“Great hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 15, 2013

Although outside the main town of Venice this hotel was exceptional value for money. It is modern and clean and does great food. There is a bus stop outside the hotel that takes you to the heart of the city in 15 minutes.

We had 2 days to visit Venice and chose to stay off the island because of the crowds and high costs. The Hilton at Mestre is excellent value if you book ahead. The desk staff are the most friendly and helpful that we encountered in Italy. The hotel has a great map and guide for the Venice visitor. Catch the bus to Venice from out front of the hotel for only 1.30 Euro each way and the hotel have the tickets for you. Also the Grand Canal ferry tickets. So convenient. Our visit to Venice was the best experience we could have had by staying at the Hilton and the great staff assistance. Fantastic breakfast included. Highly recommended.

Unbelievable hotel for Venice area-Unless you pay a fortune, 400 Euros or more, you get the crappiest, dirtiest hotels in the planet - This hotel is about 20 minutes from the center of Venice
(Bus #5 and 19 from Piazza Roma located next to the train station). It is newly renovated and beautiful. Wonderful buffet breakfast. They offer a shuttle service to the airport for a little more than the bus.

We stayed here one night pre cruise in October, 2013. Really loved the place because it was clean, quiet and front desk staff were so wonderful. They arranged a shuttle for us to the ship that left at 10:30 am and it was great service. We have stayed in many hotels in Europe, but this is the very best one. It is reasonably priced as well. The breakfast was included with our room and it was very good. We had dinner in the restaurant, but can't say it was all that great. The pizza looked really good so should have tried it. We would stay here again and hope we can someday.

Room Tip: Get a room that has a living room and bedroom and you will be so happy.

The room was lovely- hard wood floor, king size bed, clean well equipped bathroom.
On arrival the staff were friendly, helpful and polite.
It's an easy place to get to, I got the bus- pressed the stop button, didn't get to the door in time because I couldn't grab my suitcase, had to get off at the next stop and walk along a dual carriage way with practically no pavement to get back to the hotel- it's a quick journey and the hotel comes into view so it's easy to know when to request your stop...just be quick getting off the bus!
My first night was wonderful, I got room service and watched a movie (great selection of channels!), my second night was a disaster- at midnight the fire alarm went off and it didn't stop until well after 2am! We had to evacuate the hotel, the fire brigade didn't arrive until an hour or so after the alarm went off- no one told us anything, it was freezing and the hotel staff were no where to be found. In the morning there was no hot water for a shower- it was ridiculous! The cause of the fire alarm being set off was apparently due to someone smoking in their room but nearly 3 hours of constant noise and no communication- it was very disappointing.
That being said it was a lovely hotel, I would stay again but without the alarm! It is very easy to get to Venice (again by bus) where I enjoyed museums, St Marks Square and shopping.

Room Tip: I would ask for a room looking out at the mountains which are far off in the distance but beautiful!

I booked this hotel as it was wheelchair accessible and it met my needs. The bedroom had a double bed but there was not much room to turn the chair (the room did not accommodate a 180 degree turn). The bathroom had a raised seat and a vertical grab rail on the left and a devon grab rail on the right. The water in the shower tended to overflow and there was one grabrail in the shower.
The hotel is new and is very suitable for a short stay. I would mention that the restaurant is very expensive as is the bar for the purchase of spirits (a glass of wine is more reasonably priced). The outdoor pool looked very clean and had a ladder but no hoist.
All of the staff we met were most helpful and friendly and I would stay in this hotel again for a short stay

The Hotel is not actually in Venice but in Mestre, only a short journey away by bus. If you're looking for a comfortable cheaper alternative then this is ideal, if it was in Venice it would be much more expensive. The bus to Venice and Mestre (which is also worth a visit) was just outside the hotel although I didnt find it very regular. Many websites list the hotel as being "10 mins away" - that may be the case if you've been lucky enough to time the bus right, if it doesnt stop and your final destination is the bus station in Venice, I'd say you should give yourself 30-40mins to get there. The hotel is also on a busy dual carriage way and the journey from the hotel to the strip of road to Venice was through some Indrustrial areas, it wouldnt be a nice or easy walk. Also, tranport wise, there didnt seem to be many cabs/taxi's about apart from dedicated taxi ranks. There were none based at the hotel and I twice stood for a bus for 40 mins and didnt see one. Although the hotel could call you one or you could use their courtesy bus for 14 euros (which twice a day would still work out much cheaper than staying in Venice).

The Garden Inn is very modern and spotlessly clean and it would be hard to criticise the look and feel of it. The receptionists were also very pleasant and professional. The rooms were ultra modern, with hardwood flooring with a desk and office chair ideal for working. The only comment about the room and I'm not sure if all are the same but my bath was in a recess which you needed very long arms to turn the taps on or to perch on the top to do it. If you're immobile in any way it would be best to check what your room has. I'm not sure why a modern purpose build hotel has a bath like this - it looks like they planned to have a shower but their builders bought baths instead.

Breakfast and dinner in the hotel was ok. There seems to be lots of comments about the restaurant next door, which the receptionist also recommended to me rather than the one in the hotel. It's called Primavera and it's a hotel - read the reviews, they're all correct! I wouldnt recommend it, although it appears to be the only alternative to the hotel that you can walk to. It was like a dated roadside cafe, the staff were grumpy and the food was very average. If you don't want to travel, I'd stick with the hotel restuartant.

Annoying things were being unable to control the aircon from the room, I didnt understand their explanation for this. What guests are meant to do is to call reception for them to alter it remotely - which they said they were happy to do and were there 24 hours a day to do. Also there was no mini bar in the room and the alternative given for that was the bar in the restaurant - but at 10Euros for one drink it didnt seem discounted for the effort to go downstairs and get it.

If you're happy with the extra effort to get into Venice by public transport or the additional cost and planning for taxi's then I'd recommend staying here.

Room Tip: Busy road to the front.
