Hotel Modena is central and in a good place. Staff are very friendly. Gino should not be front of house but is very hard working and has a very dry sense of humour. He is very helpful with people who have difficulty getting to places. No air conditioning but we had a fantastic fan. I would stay here again most definately.

The Modena is in a very central position, rooms are kept very clean, bedding and towels changed every few days and the breakfast and evening meals were good and the two Romanian ladies who serve in the dining room are lovely. It is a 2 star hotel, good value for money, don't expect 4 star and you won't be disappointed. There is a high turnover of guests who stay for a few nights for weddings/cycle/walking breaks but also those who are there for their main holiday of the year, most of whom book through the tour operator Inghams and therein lies the problem with this hotel. If you are an Inghams guest, the owner, Gino, can't stand you and will make this perfectly clear when you check in. You won't experience the 'dry' sense of humour he bestows on other guests, (he has more faces than the town hall clock) only his distain that you have had the cheek to stay there and after that we will do his best to ignore you or be as unhelpful as possible. Spend your money in another Malcesine hotel - Gino doesn't deserve it.

Room Tip: Service rating is for ladies in dining room. Rooms at back are quieter but as you need windows open (no air con), smoke drifts in from guests using internal courtyard.

Hotel Modena was a very comfortable hotel in a perfect location, in the centre of Malcesine. Gino and his staff were very welcoming and helpful, without being intrusive, and did their best to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. The rooms were large and airy, with fans to keep the rooms pleasant even in July. Everything was very clean and well presented. We were particularly impressed with the wide range of choices at breakfast.
We would definitely recommend this hotel to others and would love to go back ourselves!

This hotel is very central and is great value for money. The rooms are quite basic and we found it quite noisy at night (due to the location). There was no AC so it was quite hot. The staff were friendly and rooms were clean.

We stayed at the Hotel Modena on our recent visit to Malcesine.
Having visited last year and stayed in a slightly less central hotel it was great to be in such a central location literally on the door step of the castle, and for the money we paid we really thought it was good value.
My only complaints really are that the room we had (203) was very dark, mushy pea coloured walls and dim lighting, the tiled bathroom was well lit but for the duration of our stay had a rather unpleasant sewage smell but seemed spotlessly clean.
Our rooms were made up every morning and the bins emptied.
There is no aircon in the room, and since we were staying in malcesine during an apparent heat wave we were a little uncomfortable. You can open the windows and wooden shutters but due to being in such a central location its very noisy until late at night and then from about 7am onwards. The windows did shut out a lot of the noise but it was too warm to keep them shut - having said that the owner was kind enough to loan us a stand up fan for the duration of our stay as well as allowing us to use his car parking pass to park our hire car for free saving us about 30 euros :-)

The breakfast was adequate - cereals, fruit, toast, boiled eggs, meats and cheeses with a selection of juices and tea and coffee.

If you dont mind the noise and the lack of air con then the Hotel Modena is a great little place for the money, however could be made a lot more attractive with a lick of paint round the place.
