“Amazing hotel in beautiful surroundings with fantastic customer service”
Reviewed August 1, 2014

My family has just returned after a 10 day stay at the Club Olivi. We had the most fantastic time despite some intermittent rain and clouds - not much you can do about that.

The hotel is spacious with beautiful grounds - an array of olive trees appear wherever you go. The swimming pool is large, clean and well structured with plenty of sub beds and areas to relax. Towels are provided free of charge - simply collect from reception each day. The pool bar is well stocked and open from 10 to 6. The tennis facilities are excellent, 9 courts in total, with two covered, should the weather turn bad. The two coaches are very personable and talented. There is a re-stringing service and balls can be purchased from reception. Court booking is done one day in advance - we never had a problem getting a court each day. Food is very good - (a buffet breakfast was comprehensive and well stocked, whilst the dinner was interesting, tasty with plenty of choice).

The main thing that stood out was the excellent levels of customer service. Everyone is friendly, helpful and polite. The staff are very well presented and intent on making everyone feel relaxed and happy. They were chatty and interested in what we were doing, without being over the top. Overall, a fantastic experience - we enjoyed it so much that we've already booked for next year. Plus, it's only a five minute walk to the Lake Garda shoreline and from there a 15 minute walk into the centre of Malcesine, a beautiful little town with a castle.

Room Tip: Rooms in block 3 are the quietest

What a great place! Beautiful grounds. Family owned and operated. We returned her for a special anniversary after visiting many years ago. Clay courts, large pool, good food, gorgeous scenery, what more could you want?

Room Tip: Regular rooms are a bit small, book a junior suite.

Arriving at this hotel we were shown to our room and immediately were hit with the air con, which was glorious! The rooms are clean, we had a shared access to a huge balcony and a really wonderfully powerful shower. The food is amazing and the staff are so helpful and can't do enough to make you feel at home. Whilst we were there a huge thunder storm occurred and we stayed outside with members of staff to watch it, the position of the hotel meant we could see the lightening lighting up the whole mountain range it was incredible. The whole time we were at this hotel everything was high quality and amazing, I would certainly stay here again.

The best sides of the experience were very enjoyable and could have been the basis for a much better overall experience. We left thinking it was a shame that the experience had been undermined by several factors. The hotel is in a lovely spot and the tennis courts are very well kept. Also, the tennis coaching was great and the waitstaff very friendly and accommodating.

The rooms are basic but fine. The beds were not that comfortable and not the best night's sleep. Also, they seem to only come in twin, which came as a surprise, having been assured a double bed during phone calls while making booking.

As the hotel caters to a largely German clientele, the food is much longer on potato salad, ham, and shrimp cocktail than what I would expect from an Italian hotel. I would strongly advise against the half board, as there are a range of excellent restaurants in Malcesine and even a couple nearer by.

The above taken into account, I might have considered recommending it to friends looking for an Italian tennis holiday. However the front desk service was so poor it nearly ruined the experience.

The ladies at the front desk were unable to answer any of our questions about why our booking preferences had not been taken into account nor able to suggest acceptable alternatives. That was not great. Then on the fourth day we asked for early check for the following day. We were told that would be fine, but could not be processed until the next day. On the next day, when it came time for check out, they surprised us with a cancellation fee and aggressive conversation about legal rights. The whole thing was unpleasant and felt strangely unprofessional.

Room Tip: Hard to say

A group of 15 - 20 ladies travel every september for 4 days to play tennis, but it is alot more than just tennis, we receive a great welcome and a lovely time while there, we walk into town every evening for dinners, swim in the lake and have an odd glass of prosecco .... Vanessa and staff could not be more accomodating every year both in the initial bookings to arranging pick ups, reservations, special requests etc, we have tried other tennis venues in Europe but unannamous opinion is to stick with the best.

Room Tip: go for the armonia 2nd floor best views, some are wider than others, last one has a corner view

Recently stayed at the Hotel Olivi whilst on a short trip to attend a wedding at the Castle in Malcesine.
The hotel staff were really friendly and helpful, they arranged taxi's and salon hair apointment for my wife all at short notice. They couldn't do enough.
The location is a little out of the town and if you are not careful can find yourself wandering about the roads late at night if you decide to walk back from town, should take 20 mins but if you get lost like us, took us an hour as we didn't walk along the promenade.
The town itself is wonderful and welcoming, lots of cafe/bars/restaurants overlooking Lake Garda, the views are stunning. If you are attending a wedding, you will be overwhelmed as it doesn't get much better.
The rooms at the hotel are not amazing, but are clean and functional and from what we saw if you are into clay court tennis you will enjoy your stay. The pool area is good with amazing views of the mountains (not the lake) but a little cold at the deep end.

Room Tip: Try and request a room near the pool on a high floor so you can get a lake view.

This hotel has the best of both worlds.... a 20 minute walk along the lake to malcesine and very spacious and big gardens and lots of courts. The staff are super friendly and helpful, food is good with a great breakfast and quite good dinner (candle supper fantastic, buffet fine without being amazing). Nice pool with lots of loungers, shade and loads of space. Easy to book a court which is 12 e and hour. But it does not feel like a tennis hotel, it is a lovely hotel that happens to have tennis courts. We had the basic rooms and they were fine, big enough with a nice balcony and great view. The area is fantastic, beautiful with loads to do...cycling, walking, kayaking. Malcesine is pretty with lots of shops and restaurants (and tourists, so nice to be a bit out of town). would recommend and would go back.

Room Tip: Get a front view, only 5e a night extra.
