“Magical and Enchanting”
Reviewed October 27, 2009

Well, what can I say….We had our wedding with Slow Dreams at The Santavenere on 1st September 2009. After a year of careful planning and lots of apprehension we simply had THE best time. The hotel is one of those that ‘you only know about, if you know about!’ Set back in a secluded part of beautiful Maratea, white gates for an entrance and the most peaceful vibe as you travel down into the grounds. We kept the venue a bit of a secret from our guests as we didn’t want to over-do it. In the days leading up the wedding we’d go there for various meetings and each time we’d just be blown away by the pure simplicity and beauty of the location. Yes, the owners is often by the side of the pool on his phone but we never saw him being rude – quite the opposite, he was very calm, friendly and professional. We own a large hotel and we were more than happy with the service and attitude of the ownership, I even felt the huge to give him a big kiss when we left! Special praise must go to the hotel manager, he really seemed to put his heart and soul into our big day. In addition, the restaurant staff and bar staff on the day seemed genuinely happy for us and keen to do everything they could to make the day amazing. They were also very relaxed about what time the party ended and I will never forget our firework show over the sea and dancing under the stars! In a nutshell, we had the best wedding we could have imagined and it wouldn’t have happened if we hadn’t stumbled across The Santavenere. In many ways I want Maratea to stay a hidden gem, we don’t want the charm and natural beauty of the area to ever be ruin – but at the same time, if you’re thinking of having your wedding in Maratea at The Santavenere – fear not. Slow Dream, The Santavenere and the Town Hall will seamlessly ensure you day is as magical as ours and will welcome everyone inside.

We had our wedding reception here at the end of September and stayed for a week. The hotel is in the most amazing location, spectacular views with beautifully kept gardens. Walking distance to the port, supermarket, some restaurants and the beach at Fiumicello. We stayed in a suite with a sea view which also had a view of the hill with the holy redeemer. The first room we were in was large but in spots a little shabby; bathroom small with peeling decor and some mould on the ceiling and also in the main room. It had a lovely old sophisticated style. The air conditioning in the main room wasn't working very well and we asked several times for someone to fix it on the second day of asking we were moved to another room. Our toddler also had a fever and the temperatures were still very high so we had a hard time keeping her cool. The air conditioning in the second room wasn't much better but the room was a good deal nicer with a much better bathroom with just as nice a view and a baby without a fever. Breakfast was very good eggs, omelettes etc. were to order and very nice. The pool was lovely and very quiet, most of the time we were the only people there. Staff were very at tentative, some a little stuffy but the majority were very friendly. We found drinks at the pool very expensive; €6 for a coke. We ordered food for our toddler one evening to the room and it could only be served after 7pm. The wedding was amazing dinner was served in the main hotel dining room with the party at Il Carrubo afterwards; the weather was too windy to eat outdoors. The food was delicious, service fantastic and the setting of Il Carrubo is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen. At the time we stayed there was an actual Leonardo Da Vinci self portrait on display which added to the whole romance of the place. The hotel is amazing and although over priced in some areas and room for improvement in others is definitely a treat so a splurge for a special occasion is definitely worth it. Bring your insect repellent with all the lush gardens we were eaten alive!

We got married here in September 09, what an amazing day. Food was great, staff were attentive and friendly. Great time had by all. The rooms were big but slightly over priced for what you got, but if it is for a special occasion you don't mind too much. All in all though it was definatly worth it for the views and the service. Pool is immaculate as is the hotel itself.

We will definatley be back for our 1st anniversary!!

We went there for a wedding and we were really surprised to find such amazing place,by the seaside. It was a dream which it turned into a nightmare.
Staff is hardly friendly above all when the family owner they are around, apparently they are more important than customers live in and definitely which they pay a lot of money
to be threated badly.
Food is good enough if you think we never had fresh fish but frozen, and this a fact not just a feeling,we heard someone which he was organizing the wedding meal talking about it so they could save money...we thought it was the horror movie night....
By the swimmingpool you can easily notice the wonderful landscape caleed FAMILY OWNERS...They are lying there all day long doing nothing but pretending and shouting at the whole staff, which they really do not care about customers.
The hotel is a masterpiece but really they need to change the whole useless management and aboveall their attitude if they want to keep running the place.
Better if they go and work for a Circus. At the end they spoiled our holiday.

We got married here just under 3 weeks ago and found the venue stunning! We only stayed here for one night but we were well looked after. The hotel is set in peaceful gardens with views of the sea in one direction and the mountains in the other. We were totally blown away with it. The gardens and grounds are well kept and the hotel immaculate from what we saw of it. The wedding breakfast was wonderful in fact most of our guests said it was the best food they have ever had at a function! We had breakfast there the next morning which was also very nice! The pool area looked lovely set in the gardens and they have new wicker furniture there to relax and enjoy a drink on. We have been to Maratea twice now and love it more each time. The whole area is so unspoilt and we'd be happy coming back every year! We will certainly be coming back to the Santavenere for a long weekend some time soon. If you are looking for a relaxing break with stunning views and history then you have picked the right place!

Beautiful hotel but the hotels catering staff are more concerned in looking after the owners who live there rather then guests. The service was appalling in the restaurant. At breakfast you wait 25 mins for just a coffee and you would be lucky if your toast ever turned up. When we did manage to get service by the pool we found that the drinks were very expensive and were also put on the wrong rooms. I would hate to stay there when they are busy as this was a quiet time for them. The wedding we attended was perfect, they obviously get staff in especially for the day - its a pity that the hotel staff were not as attentive as the wedding staff. The hotel is meant to be 5 star and certainly does not have 5 star service. Shame it could be lovely as the setting is wonderful its just bad management.

Quite a bit expensive because of the conversion to euro for USA visitors but the hotel is in a fantastic location and I see why everyone wants to get married there. The entire area in Maratea is sensational and just a one hour ride along the coast rode will make you belive there is no more beautiful place in all of Italy. The food in the restaurants (casual attire) is escellent and among some of the freshest and best tastes in all of Italy and we speak from 25 years of experience.
We only ate at the hotel once and it was OK however we had more fun eating out with the Italian tourists in the area.
Denise at this hotel is a phenomenal hostess and takes care of all little complaints and details. She really cares.
It is quiet at night but this area and hotel rates real high. I hope it stays this way without thousands of tourists..Great port nearby
