We stayed at the Majestic Palace from 3rd to 10th August 2013 with our two children aged 8 and 12.

First impression on arrival were of a spacious, clean, modern hotel. Check in was swift and staff were friendly and welcoming. All staff were English speaking and could communicate clearly with us.

Our room was a deluxe family room in the annexe. It was spacious with a huge balcony with a fabulous view over Lake Garda and the mountains. The en suite was also very spacious. The entire room was spotlessly clean.

There was more than ample storage with a large wardrobe for hanging clothes as well as plenty of shelving. Air conditioning was very welcome as we arrived in a heat wave!

We stayed on a half bard basis. Breakfast was buffet style and we enjoyed a full cooked breakfast and unlimited tea, coffee and juices each morning. As the restaurant was buffet style there was always something to suit all tastes including our vegetarian daughter. Lunch was included on most days and there was a huge variety of food on offer again with free alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages. Dinner was in the same vein. The dining room was spotless, staff attentive and friendly and the choice of dishes was extensive. Portions were not waistline friendly!!!

Previous reviews have been unfavourable about the restaurant but we found it relaxing and thoroughly enjoyed the excellent food on offer each day.

There are three swimming pools. We spent most of our time at the smallest one closest to our room. It was very private and had superb views over the mountains. The grounds were vast and included private gardens, mini golf, table tennis, tennis courts and a basketball area. There were also two children's play parks. Plenty to keep our 8 year old entertained and on several days we stayed all day within the hotel grounds (which is unusual for us!)

Free entertainment was provided most nights and a leisurely drink could be enjoyed in the bar or on the terrace. There was no entertainment on Friday night and it might be an idea to provide some as most patrons left on a Saturday and it would have been nice to have one final night's craic!

Staff were extremely helpful. We went on an excursion to Venice which meant we were missing an evening meal. Staff contacted us unprompted and arranged for a very luxurious packed lunch for the excursion to be provided to us after breakfast the next day. Our children were treated very affectionately by waiting staff and a great fuss was made over them.

The hotel is located about 15mins walk from the village. Most of this walk is uphill but manageable. The hotel has a courtesy bus which costs 1 Euro each way. There is also a tourist bus which stops at the hotel but there is always a throng of people trying to catch it and getting on can be a bit of a scrum!

Malcesine itself is a large village with plenty of shops, bars, restaurants and cafes. It has beautiful cobbled narrow streets and the views from the lake shore are breath taking!

We returned from Malcesine on Saturday 10th August after a week long holiday and by lunch time on Monday 12th had booked a two week stay at the Majestic Palace for 2014! I think this speaks volumes as to our experience.

Room Tip: Try to get a deluxe room in the annexe.

I have been reading mixed reviews on this hotel for the last year since I booked it for myself,my husband, daughter and son in law and two grand daughters aged 6 and 19 months. People who have moaned about this place must be very very hard to please as we found it wonderful. Check in staff are lovely and we were checked in in less than 10 mins. We were on the 1st floor facing the pool with a rather large balcony which we shared with my daughter and her family next door. The reception area is beautiful and large, the 5 pools are great, our 6 yr old granddaughter couldn't choose which one to swim in as she loved them all. There was plenty of loungers but do as the Germans do and get up early if you have a particular spot. When we went for our 1st dinner we were taken to a table already set up for 5 plus a high chair and that was our table for the duration of our holiday, which was great. There was a good enough selection of food of which you had free wine, beer and soft drinks, and also 4 free lunches during our week. The dining room does get hot but just ask and they will open the windows for you.
There is a hotel shuttle bus which costs €1 and starts about 8.30 am till dinner time. Then you have the tourist bus for the same price which is 10 mins later and these buses are free for kids. We are quickish walkers but it took us about 20 mins to walk to the large roundabout near the bus station.
Do not hesitate to go to this hotel, whether your a couple or a family, there is a lovely bar and terrace for drinks or snacks and entertainment.

We (my parents, daughter and myself) for a fortnight the first two week's of the summer holiday.

After reading mixed reviews on Trip Advisor I did expect to find a few things not to standard and am so pleased to report everything was absolutely amazing.

We arrived at about 10.30am on a Saturday morning. One of the rooms was ready and one wasn't - considering check out isn't until 10am for departing guests and they do state check in isn't until 3pm this really wasn't a problem. We put all our cases in the one room and headed off for a coffee. Reception come to find us on site (its a big site) to let us know the other room was ready - this was about 11.30am so still much earlier than the advertised check in time and they still had thr courtesy to apologise for the delay.

First impressions of the hotel were definitely WOW! The reception is large and really bright and clean. The reception staff were all lovely.

The rooms (we did have deluxe rooms) were huge, nicely decorated and spotlessly clean. The maid service comes in daily to change the bins/towels etc and the bedding is changed every other day.

The food in the hotel is delightful, beautifully presented and so much choice you'd have to be a seriously fussy eater to not find something you like. On Thursday they hold a traditional Gala Dinner and really pull out all the stops for the complete jaw dropping wow on their presentation. All the food servers and waiting staff are so friendly. It is a buffet which I know isnt to everyones liking but it really is a fab way of being able to try loads of stuff without ordering a full meal of it and to say we were there in height of season it flowed really well.

The hotel has 5 pools, the main pool, a shallow "baby" pool, a small round one depth pool, a small pool with a slide going into it and an indoor pool. All of which were kept really nice and had plenty of sunbeds for people to laze on.

There was a crazy golf, table tennis and pool table there where you had to pay for using them but it wasn't expensive. There is also a soft play area and trampoline which are free to use.

The hotel is a good 10 minute walk to the town centre and coming home it'll be uphill! The hotel run a minibus for€1, there is a also a tourist bus and occasionally a small public bus that runs too.

