“Incredible location and good value.”
Reviewed May 27, 2012

Me, my wife and 2 kids stayed here for my brothers wedding and were not disappointed. We had a last minute flight cancellation to contend with so decided to try and get out a day earlier. Gloria couldn't have been more helpful she rearranged our booking straight away and changed our transfers from the airport. She also kept me updated on any flight problems for the rest of the wedding party.

The room was pretty basic but it was clean and was cleaned every day during our stay

The pool area was perfect and gives amazing views over the lake and of the castle

The breakfast was nice and what you would expect of a continental breakfast with plenty of cereals, fruit, cold meats, cheeses and also scrambled eggs

Malcesine itself is a great little place with some nice bars and restaurants serving some brilliant food. My kids couldn't get enough of the local ice cream!!

Whilst in Malcesine we went up to Monte Baldo in the cable cars which gave some brilliant views of the lake and mountains.
We also took a boat out for the afternoon which are available to hire and even my son got the chance to drive it

My brothers wedding at the castle was perfect and we enjoyed every minute of our stay.

Gutted to be back home although we would love to go back at some point and would return to the Hotel Internazionale

I spent two weeks in Malcesine at the end of July. The town itself with a breathtaking view to the lake Garda surrounded by majestic mountains is definitely worth a visit. I was travelling solo but got a small twin room with very little space where to put your things. Also, there was no fridge. Air conditioning was a plus. I was annoyed over the fact that there were two adjacent rooms with a door in between, so that if the residents in the next room were smoking, snoring or a baby crying, whatever, it was like they were sharing a room with me, as there was no proper wall. The room was reasonably clean and on second floor facing the mountains but there was another building quite near, so the balcony wasn't of much use. Also, it seemed the kitchen was right below, so vans bringing stuff to the restaurant made a noise every now and then. The bathroom/shower was OK but I've never seen such a weird hairdryer before. The bed was too hard for my back and the pillows were terrible! The restaurant/breakfast room had a nice view to the lake. The breakfast was OK, but during the second week it really made you wish there was a bit more variation in the choice. Coffee was excellent. The staff seemed to be pretty tired. I had an unfortunate experience the very first morning as the waitress splashed orange juice all over my white linen skirt. With juice dripping down the hem to my shoes, I stood like paralyzed unable to even sigh, and she just said: no problem, and didn't even make a gesture to help me in any way whatever. She did however then agree to have my skirt washed. And this happened. But after that she always walked past me with her nose high up in the air like a queen, whose feelings had been hurt. And I had even thanked her for the arrangement! Incredible. - The real gem of this hotel was the fantastic pool facing the lake! I simply loved it.

Room Tip: A room with the lake view in the main building is best.

It is hard to decide whether or not this is a good or a bad place to stay. Our feelings on it were so well split. On the plus side the room was clean and well maintained, the pool area was relaxing and had a great view out over the lake. On the negative side the street up to the hotel was not that well lit at night and as the surface was part cobble, part concrete and also quite steep it would not perhaps be the best place for for anyone with an aversion to slopes to stay.
The staff were accomdating enough but overall lacked any empathy with their guests. Breakfast if you stuck to the cold plate was fine but the scrambled eggs somehow always managed to on the brown side of perfect. Our room was at the back which may be for the best as it did mean the room was a little cooler but the view was quite depressing being the reae end of another hotel and the road into the car park.
Overall rating it was a place to sleep not a place to enjoy but as a base for staying in Malcesine it was fine, no more no less.I wish that I could be more enthusiastic about it because Malcesine is such a wonderful old town with so many great places to eat and sit out in the sun but that is the best we can give it.

Room Tip: Try for a room at the front facing the lake

Well situated just a short walk to the centre, be warned some roads quite steep. Do not miss the trip on the cable car to Mount Baldo amazing. Riva del Garde is well worth a trip Limone I found disapointing just too busy, although there are some fantastic views if you venture upwards and have a drink in one of the hotels and just enjoy the views. I must mention the extremely small shower cubicle in the Internazionale this I feel would benefit from an upgrade as otherwise a very nice small hotel. Breakfast acceptable bar meals a little disappointing, do not let this put you off as there are many reasonable resturants nearby.

