We stayed here for 3 days for my sisters wedding. We were going to camp but decided to get a cheap hotel instead. This hotel was great value for the money we paid - clean but basic and right in the centre of town. We had a fan in the room, clean towels each day, and breakfast was fine. The owner/front of house guy is an interesting character, as other people have made reference to, but this didn't detract from our experience! If you're after something cheap and simple, but clean and comfortable, this is ideal.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are quieter as they are off the main street

Wow, this place is just perfect, right in the centre of the town, local to everything, basic room, with hot water all day and catered for all at breakfast, a lift that accommodated our needs and the manager with a tux tuc he helped us out with hugely as was a family trip with a grandma in tow! Fantastic. Would stay here again!

Room Tip: Cheap but has everything you need!!

Having carefully planned my holiday due to my disability (unable to walk up hill due to a recent operation which led me to become registered as disabled) I asked the owner on arrival if I could arrange for a lift in his tut tut to the bus station on the following Sunday, when my wife and I had arranged to visit the Opera at Verona.
A curt 'No' was his reply, only adding that people 'who could not walk at all were eligable',although anybody can read on his website advertising his Hotel that this 'service' is available to all.

During our stay we witnessed his rudeness, arrogance and indifference towards numererous guests, particularly towards people who had booked through Inghams as opposed to independent travellers. These people travelled in his tut tut regularly.

The reason for his behaviour is anyones guess.

If you do not wish to return from your holiday with happy memories, book it here.

Hotel Modena is central and in a good place. Staff are very friendly. Gino should not be front of house but is very hard working and has a very dry sense of humour. He is very helpful with people who have difficulty getting to places. No air conditioning but we had a fantastic fan. I would stay here again most definately.

The Modena is in a very central position, rooms are kept very clean, bedding and towels changed every few days and the breakfast and evening meals were good and the two Romanian ladies who serve in the dining room are lovely. It is a 2 star hotel, good value for money, don't expect 4 star and you won't be disappointed. There is a high turnover of guests who stay for a few nights for weddings/cycle/walking breaks but also those who are there for their main holiday of the year, most of whom book through the tour operator Inghams and therein lies the problem with this hotel. If you are an Inghams guest, the owner, Gino, can't stand you and will make this perfectly clear when you check in. You won't experience the 'dry' sense of humour he bestows on other guests, (he has more faces than the town hall clock) only his distain that you have had the cheek to stay there and after that we will do his best to ignore you or be as unhelpful as possible. Spend your money in another Malcesine hotel - Gino doesn't deserve it.

Room Tip: Service rating is for ladies in dining room. Rooms at back are quieter but as you need windows open...

Hotel Modena was a very comfortable hotel in a perfect location, in the centre of Malcesine. Gino and his staff were very welcoming and helpful, without being intrusive, and did their best to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. The rooms were large and airy, with fans to keep the rooms pleasant even in July. Everything was very clean and well presented. We were particularly impressed with the wide range of choices at breakfast.
We would definitely recommend this hotel to others and would love to go back ourselves!

This hotel is very central and is great value for money. The rooms are quite basic and we found it quite noisy at night (due to the location). There was no AC so it was quite hot. The staff were friendly and rooms were clean.
