simple but lovely small hotel in mestre / venice. rooms are modern and very clean (believe me, i'm pretty pick about that...), beds are comfy, breakfast is great for italian standards (fresh and yummy buns, bread, the best croissants ever, eggs, jams, honey, several kinds of sausage, cheese, a small variety of musli, coffee, milk, juice, water, tea, ...) and everything gets filled up amazingly quickly by a very busy but friendly lady. the hotel is located next to a main street but our room was quiet. the bus station is a 5min walk away and the surrounding seems to be a safe place. the staff at the hotel speaks english quite well and is friendly and most helpful at any time of the day and night. it seems like they really care about their custumers' stay and they help you make the best of it. so did they let me leave my car there for another day (parking spaces are enough and included) although i had checked out already or helped us with the public transport system and gave tips and hints of how to go where in the best way and time. internet is free as well in this hotel and worked fine!
thanks for making our stay in venice a great time, we will come back if we are ever around again!
only small point of criticism: there have always been a few mosquitos in our room, so bring a fly flap ;)

Room Tip: no worries..

We had an excellent stay in this hotel in May 2013. It was well priced and overlooked the canal with a little balcony. Tnot hotel was fairly quiet at the time but we were warmly greeted by Justin who told us where to get a bus from and how much things would cost. Breakfast was included and it had a good selection of cold cuts, pastries, fruit and cereals. The floor in our room was a beautiful deep red marble and so were other floors in the hotel. Nice modern ensuite. The only issue we ever had was with a taxi driver who picked us up from the train station, overshot our stop after being told and then tried to charge us for the extra mileage.....he was told how much we would pay him after that. Easy trip on the bus into Venice.....nice Indian restaurant next-door and a take away liquor shop around the corner.....all in all it was good value for Venice locale.

Its no oil painting, but theres parking, a friendly welcome at the front desk, serviceable, clean rooms, bus to the main attraction around the corner, and basic Italian breakfast of the pre-packaged variety that fills the gap. The immediate surroundings are a bit grim, and of course, there is no romance in such a location so close to the heart of romance but it is a practical choice to dump the car and visit Venice as a day tripper effectively.

I first made a call to the hotel to enquire about booking it for my family. The staff Francesco was very helpful.

I was also pleasantly surprised that we could get a cheaper rate having travelled to Venice via train. All I had to do was produce my train ticket to confirm my travel arrangement.

The room was great. Air conditioned, pretty nice view off the balcony facing the river across the street, clean bathroom. All in all, a very pleasant stay indeed.

Special thanks to the staff at reception. Mr Francesco, Mr Luigi, Mr Justin and Mr Cristiano. All extremely helpful in explaining the travel arrangements and deals available. Plus, being able to buy the daily bus ticket at the reception was a major help. As well as their friendly guidance on how to get to places of interest (tourist spots, airport, nearest ATM, bus stop, etc).

Their willingness to accomodate extra wifi-enabled machines was greatly appreciated.

I would just request to make the breakfast set up to hold a little more variety.
Thank you Hotel San Carlo for making my family's stay at Venice a pleasant one.

Very nice hotel, clean, well located and staff always kind and available in peculiar Justin who was always providing very good trip advises. We hope you enjoyed the strawberries!!! We recommend this hôtel To visit Venice and the surroundings, all the commodities are very close. For those who come with a car, a parking is available and monitored by camera 24h/24h. We Will definitely come back in this hôtel, we felt as if we were at home ;-)
