“Good architecture but a little bit overaged”
Reviewed August 27, 2012

We stayed for a longer weekend. The hotel has 4 stars but is a little bit overaged. The sink has a lot of cracks and also the safe was sticky.
There are ropes around the hotel, because it seems to be dangerous getting to close under the hotels roof. Also access to the bar from harbor side is not possible, because of limitations by warning ropes.
The fountain in front of the hotel is out of work now for more then a year.
Generally people are very friendly, only in bar it is strange that you have to serve the drinks yourself because no one ot the bar men wants to go out.
The hotel is in Mestre. For going to Venice you have to walk for about 10 min to bus line 4 or 4L and go for 4 stations to Venice. You are allowed to take this pass if you have a pass for the Vaporetto (water bus in Venice)

Others have said it here...Building B is NOT the one you want!

We wanted a nice, 3-day romantic break in a 4 star within reach of Venice. After looking on the website, we thought we had found it at the NH Laguna Palace, and reserved a 'laguna view' room. We arrived at the main entrance only to be told we were 'in the other building' and had to check in there. We drove around the block only to be confronted by a bus-load of tourists checking in (with the associated mayhem). After about 20 minutes, we finally checked in. Then we found out the difference...

Building A seems to have all the requirements for a seriously good and nice 4-star, trendy Hotel. It was well-appointed and always active. Air crews on overnights use this building (we saw several come and go during our stay) and it was obvious that THIS was the 'serious hotel' bit. The staff were very nice and the facilities were good.

Building B was used for the tour groups (in one day, mass confusion on the desk for 2 hours, occasionally noisy neighbours, and then out the next) and those (like us) who wanted a laguna (boat docks) view when building A was fully booked for those rooms.

The problem with building B was that the rooms had been hard sed by the tour groups and there was minimal staff. There was no room service (in spite of having a number for it on the phone), and not even a book for hotel information. In fact, other than the number sticker on the phone, there was nothing in the room telling you anything about the hotel or area...including what to do in case of an emergency!

What WAS in the room? Nine hairs...long...all different colours...on the bed (3), decoration pillow (2) and bathroom floor (4).

Idon't remember there being a pool or a fitnes centre.
On the plus side:

The breakfast in EITHER building was reasonable (Building B stopped serving PROMPTLY at 0900...as that was when most tour groups left for Venice...but breakfast continued in Building A until 1030 or so).

The location for sightseeing was terrific in that it was a short (10-minute) shuttle ride to Venice. If you don't want to pay the hotel for the shuttle van (I think it was 25 Euros for 2-way service), you can walk about half a mile and take a train for about 2 Euros.

Not far from the hotel (about 200-300 meters) were 3 or four good restaurants (one--BeFed--is super and will be the subject of another review), but the area around the hotel is generally a bit quiet and appears to be mostly small offices...limited shopping nearby and not much in the way of anything interesting.

BOTTOM LINE: Yes, I would probably stay here again if I wanted to see Venice BUT I WOULD DEFINITELY BOOK BUILDING A!!!

Room Tip: Book Building A, Laguna side if possible.

The rooms need serious improvements and some thorough cleaning. Breakfast in building B was very OK, even though the coffee was supplied by a coffee machine (by far not the Italian coffee I am used to).
We used the shuttle service to reach Venice for which you have to pay 5 EUR/ person - I'd say a pretty good price.

I could not have been more disappointed in this hotel. We have stayed in several NH Hotel's and have enjoyed them and have been our first choice when traveling in Europe. This experience may change our minds. Our family of 5 was traveling and we booked 3 rooms. The 3 days started out badly when we arrived because of incorrect information about getting to Venice from the hotel. We were told by an NH employee in Bologna who supposedly called the hotel to find out about transportation to Venice. This employee told us that it was 15 euro per person to get to Venice via water taxi. This seemed reasonable to us so we decided to book this hotel as the prices in Venice were much higher. Imagine our surprise when we arrived at the Laguna Palace and were told that a water taxi to Venice would be 180 euro plus tip, each way! To pay that for 3 days we could have paid a higher hotel rate and stayed in Venice. We were very distraught when we felt as though we were stuck in the middle of nowhere. One of the bellmen saw how upset we were and gave us information about how to take a bus across the water, the person at the front desk had little sympathy for our plight, and interestingly enough the phone call with our enquiry from the other hotel was at 800am that morning and it was 930am when we arrived, so we felt maybe she could have asked if anyone knew of such a phone call. We were prepaid so it didn't really seem to matter to them. As we assumed our rooms were not ready so our luggage was stored with the help of above said bellman. We took off to figure out how to get to Venice.

