I couldn't have wished for a more fabulous view from the balcony and shared pool terrace, which were beautiful, but the apartment itself (we had the smaller downstairs apartment) had a few problems. The kitchenette had only 2 electric rings and no oven, and the rings were too close together so it was impossible to cook a family sized pan of pasta and use the frying pan at the same time. There was no bread knife, oven glove or tea towels. No dishwasher, and water did not really get hot enough for washing dishes so had to boil water. There was no lighting in the kitchen area, and only a standard lamp in the corner of the living room (no central light); this was an up-lighter which kept attracting insects and then setting them on fire so every evening there was a smell of burning moths. There is a mixture of older and newer style electric sockets, so UK visitors might need to be aware their adaptors may not fit them all. Second bedroom was tiny & had no mirror.
Shortcut path into town was steep, uneven (unsuitable for long skirts or heels) and overgrown with brambles, with dog mess lurking. It was unlit so not advisable after dark.
The cottage is up the hill from downtown malcesine. You can walk as there is a little path from the cottage to the main road. Only a 5 minute drive to the main square. The house is comfortable. Definitely self catering, so bring your own food, dish soap, etc. the pool and jacuzzi look great. We did not use them as the weather was a bit too cool in April. We brought our dog. The garden around the house is lovely but only fenced on one side. I would recommend the house, and would stay again - but in May or June so that we could enjoy the pool.
