“Perfect Hotel for a perfect Wedding”
Reviewed September 5, 2013

I would first of all like to thank everybody at Casa Barca for making our stay as easy and as welcoming as possible. All of the staff where really helpful and friendly and couldnt do enough for us.

The hotel is beautifully presented, very quiet and in a great location, 5 minutes walk from Malcesine town centre.
It is very modern but also has the personal touch from the staff. We stayed in the Superiore room which was huge and ideal for the preparations for our wedding. Normally, we are happy with a standard room as we dont spend much time there but as this was a special occasion we decided to splash out. It was very spacious and luxurious.
The pool was really clean but cold and the views of the mountains and lake are spectacular.

I would recommend anyone to go to Malcesine its simply stunning.I can see why the Wellness Hotel Casa Barca is rated the best in Malcesine on tripadvisor cos it looks quality the service is amazing and nothing like anything ive come across before. Its a family run hotel and Claudio his family and staff work very hard to make your stay special.
This hotel has everything you could want including gym, sauna, jacuzzi, pool which are free and massage service that you have to pay for but we got this as a free gift from the hotel. The hotel will also sort out transfers for you if you don't have any.
There are a few small negatives to the hotel, its not right on the lake like some of the others but you do have amazing views of the lake from the hotel roof top sunbathing area and your balcony. The other downside is that it's not cheap to stay here and it doesn't have a restaurant.Breakfast was decent enough but there wasn't enough choice for me.
Despite not being on the lake the hotel is in a decent location about 5 to 10 mins walk from Malcesine centre.Malcesine is amazing it has a lovely port where most of the action is and you can get boats from here to around the lake.
Malcesine also has a castle that you can walk round and people get married here all the time.It also has a cable car that goes up the mountain and back. Its well worth doing this as the views at the top are fantastic and there is a restaurant up there as well as animals eg horses, donkeys.
The best thing in my opinion about Malcesine is of course the food. Its well known Italy is fantastic for food and it definitely lived up to expectations, tasty pizzas tasta pasta dishes and steaks. Also ice cream is very popular here as there are quite alot of places selling it and its lovely.

Malcesine is not a party place and not for drunken thugs, its more sophisticated. They do have live music now and again in the port area which is nice for a bit of entertainment.

The bottom line is that if you want a very nice hotel with amazing service and you love nature and gorgeous scenery then a stay here is for you.

This was my 5th visit to Malcesine and my 5th different hotel. My daughter and myself enjoyed a 4 night break at Casa Barca in late April/early May. We arrived in pouring rain, but our private transfer from airport to Hotel was seamless and worth 120euro's return, all arranged by the Hotel,
We received a warm welcome on arrival, and even though we arrived prior to formal check in time we were shown to our exclusive room, well worth the extra money for the front of hotel with lake view.Rooms are well appointed, spotless, elegant and understated, as is the whole of this 26 bedroomed establishment. We were in room no 9 on the first floor, with a large balcony including 2 sun loungers, and table and chairs, the rooms have large wall mounted flat screen tv and a fridge in which to keep your own food and drinks which is a nice touch, as this hotel is b and b with just light snacks etc.Breakfast is a rather grand affair, fantastic choice fruits pastries breads meats cheeses plus bacon eggs sausages, coffee to die for even though it was a machine, food is constantly replenished and staff appear to 'glide' about unobtrusivly clearing tables etc. You are given a table corrosponding with your room number and that is yours for the duration of your stay.Breakfast is a pretty relaxed affair (only for the guests I imagine!!) headed up by the ever present Claudio (owner) who seems to permanently have a cloth in his hand, cleaning and polishing the food area, No, I don't believe you claudio, that you sit with the remote control at home!! The standards at Casa Barca are extremely high both inside and outside, with pool area and gardens pristine.I did not use the wellness and gym but my daughter did and reported they were modern ultra smart and immaculate. The location of the hotel is quiet, away from the centre up a slight hill, could be a problem if you have mobility issues, but my daughter is disabled and managed the hill albeit a little slow. The front of house staff here are wonderfully helpful and happy to answer any of your queries, particularly Anna And Sina, who must have thought I was a pain with all my emails, but they are a credit to the Casa Barca. Does the Hotel deserve its number 1 trip advisor rating? without a doubt!! Would we return? In a heartbeat!! We have already tried to return this year but unfortunately there was no availability for our chosen date. Hopefully see you all in 2014.

