We recently stayed at the BW Bologna on our last night in Venice. It is much easier to get to the airport from Mestre (especially for early morning flights) and this hotel is just steps from the train station. It is a very modern hotel (although it's very old!) and everything has been recently renovated (the rooms look like an Ikea showroom!). The hotel will help you purchase train and bus passes, not to mention that they reserved us a taxi for a 4:30am pickup for the airport (15 minutes from the hotel, 35E).
The bathroom was large, modern and clean. The bedroom area was a good size (for a European hotel) and the flat panel TV has English speaking stations! There was a frig, safe, and plenty of storage. Also, there was free WiFi that worked great in the room as well as complimentary laptops in the lobby to use if you didn't have your own.
When checking out, there was a 4.80E city tax, but other than that, no surprises.
The city of Mestre was lovely to walk around and there are restaurants and grocery stores very close by. Try the "Soul Kitchen" restaurant right across the street for a very nice dinner.
I would definitely recommend this hotel to those who have early morning plane or train plans and it is also an easy base for those going over to the island. It only cost the two of us 2.40E (total) for us to take the train from Venice to Mestre (because all trains stop in Mestre).

Room Tip: Easy access from the train station.

Very nice hotel. Front desk very helpful, even called for our driver to the port when he was late. Breakfast buffet was very good. Had dinner in the casual restaurant one night. Calamari was tasty! Nice little family restaurant just down the street. This hotel is just so convenient. Easy to and from the airport. You can drive to it with your luggage unlike the hotels in Venice. The train station is just across the street, minutes from the front door.We also used this hotel to explore the Veneto region by hopping on the train to Ravenna, Vicenza and Verona.

Room Tip: in the back away from the street is best. we were concerned about the noise before we stayed there...

My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Bologna in October, 2011. The hotel appears to have been recently remodeled and was quite comfortable. The location across the street from the train station is an advantage for those wishing to visit Venice without staying on the island. The train is a mere 10 minutes ride!

As most of the reviews on T.A. point out, this hotel is very convenient for the airport shuttle bus, the trains and the service buses.Tickets for the service buses, have to be obtained from tobacconists, but for the train and shuttle bus, they are available from the hotel.
My wife and I stayed in a ' Look Double ' room. These are the most recently renovated and refurbished rooms. ' Wooden ' floors, and large shower room. Shower cubicle is large, with big shower head and hand held shower option. Wash basin is large enough almost for a bath! The plug did not work, even after informing reception, but even if it had, would have taken a long time to fill, and used gallons of water. Overall, rooms are good, clean, although a little basic. No drawers, and not much wardrobe hanging space, but as this hotel will be used for normally 1-3 nights, it should not pose a problem if you are travelling light. Tea and coffee making facilities are a bonus.
Breakfasts are ok, typical of european hotels. Plenty of choice, but nothing that has the' wow ' factor. Staff are very helpful and pleasant. We had dinner one evening in the ' Bistro ' and this was excellent. There is an offer of two courses and water for 17.50 euros, which is very good, as plenty of food arrives on your plate. I appreciate, wine is a personal thing, but if you like a fruity, smooth red, they serve an excellent ' La Grein ', which I think is from Northern Italy, and is related to Pinot Noir and Shiraz. Not extortionately priced either. Daniel who serves behind the bar and in the Bistro, is brilliant. His english is excellent, and no doubt his italian is quite good, even though he is not Italian.Very helpful and pleasant in all our dealings with him. Nothing was too much trouble.
Another person worthy of a mention, is Barbara, in reception. Admittedly, she checked us in, but every time we saw her, she remembered our names, and sorted out a minor problem we had with the hotel. She is very efficient, and a very nice lady. Again, she was always happy to help us with anything. Both these employees, are a credit to Best Western.
Although we did not use it, free internet access is available, either with a laptop. or using the keyboards available in the reception area.
We found the staff, to be very helpful, in all areas of the hotel.
The only criticism we could really make, is that the toilets in the reception area, which also have to serve the bar, bistro and restaurants, are too small. Only one toilet each for the ladies and the men.
I have indicated a poor sleep quality, for the simple reason, that we both found the beds too warm, let alone the bedroom. The air conditioning did not seem to be working, and admittedly, we did not bring this to the attention of the hotel. Instead, we had the shower room window open, but this did not solve the problem. It may be the waterproof covering of the mattress, was causing the additional heat.
Even allowing for this, we would both make a point, of returning to this hotel, for our next visit to Venice.

Room Tip: Obviously, this is a very central hotel. Although opposite the railway station, to be honest, the tr...

Even better than last year.
Runner-friendly, they've brought breakfast forward on race day.
Straight across the road from the buses to the Start/shuttle bus to Expo.
Straight across the road from train to Venice Santa Lucia...5 mins.
Train/airport bus tickets available at Reception.
Great in-house bistro, open all hours, and bar, free wifi etc and lovely baths... for post-race recovery and reporting.
Fantastic staff.

We stayed at Bologna during our Honey moon trip for 2 nights. It was very convenient for visiting Venice, since hotel has parking lot and it costs 10eur per day so you don't have to think about that and the train station is in front of the Hotel so it takes 10mins to get to the Venice.
Room was huge with great bed and very big bathroom with shower and bath tub.
Food in the restaurant was very delicious ad i can recommend a chocolate cake :)
Service was very helpful and friendly!
