Good connectivity to Venice. Bus number 2 every 10 mins and it takes 15mins to reach P.Le.Roma. The bus available till midnight
- the locality is very calm and peaceful. Near by phone centre is available to make international calls at cheap rate
Cons:
- the direction on the via piave is wrongly mentioned which leads you to a parallel lane. For first timers , this can be confusing. Please correct the board.

Please Note : If you want to exclusively enjoy Venetian ambiance from your hotel, then try for some hotel near st. Marcos.

This hotel is crisp and clean and a lot of care is taken to keep it that way. Having arrived from Milan with its traffic noise, we hoped for a nice quiet hotel. The location is on a quiet street and thus external noise was not a problem. However, we had one of a pair of adjacent upstairs rooms and the soundproofing between these rooms was non-existent. As travellers who prefer to have a packed day and then turn in reasonably early, this hotel was not acceptable to us. On the first night we heard every bit of the adventures of an amorous young couple in the adjacent room and on subsequent nights we had conversational, TV and miscellaneous room noises (including bathroom!) from a couple who stayed out late then watched TV until the small hours. As seasoned travellers, we have never encountered soundproofing as bad as this. Aside from this, the breakfast was quite a limited selection and there was no kettle or fridge in the room. The location is good being only a 5min walk to the bus stop to get into Venice and 10mins from the railway station. However, the soundproofing issue was a killer for us. We did report this but only got a little sympathy and no action, although in all other respects, both members of staff on reception were helpful, polite and courteous.

Room Tip: Don't get room 252 (or adjacent room 256)!!!!!!