Room Tip: book an exclusive room on the 2nd floor as the lake views will be better

I have just returned from this hotel and have to say that it is everything that the other reviews say. It is beautifully fitted out and very clean. The staff are all friendly and very willing to help with anything. It is owned by a family that work tirelessly, but are never short of time to spend with you. The breakfast is very high quality. It consists of good quality cold meats and cheeses, an array of fresh fruits, hot scrambled eggs and sausages etc. I would highly recommend that you try this hotel if you are visiting this area.
The only very slight down side to this is that the walk back from the town is almost all uphill (not steep). For most people this really wouldn't be a problem, but if, like myself, you have a problem with walking it can be quite challenging.

Room Tip: All rooms are well appointed though some are larger than others. Smaller rooms are not a problem at...

Arrival and location:
The Casa Barca is not difficult to find. It's some 200 m up the Via Panoramica that goes off the main road along the East shores of the Lago di Garda and through Malcesine.
Any Satnav should find it with no hassles.
Walking distance to the town centre with the marina and ferry piers is approximately 10 min downhill (which means the way back is quite a bit uphill...)
Walking distance to where you can swim in the lake is quite long. It's north of the castle and probably takes some 20-25 min.

Check in:
Friendly, personal, efficient. The owner Claudio himself walked us to the room and explained the features.

The Room:
The room is spacious with a large double bed and modern design. Everything looked new and well maintained. Large flat panel tv on the wall opposite the bed, a small fridge which was empty for the occupants to refrigerate their own items, a large safety deposit box, large amounts of free power points, efficient aircon system. Good quality bed linen and pillows. Motorized block out blinds that completely block daylight. The balcony is large enough for a table and two chairs and offers partially obstructed lake views (see photo).

The Bathroom:
Not overly spacious, but again modern, functional, clean and well maintained. Good size shower cabin with rain shower head. No bath tub. High quality amenities.

The Breakfast:
Every room has its own allocated table in the spacious breakfast room, so there is no wait.
The breakfast buffet is simply great, with lots of healthy choices, several different fruit juices, a high-end coffee automate.

Other Facilities:
Gym, jacuzzi, sauna, massage wellness area, all of which we didn't use. Reasonably sized outdoor pool with sun stretchers.

The Crew:
The hotel is not small, but still gives you the pleasant feel of a small family run business with a very personal approach to the guests and a very friendly and motivated crew, in particular Claudio, the owner, who seems to be around at all times and everywhere.

Conclusion:
This is definitely a great hotel, modern, well run, with a fantastic crew. It is probably perfect for guests who don't want to leave the premises and spend their holidays mostly by the poolside and in the wellness area – and there seemed to be quite a few of those present. However for the more active traveler, its biggest disadvantage is the distance to the town centre and in particular accessible parts of the lake As we saw during our stay, there are quite a few nice waterfront hotels in town. So while there is absolutely nothing wrong with the Casa Barca, we would definitely want to be closer to the lake if we returned to Malcesine.

We stayed here 24th to 31st July and had a thoroughly fabulous time. I wondered whether our visit would meet my expectations following the numerous glowing reports posted here on Trip Advisor and we werent disappointed. The hotel is spotless, chic and unpretentious. Attention to detail is evident everywhere with high quality products used throughout the hotel. Claudio and his team provide excellent customer service and his restaurant recommendations are worth noting. The view from the roof terrace is magnificent and there is always plenty of space to relax and enjoy the calm and pleasant surroundings.

Malcesine itself is delightful with plenty of quaint cobbled streets, shops, restaurants, bars. Splendid lakeside walks both north and south are highly recommended. It is easy to visit other resorts along the lake either by boat or bus. The boats can be a tad expensive and time consuming. It might be worth considering using the public bus service which connects places quickly and cheaply. The bus station is a very short walk from Casa Barca from where you can catch the regular Verona service which travels up and down the lakeside road. We caught the 'fast' boat service south to Bardolino, but this journey still takes over 2 hours. The trip down to Bardolino was on an enclosed hydrofoil service which was quite stuffy and airless, however, the return trip was on a much nicer boat which had an outside seating area ensuring we had a perfect journey back to Malcesine.

The Saturday market at Malcesnie is lovely and travels around the lake throughout the week. We also caught it in Limone on Tuesday. The trip up Monte Baldo is a must, but it is best to get to the cable car relatively early, The air at the top of the mountain was so refreshing and a welcome change to the 38+ degrees temperature down in Malcesine.

There is just so much to see and do in and around Malcesine and I wouldnt hesitate to return back to the Casa Barca.