Room Tip: Nearly all the rooms have a view of the Lake so cannot really go wrong. We had a corner room that al...

Arrived at the hotel after 3 hours on the road, at 4 PM, we found the lake view, the pool & the lobby very impressive. Of course, we had checked all this on the website before booking this 3 star hotel...
What a disappointment when we were lead to the Annex... a green, old building, with the entrance door never closed (security???), and a corridor poorly lit (could not even see the keyhole...). The room had no view on the lake but on the parking (!!!) & the kitchen (thus very noisy hearing the breakfast being prepared from 6 AM...), no air-conditioning, the carpet was stained & visibly not vacuum-cleaned on the arrival day. The shower... had very low pressure, broken doors, broken tap & stained floor. There was no fridge, of course. The TV had only 4 channels, all German (!!!) and the remote control did not work.
Yes, the booking confirmation mentioned a "Double room dependance" but the booking process is confusing: it shows pictures of the main building with 3 stars, it does not define what "dependance" means or that it will be lower quality, it does not display any warning. So this is fake publicity!
Yes, we could nevertheless use the pool & the breakfast in the main building, but had i known that - I would have readily paid a few extra euros...
On top of it all, the staff... not really friendly or welcoming. When we complained on check-in about the non-compliancy between website's pictures & reality, the clerk just replied "Yes, but you did not book through me, and you can go & find another hotel"! We had no choice but stay there. When we complained again during check-out & mentioned the other defects (rugs, shower...), the clerk bluntly replied that we should have gone instead of staying, that it was possible (!!!) that the TV remote was broken & that maybe, yes, they should explain a bit more about what dependance is. BUt they did not even think of a commercial gesture, like a partial refund, not even offered us a coffee or a cocktail to get rid of us peacefully! so we had our say in a quite noisy way, i admit, but they did not seem to bother...
What a pity... the main building is really great, but make sure NOT to book the ANNEX or DEPENDANCE. And the staff is not really helpful or even smiling.
I am chocked to see i am no the only one having this problem, reading posts as old as 2008 showing that it never improved...
Good luck, and do enjoy Italy, which remains a beautiful country!

We enjoyed a brief stay at the Internazionale.

The hotel sits well above the (busy) lakeside road, up a steep driveway, so the views from the hotel and from the open-air pool are uninterrupted across the lake. Free wi-fi was available in the lounge (ask at reception for details). Some of the hotel staff were helpful, whilst others were not so friendly.

We stayed in the main hotel. The bedrooms all appeared to be very modern (the bathrooms perhaps less so). Our twin-bedded room (112) was really tiny. It appears to be one of the smallest rooms in the hotel, but we booked late, and the larger rooms may be doubles, not twins. The room was on the side of the hotel, with a balcony, but without a lake view. Having said that, we were pleased not be to facing the intense afternoon sun. The air-conditioning was very necessary in the 30+ degree heat.

There was a decent buffet breakfast, which could be taken on the terrace. When we visited the hotel did not offer evening meals but (pre-prepared) snacks were available around the pool during the day. The centre of Malcesine old town was a short walk away along the lake-side path, and overflows with restaurants.

The Monte Baldo cable car was nearby, and the mountain is lovely. Be prepared to queue (1 hour+) at busy times, but we managed to walk straight in during an early afternoon visit. Make sure you ask for a "Welcome Card" at the hotel reception, which gets you a discount on the cable car, and on the ferries around the lake. If you don't ask, you don't get!

Overall, we were very pleased with our choice of Malcesine as a resort, with the stunning backdrop of the mountains, the cable car, the ferries, and the old town which provided some respite from the heat. On balance, we were also very happy with the Internazionale. Compared to other hotels (we travelled with Inghams(UK)), it was away from the noisy town centre, but only a short walk; it has a nice pool which wasn't too busy, and the room was air-conditioned.

Room Tip: Room 112 is very small
