We have been to Malcesine many times over the last 30 years. It is the best and most beautiful town on Lake Garda, the most unspoilt because of its traffic-free streets, charming harbour and compact but plentiful choice of shops, restaurants and cafes, and Hotel Costello is in our opinion the best hotel there. By miles. You will find cheaper, but here you get what you pay for and more.

Family owned and run, the attentiveness and professionalism of the staff is of the highest standard. This isn't a family-run hotel where the owners think being friendly is all it takes; they are there to ensure your holiday is perfect and it clearly matters to them. They are happy to chat and be friendly if that's what you want, but just as happy to leave you in peace if that's your thing - and peace is what Malcesine is all about. If you want night-life or to go for some loud drinking, please don't go there - at least when we're there!

With a fantastic location right on the lake-front with I think all of the rooms having stunning lake views, there is a walk up a short hill to get into the town but nothing like the trek some other locations require and the town centre is maybe 100 yards away. This modern hotel is maintained in absoloutely perfect condition throughout and furnishings and decor are of a very high standard. Even the plentiful sunbeds on the spacious lake-side lawn are lined up with millimetre-accuracy every evening! Food is excellent - though there are also some very good restaurants in the town if you like to vary where you eat - and the buffet-style breakfast of hot and cold options the best I have ever seen.

The only drawback for some is there isn't an outside swimming-pool, but then there is a rather large one right in front of you! And the big benefit is you don't get the noise that can be associated with hotel pools, and I think they have made the right decision not to have one. Nor would I especially recommend it for kids though a kids play-area is provided and they'd be welcomed - but it just isn't that sort of hotel where they can let off steam without probably irritating other guests, and they might be bored, though a couple of miles away there is a lake-sports centre at Torbole where you can wind-surf, ski, or even jump of a cliff hanging onto a kite if that's what you like doing.... But the hotel itself is a place for relaxing and enjoying the comforts only a very good quality hotel can offer, and ideal in my opinion for couples or families with older children who can appreciate the scenery and setting.

Booking is easy - the staff have good English (though we are trying to learn some Italian...making the effort, however poor, seems to be much appreciated by the locals) and it's simple to book online at the hotel website, with Verona being the best airport to go to. I believe the hotel can arrange transfers but we have always hired a car at the airport - the hotel has an ample car-park. Driving in that area we find easy with little of the more hectic style of driving you can find in some parts of Italy, though there can be traffic-jams on the lakeside road (check market days) so we often use the boats to visit other lakeside towns.

We have just come back and yes we have already booked for next year! Highly recommended.

Room Tip: We do know what the best room to book is, but as we go there every year and don't want people bo...

This very good experience at Hotel Castello july 2014 started with the perfect booking & feedback. A short wish list makes the arrival and following stay splendid. We took the reserved easy & chilly underground car park. but also outside lots of space to park or to do some family sports.. Great view at the Castle.

Fine restaurant and tasty breakfast. Rooms and bar are beautiful and well treated, even several times a day. A perfect service at the lake side while staying in the chairs, and afterwards dayly a perfect room check. by the way, i like the red bonbons :)
10 steps to the lake. 3 minutes by foot to the Monte Baldo Cable Railway and 5 minutes walking to the center of Malcesine where you can take the boat to any place around the lake. Or you can take a bike at the Hotel Castello. No car traffic around the Hotel makes this place a quiet and safe area. Even the lake is quiet at this place. And.. probably the most important, the experienced Family Treccani and the Team at the Hotel Castello ! With special thanks to them all for the interesting touristic/historical information and !! our stressless holiday.

So when we left..
Booking "in" for next year while booking "out" speaks for itself.. Regards.
Jan and Karol Empsen Dewallens . Belgium.

Room Tip: Rooms: almost no noise comming from the lake or other floors, and no noise at all from traffics.

We stayed at the Hotel Castello for a week at the beginning of July. Our flight from the UK was delayed two hours so arrived later than expected and had, therefore, missed dinner. However, on arrival a cold supper was provided, which was much needed and appreciated!

The hotel is in an excellent location, next to the castle and centre of Malcesine. The staff were friendly and helpful.

The room was a good size with a small balcony overlooking the lake. The only negatives were the very small shower cubicle and the hair dryer, which was extremely hot and dried your hair but it's design made it difficult to style it! Will remember to take a travel dryer next time!

We had booked half board with a view to eating out a couple of evenings. However the choice and quality of the food was very good so we ate in every evening.

Would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay here again if we return to Malcesine.

My wife, daughter and I stayed for 10 nights recently (July 2014) when we visited for a friend's wedding. The location is first class, being both on the lake front yet only 5 minutes walk into the town centre. The lake front is busy during the day, but not uncomfortably busy, and quiet in the evenings.
The rooms are a decent size, big enough and each with some form of balcony or outside seating area. The hotel also has its own lake front garden and beach with plenty of room for guests.
The jewel in this crown in terms of facilities is the upstairs bar/restaurant which affords fabulous views over the lake across towards Limone, no better place to enjoy lunch or an evening drink and meal as the sun goes down (see the photo). I can still taste the ice cold beer whilst marvelling at the view!
And finally, the staff are outstanding. Friendly without being too familiar, helpful, flexible and of course multi-lingual.

Room Tip: Decide if you prefer a balcony with lake view or garden room with immediate access to the garden and...

We stayed 3 nights at the Hotel Castello Lake Front. It's in a superb position, right next to Lake Garda and the castle. When I booked it, it was the last available room and I knew it overlooked the garden not the lake. While not large, the room was comfortable and you could just see the lake which was nice. We had a small patio outside as well which led into the garden and then onto the lake. You can park for free in the outside garden area or pay to use their garage (outside is fine). The staff were all extremely polite and helpful.
The hotel is very close to the centre of Malcesine and all its narrow cobbled streets. We were very happy with the hotel and would definitely recommend it.

My fiancee (now my wife!) and I spent a week at the hotel prior to and immediately after our wedding in Malcesine. I can honestly say that for us the experience we had at the hotel was the finest we have received anywhere in the world. It was the first time I have been greeted at a hotel reception by an extremely polite, good humoured and attentive concierge by my name before I had approached the desk! The entire staff were attentive, professional and discrete making the whole experience relaxing and enjoyable. The room (we stayed in 304) had the most breathtaking view of the lake and surrounding mountains; sitting on the balcony looking at the spectacular scenery one could feel the pressures of work melt away.
The meals were also first rate with an expansive breakfast (omelets made to order) setting you up for the days activities. Relaxing in the grounds on the sun loungers or in the bar and restaurant with dedicated and friendly staff is the striking memory I will take away with me from this stay. Both my wife and I are already looking forward to returning next year! Well done all at the Castello.

Room Tip: ANy west facing room looks directly onto the lake and mountains beyond, fantastic!