We arrived back at the hotel at about 800pm to check in and were told that our reservations were in the other building which was a one minute walk. I would have thought we would have been told this when they stored our bags so we didn't have to drag them to the other building after a long hot day in Venice. So off we went to the other building and went into a small lobby that was jam packed with a tour bus that was checking in. It took a bit of time for us to get checked in as they seemed a bit overwhelmed. When we finally got to our rooms we were so disappointed in the quality of the rooms. They were stark, nothing at all of the walls, there was a big table in our room that seemed like it was put there for storage. The beds were so hard and the pillows were so flat, uncomfortable was not a strong enough word. The sheets were made of some kind of material that was scratchy, this combined with the lack of air conditioning did not help the situation. We were so exhausted we tried to make the best of it. Trying to get something to eat was another problem, finally we were directed to a great pizza place a short walk from the hotel.

Next morning we almost missed breakfast because there was no clock in the room. Several of the outlets in the room did not work properly so it made getting ready for the day difficult. When we got down to the breakfast room, my son stepped out for a moment and they would not let him back in because it was past 900. He explained that we were still in there and they would not let him in, not very friendly.

Upon returning to the hotel the second evening after walking from the bus in a rain storm, complete with thunder and lightning, we asked if there was any way to get any ice for water in our room. The front desk said that we would have to go to the other building and get some from the bar. Clearly she knew that it was pouring outside and offered no other option in the name of customer service. Once in our room my son called to see about room service and we were told there was no room service in that building. Funny, didn't see on the website that certain amenities were only offered in certain buildings. This truly threw me over the edge with this hotel and told my husband that I will be writing a letter to NH Hotels.

Next morning my husband and son went for an early breakfast and decided to go to the other building. They stopped at the front desk to express our distress about this hotel. My husband was told that if you book your room using an online travel site, you are put in the "other building", the one with no amenities. Once again, not explained on the website, and if they did would anyone stay here. The front desk person also said that all of the rooms are the same in both buildings. We found that hard to believe based on website photos and our that we have attached to our review. We are not naive enough to believe the website photos but this was crazy.

Overall we would not be returning to this hotel and will consider very strongly whether we will try another NH Hotel. The staff was apathetic at best and seemed not to be very happy with their jobs. Maybe a result of local management. My son nicknamed the the hotel - as a hostel which is certainly what if seemed like.

I work for a major US air line and we travel several times a year to Europe and will not take the risk of another unpleasant stay.

PS... When trying to make a comment on the NH website, after sending the message several times I kept getting an error saying that the website was being updated. Hmmm maybe they are not really interested in customer comments.

large bedroom, good mattresses, nice bathroom, great view on the private little harbor, water and gift upon arrival, silence, excellent and diversified breakfast with the best scrambled eggs and bacon and fresh fruit juices in Italy, proximity of a biomarket (just crossing the street) and other restaurants, convenient parking, internet available in building A bedrooms, freeway and railway station in vicinity, proximity of the airport, excellent price deal with booking.com even in august

impossibility to handle properly the too numerous light switches, so finally we could not get the AC as we had been obliged to switch off all electricity to be able to sleep withit any light on....
parking too expensive and not the price as advertised (€12 and not €10)
a feeling of emptiness as this hotel seems more to be dedicated to large groups or convention than to normal travellers
The shower was clogged and the hairdryer as broken but we told it n our departure to the staff

This hotel is not suited to holiday makers ,as it has no transport nearby and is located in what looks like an industrial area.No views,The hotel is in two parts divided by a small marina and if you are unlucky enough to be in the wrong part look forward to a 200 metre walk to the bar or restaurant,no tea or coffee making facilitys,so to bad if you wake early and want a cuppa.there are no shops nearby.

This is a modern hotel, and it looks very nice overlooking the lagoon. Rooms are nice and modern too, kept clean.
We traveled with a group; upon arrival we were told that rooms were not ready yet and we had to wait. So we waited, finally the rooms were made up. They were fairly nice.
We decided not to take part in any of the group activities, but enjoy Venice by ourselves. We were told we could have breakfast until 10:00, so next day we went around 9:00. Filled up our plates (good selection) and sat down -- only to be told, in a fairly rude manner, that this was not the group hall and we had to move. A polite staff would have told us to please use the other room the next days as we had already sat down, but not here. Next day we went down at 9:15, only to find out that the group room had closed -- group feeding time was apparently until 9:00. As we were told we could have breakfast until 10:00, we asked to have what we had paid for, but were rudely refused. Had some breakfast at a cafe on our way to the bus station.
Next day we finally solved the Riddle of the Breakfast and managed to go to the right room at the right time.
I was not so much put out with the weird times and rooms (hotels often separate groups) but with the lack of information and total rudeness on behalf of the staff. Made you feel like an army recruit or a prison inmate rather than a hotel guest.
One highlight was that, when checking out, we were asked for the Venice city tax, and for our experience. My wife gave the receptionist a piece of her mind, upon which the receptionist said that we was truly sorry and that all he could do was refund us the city tax as a courtesy. Now that was a polite hotel employee, why couldn't his colleagues be more like him will remain a complete mystery to us!
Of course our negative experiences with the hotel were more than offset with the visit to the Serenissima and with the carnival. We will visit again, but not that hotel!
