“Cheap option for exploring Venice”
Reviewed November 26, 2012

We stayed as part of a tour so not exactly sure how much it cost however I imagine the tour company gets a good deal. First double bed of the tour in Europe but it was a very small room. Hard to get fresh air and air con didn't work, if we opened the windows the Mosquitos swarmed in. Good size bathroom, clean. Breakfast was insanely basic but okay. Took the bus into Venice, easy but squishy and I was paranoid about pick pockets on the crowded bus! Would probably want to pay more and stay within Venice next time to truly appreciate the atmosphere. Good that there was a room safe. Supermarket down the road.

If you arrive Mestre by train, it is very easy to get to hotel. When you get off train, you will see stair from platform going to a tunnel. You have to use stair to go down a tunnel in order to exit the train station. There is sign in tunnel for Marghera in one direction and Mestre for opposite direction. Follow the Marghera direction. When exiting the tunnel you will see a side street on your left hand side, follow the street and you will see hotel Mondial. From tunnel exit to hotel is about 2 minute walk.
You can also take 2nd street on your left when exiting tunnel.

To go to Venice, take no. 6 bus which stops right outside the hotel on your left side when exiting hotel. You can buy bus ticket at a variety store which is around the corner on your left side when exiting hotel. Bus fare is 1.30 Euro. When returning from Venice, take no. 6 bus, get off at 4th stop. Returning bus stops on the street behind the hotel, these are 1-way streets. You can also take train to Venice, train ticket costs same as bus ticket, it comes every 10 minutes. There is only stairs to go down and up the tunnel, if you heavy luggage, bus is a better choice.

The hotel is clean and modern. Breakfast consists of pastry, cold cut, yogurt, cereal, orange color sugar water, coffee. There was only one issue during check out. I ask for a invoice, the girl was too lazy to search for it, she made up some stories to make me go away. She said she gave it to me the day before, then she said I can get it from Expedia which is BS.

Ask for room facing back or sides. We had a road facing 1st floor room, we could hear every car and motorcycle drove by. I could hear people chatting at front entrance.

I would give this hotel 5-stars if the receiptionist was not too lazy to find my invoice.

Booked this hotel on Hotwire and got a great price. Average hotel that has a bed, a bathroom and free 30 mins of wifi/day. Not super far from Venice either, Bus #60 (the stop is just outside of the hotel) took us directly to the waterbus station taking about 10-15mins of travel time. Had no issues with staff unlike other reviewers. Breakfast was mediocre, mostly carbs and some deli meat. No fruit and had a coffee machine.

The minute I walked in, I felt unwelcome. We were not greeted with a hello, or anything of that nature, but we were immediately told "It's before 3 but whatever" and that was from the manager! I assumed that "whatever" meant he would check us in when the other receptionist asked for our confirmation and passports. When he didn't hand me a key, I was confused, but he told us we'd have to wait until after 3. He did not offer to store our luggage or anything (which you should do if you are so rigid about check-in time), so our options were go around Venice with all of our luggage or wait in the lobby. Luckily it was 2:20 so we sat down on a couch a few feet away from another couple, who had apparently been waiting there for several hours for the same reason. I checked my reservation and it said check-in time was 2:30pm. We showed the desk man, and he accused us of creating false papers (despite the fact that the other couple in the lobby had this same "false" check-in time). We told him he needs to abide by the contract we all agreed to and he said that the false check-in time was OUR problem, not his. He refused to even call anyone to find out if a room was ready. When we asked for a manager, he said we could not see one, because it was "not needed". He told us we were "mental," and that if needed we could "take it outside." He was visibly shaking from yelling and told us, in Italian, to "Eat S**t!"

Somehow, after 20 min of arguing, a room magically appeared and he "graciously" let us check in 15 minutes early. The room was clean, but the blankets were like burlap, the room was dim, the AC barely worked, and I had to stand on the bed to operate the very high positioned TV. The "free" wifi was only good for 90 minutes and one device. There was an emergency exit outside our room, and there were stairs right outside our bathroom window. They didn't bother to frost the whole window, so you could actually stand on the stairs and look directly into the shower! The one and only good thing about this place is its proximity to the train station, but please find one of the other dozens of hotels that are even closer, though perhaps a bit more expensive.

Hotel seemed nice at first when i arrived, but then i discovered about the 'hidden' aspects:

+ room cleaned every day with clean towels.

- a/c not appropriate. Rooms very hot. Air coming from a/c seems not healthy (smells weird).
- worst breakfast i have ever had. Just the same very untasty corn flakes, bread, ham and yoghurt with fatt croissants every morning. I don't think its very healthy what they offer. I think this breakfast is the cheapeast they could find from a low class supermarket. No fruit, real orange juice, food with cereals, or anything. I ended up buying fruit, my own cornflakes, water and bread each morning (theres a supermarket 'ali p' 10mins walk near by, go the the roundabout, take first right... Straight on)
- Worst machine coffee, machine juice, machine water, machine tea i have ever had. Horrible taste. Every guest i spoke to was complaining about it. I can't believe they dare to offer that.
- no real free wifi: just 1,5 hours for free each day and very slow connection.
- i had an ant nest IN my room. I once woke up at night and they (about 50 ants) were crawling all over my stuff. Horrible. Staff was unconcerned about it.
- very noisy hotel. You can hear every door opening or closing on your floor. Also lot of noisy guests leaving at 7:00am due to bus coaches. Not good isolated. Take earplugs.
- there was also building construction going on in the morning when i was staying here.
- still a good 45min travel to real Venice city centre (bus and boat). Very annoying.

I stayed here for the longest 12 days ever. The staff in this hotel was friendly, but thats about it. I stayed in 10 euro hostels which were a lot better than this. This hotel is not good at all for the price you pay.
Next time i come to Venice i will stay in the real Venice. Also Mestre itself has absolutely nothing to offer.

The hotel isn't a terribly long way from the heart of Venice, you can catch a local bus there cheaply and quickly. But it certainly isn't near anything else of interest.

We arrived at 7pm as part of a tour and couldn't get into our room until 8:30pm which is terrible seeing as checkout is at 10am. When we asked for a late checkout to compensate us for the time we missed in our room we were told 'No' and had to fight with them to hold our luggage for us for free the next morning (it usually costs 1 euro per person).

The food isn't great in the restaurant either but again, not much around so if you have to eat it you won't be terribly upset.

Our room was on a high floor and it was very nice and modern with an okay sized bathroom. The shower, however, does not drain so you need to stop your shower every 5 minutes and let the water drain down then start again.

The wifi is absolutely terrible so do not bother paying the ridiculous price for it.

Honestly, the only saving grace for this place is that the room was modern and quite nice...
