“As it is in heaven”
Reviewed May 18, 2013

What a surprise. For the lovers of slow food, mother earth, mama making their own food in the kitchen ... it cannot be better! You taste the love, the soul of the food. Food as it is meant to be enjoyed! Warm, friendly, personal atmosphere, 3 minutes drive from the famous sculpture Íl Rendentore'. In the past there was a need to book 10 days ahead, the restaurant is mentioned in so many books. Nowadays it's much more quite, mama get's older, but she hasn't forgotten how to create heaven on earth with the food passing through her hands. Strongly recommended!

“Amazing food and service”
Reviewed March 24, 2013

We had the pleasure of discovering this gem of a restaurant in the small town of Massa di Maratea. We were there during wild mushroom season and had a feast of fungi. We went back 3 times to be able to sample more of their choices and each time it was wonderful. They not only offered great food, but spoke excellent English and were so very accommodating. The restaurant is cozy and really feels off the beaten path. We are really love great unpretentious food and this was the real deal.

“Thanks Momma!!!!”
Reviewed February 18, 2013

Spent a week in Maratea and this was by far the best food we found. Not the cheapest, but the best. Momma taught my wife and others how they prepare their traditional pasta..The food was outstanding and the family atmosphere very much appreciated. We felt very well taken care of and cared for during our meal. This local eatery is a bit off the beaten path of downtown Maratea, but it was well worth the search and short drive. If you visit Maratea, you will not due your trip justice until you visit this local flavor. Enjoy!!!!!!! We Did!!!

Friends recommended this restaurant so we visited on the last evening of our holiday in Italy. What a wonderful experience! We had the best meal of our 2 week holiday. Warm and friendly service and a great atmosphere in a family setting. The owner Antonio made excellent recommendations - the fresh mushroom salad, the porcini mushroom pasta, the lamb, everything cooked to perfection with the freshest of ingredients. The housewine was equally good. Do not miss out on an experience to remember whenever you are in this region. Excellent!!

“Delicious food, charismatic owner”
Reviewed October 18, 2012

Having read ravishing reviews about Giardino di Epicuro on tripadvisor, we decided to give it a try and never regretted it for a minute. The restaurant quickly became our favourite place in the area, to which we returned four times. It is family run and has a unique homey atmosphere where you are made feel truly cherished.
On our first visit we were given a menu, however, the owner was quick to recommend some freshly made dishes not on the menu. After a bad experience in the old town of Maratea where a waiter wanted to charge us 50 Euro for a bottle of wine instead of 15 as initially told (not listed in the menu, this wine was recommended by the waiter, who quoted a price of 15 Euro (repeating "one-five" several times)), we were a bit wary of ordering off the menu. But when the bill arrived, prices were exactly the same as told by the owner.
The food is typical of the region and cooked from fresh seasonal produce, which makes it so delicious. At that time it was mushroom season, when porcini and cantarelli were in abundance, so we could not miss a chance to try various types of pasta with these mushrooms. That was beyond description... The only thought of that pasta still makes my mouth water. We also had succulent steaks of an enormous size served with home-grown tomatoes of an equally big size, and fish soup a-la bouillabaisse served in a bowl that occupied almost half of our table. Everything we ate there was fabulous and I am struggling to pick a highlight of the menu.
A definite highlight of the restaurant in terms of atmosphere is the owner himself – a charismatic Italian man promising to give his guests the freshest and the best and delivering on this.
