I ate in 3 restaurants in 3 nights in the town of Malcesine and previously I had subscribed to the saying "there is no such thing as a bad meal in Italy", however the restaurants located in the picturesque, tourist areas of Malcesine prove that saying wrong. I saw this restaurant on the first night and it was full. It is located in a really pretty spot so we came back.
Location - really nice
Service - good
Food - below average
Wine - good.
This is the first time ever in Italy that I returned my meal. The lamb was so tough you couldn't actually chew it. The sauce was to rich and quantity was not subtle.
The restaurant willing replaced the meal with another choice (pork wrapped in ham with a mustard sauce) but again meat was very average quality and the sauce was definitely not subtle.
I learnt that if you eat in restaurants that are only patronised by tourists choose something basic like a pizza.
