“Great value for the money”
Reviewed May 13, 2010

My wife and I stayed at the Punta Campanella Resort and Spa from April 30 - May 7, 2010. The hotel was chosen by a young British couple as a site for their marriage. Over 100 family and friends came from the UK to Italy for the occasion. Many of us stayed at the hotel. The wedding was held on Sunday, May 2, on the roof of the hotel. The scenery, the weather and the bride were all gorgeous. It was like a scene from the movie Mama Mia.
Our room was small by North American standards (we are from Canada). However, it was very comfortable. The beds were excellent and so was the cleaning staff. One of the persons at the desk spoke excellent English and all the staff were friendly and helpful. We ate all our breakfasts and the occasional lunch and dinner at the hotel restaurant and were very satisfied with the quality.
The wedding party returned to the UK on May 3 but we remained at the hotel until May 7.
The location of the hotel (Marina del Cantone) is a small bay on the Amalfi coast 60 min by public bus from Sorrento. At this time of year, there were very few tourists during the week. There are several good restaurants within 2-5 min walk of the hotel (including a 2-star Michelin). We spent 3 days touring Pompei, Capri and Positano respectively . This was not as convenient as it would have been from Sorrento but we enjoyed the quiet of our little bay. From Sorrento we took the CircumVesuvius train to Pompei (20 min), the ferry to Capri and the bus to Positano.
We had a great time!

This hotel did everything to make me not want me to come again. Firstly the room was very noisy because of dodgy air conditioning that you can't control. Secondly, the room was dirty and had not been cleaned properly. Thirdly, even though we knew there were other rooms available they refused to move us. Fourthly, they charge for everything even using the pool; fifthly, the breakfast is not good (especially the coffee which is instant from a machine), sixthly, the staff are very unhelpful and have little interest in customer service.

If you want a nice, relaxing holiday do not stay here!

The actual location of the hotel is great - right on the beautiful beach, very peaceful and pretty.

The actual hotel, however, was v disappointing. Wouldn't call it a "resort and spa" since we were highly discouraged from using the swimming pool/spa, which by the way costs extra and was locked up, not in use. The room was very small, smelt funny, was right on the hotel's ait conditioning unit and thus very noisy. The bathroom was not cleaned properly on our arrival and the previous guests' soap etc was still in the bathroom. The service was very poor, it constantly felt that we were just being fobbed off and totally ignored - even after complaining about the room a number of times. The reception staff were also very unhelpful when asking for information about travel to Naples - they had absolutely no information and could not / would not even supply us with a telephone number so that we could get the information ourselves. Definitely wouldn't call it a 4star hotel at all, and would definitely not recommend paying 4 star prices for this hotel. In fact, we were charged exactly the same for a tiny room with no room to walk and a view of the air con unit, as a larger room with a view of the sea. I appreciate that mistakes happen etc but this hotel has a lot to learn about customer service.

(A small detail - at breakfast, they serve coffee out of a machine that tastes like coffee from a service station - not what you expect in an Italian hotel).

The Punta Campanella is located in an excellent area for those who want to relax and have a quiet, romantic time. The staff are friendly and all, HOWEVER a few flaws disappointed us.
Our room was at the back and we decided to change to another one as ours was stinking (I guess smokers had been there). We paid for the difference and got a beautiful room with a perfect view of the sea.
When asking for information on the SPA, the receptionist informed us 35 euros per couple and during check out, we were charged 70 euros!!! They shoud have charged less than 35, as one sauna was not working.
The equipment of the fitness center was outside and damaged by the rain. Very poor.
I think it should improve its services and then be called a Resort & SPA.
It was a good stay but I would definitely try somewhere else if I came to Amalfi again.

We arrived at 1am and was tired and hungry and was looked after fantastically by the night reception staff. When he heard it was my birthday he brought us champagne and platefuls of delicous antipasti.

All the hotel staff without exception are very friendly, kind, helpful and very polite. Nothing was a problem for them to sort out. They gave great advice on places of interest, restaurants, transport etc. The owner of the hotel was most welcoming and helpful, you could not tell she owned this majestic establishment.

The hotel is very clean and well kept. It is beautiful, grand and in a perfect panoramic setting. The area Marina de Cantone is beautiful and picturesque and is perfect for a relaxing holiday. There is an excellent hourly, cheap (1.10 euros) bus service to Sorrento and surrounding villages. Lots of good restaurants and good beaches.

We will definitely recommend this hotel to our friends and family and will definitley be visiting again in the near future. WE are very travelled people and this area and hotel rates in our top 5.

Our family arrived to stay the night before we moved into our villa at the end of the beach. Everything was very nice but the AC was a problem but the front desk was nice about the problem and tried to help solve the problem.

Our villa was the nicest villa in the area and we rented it for a month! Great scuba diving, and we chartered a yacht and enjoyed the cruise.

A dream vacation. Great food and wonderful memories! BELLA! :-)

Absolutely a joke when it comes to this type of lodging. Staff was very unfriendly; furthermore, they (the staff) had the ability to manipulate the air-conditioning and did so on numerous occasions. The receptionist it was the sensor on the door that turns it off; however, this was not the case because complaining magically caused the temperature to come down a bit. You don’t even have the ability to set the temperature at the set point you want. Don’t eat dinner at the hotel because it is a rip off. 15.00 euros for fish the size of a minnow and don’t forget to read the menu’s fine print on the 4th page 7.00/ounce processing fee. This fee is for the waiter to take the bone out of the fish! I found most of the dining in Italy to have these hidden fees associated to eating out. Expect the following when eating out in Italy: Small portions, high prices, and hidden fees. Note: Neither one of us is close to being fat or overweigh. If you’re driving expect an extra 20.00 euro/night parking fee. The spa is another joke. No hot tube and you guessed it: another fee to use the sauna and cold pool. Altogether a big disappointment