The hotel is a bit pricey for drinks but you do get free beer / house wine with dinner so it's not bad.

It's a family hotel so there's bound to be kids there which wasn't s problem for me as I had my 11 year old with me but if you're looking for a quiet break then it may not be for you.

I absolutely could not find any fault with this hotel. I would definitely stay here again and challenge anyone to find something to moan about.

We stayed at the majestic for 7 nights at the end of July for a family wedding in Malcesine. Due to no prior knowledge of the area we booked through a travel agents without any research but settled because it was in Malcesine. It may as well not have been in Malcesine, it is located way off the center of town up an incline which is never pleasant after a long day in 35 degree heat to walk 25 minutes to your hotel, yet there is a tourist bus for 1 euro but only runs once an hour so is hardly convenient. The majestic palace makes the, in my opinion, crucial error of not having air conditioning in the public areas such as restaurant/bar/reception etc. This is simply not good enough in such climates for a 4* hotel, many guests were dripping with sweat at dinner. Fortunately, the ac in the rooms works fine or i would have moved hotels immediately. The rooms are adequate albeit dated with reasonable views with good maid service. Staff are hit and miss with some very good waiters in the bar coupled with some unhelpful recepionists. The hotel was around a 40/40 split of english and german guests with the remainder italian/others.
In fairness, the quality of food considering it is buffet style is very good, however the stations are poorly arranged often leading to bottlenecks or people lining up right next to others tables. The fact that the chef's serve you portions instead of self service doesn't help this.
Overall, lake garda itself is beautiful and a great place however i would not stay here again or recommend it to others.

This is a very well run hotel with good quality rooms and a wide selection of well cooked and tasty food, all you could wish for in a holiday hotel.
The hotel grounds are pretty and well tended and the pools clean and well maintained.
The staff wish a cheery buon giorno and truly look as though they mean it.
I was not in a delux room , one of the Attic rooms with a very private balconey and lake and mountain views, it was clean and spacious, with good air conditioning ,great bathroom and satellite tv (small tv )
only down side is distance from resort-this made it peaceful, despite some local construction work which truly did not ruin the atmosphere.
We were there late July and it was very hot ,so the walk down to and especially back from town really did take it out of us for the first few days. there is a shuttle bus and a tourist bus both charge 1 euro and if you plan your journeys, they are well worth the price.

Room Tip: we were in 403, in the main wing, room was spacious and well equipped with good views and a very pri...

Lake Garda was beautiful, and I would recommend it to anyone because it caters for all Ages. Although I'm reviewing the hotel I stayed in, so I will get cracking. Me(27), my wife (25) and my daughter (5) stayed in Hotel Majestic Palace, Malcesine, in July 2013. Below is a list of categories to make it easier to read:

ROOMS: The hotel calls itself 4 star, but the room i stayed in was 2 star at best, and that's being generous. The double bed was fine, but the pull out sofa bed for my daughter was a joke, it would break your back it was so uncomfortable. The TV was like something from the 90's, 14 channels in German, Dutch and Italian.....and BBC world news. No good for english speaking people. Nice spacious mirrored sliderobes, acceptable bathroom with dodgy shower that made a very loud rattling noise. Good air conditioniong which was much needed at night. The balcony was tiny, only big enough for 2 people maximum. Does this sound like 4 star?

STAFF: Some staff were nicer than others. A few girls at reception spoke some english and were always helpful whilst being friendly. One fella at reception is a weirdo, he looks through you every time you speak, and just has a general weirdo way about him. I spoke to otherguests about him and a few said he was sleazy and cheeky. The maids were top notch, probably the best maids in any hotel i have stayed in. They are quiet in the mornings, you never hear them or see them, all you get is a tidy room each day, so 10/10 for them. The dining hall serving staff are all nice and chatty, and great with the kids. The dining room "waiters" are pointless and very forward and quick to reprimand the kids which doesn't sit well with me I must admit, but i do see their point i suppose.

FOOD: Half board. Breakfast each morning had a good spread of cereal, bread, tea coffee, eggs, bacon, german sausage, croissants, fruit, fruit juice, cheese and cold meats like ham and salami. I was always happy with this, very good breakfast. We got lunch 5 out of 7 days as well. Chips, pizza and pasta and some leftovers from the evening meal from the previous night. wasn't bad, kids love that sort of grub. Evening meals were very good, massive selection each night of chips, pasta, postaoes, salads, roast meats, pizza, seafood, desserts, the list is endless. You are guaranteed to find something you like eachi night, and we were all happy with the food.

LOCATION: 15 min walk downhill to town. The town wasn't great to be honest, especially if you have young kids or a buggy. the streets are cobbled which makes it sore on the feet and difficult to push the buggy. The good thing about the town is the marina, where boats depart from to other parts of the lake. It's nice at night time with live music and a few nice ice cream places. 1 hour on the boat to Riva which is much nicer.

HOTEL FACILITIES: 3 or 4 different pool areas including an indoor pool. Very clean in all areas, with enough sun loungers to go around the pool areas. They tell you not to reserve them, but you dont have a choice as everyone else does it, otherwise you will be lying on your towel in the corner. The kids' pools were great for my daughter, and its located beside a 5 ft larger pool which is great for families with kids of varying ages. I was delighted with the pools really. Crazy golf (2 euros per person) was useless compared to any other 1 i have played before. Pool table cost 8 euros per hours which is about 4 times the price of pool in the UK, not a bad table though. Tennis i think is 8 euro per hour as well, although i didnt play, but the court look good. Theres a kids soft play area as well which my daughter enjoyed. The bar was a rip off, 4 euro for 400 mls of beer, and 2.80 for a glass of beer. The food was poor at the bar as well, they only do toasties and chips, we ate there once and the toasties were burnt. Cocktails are 6 euros and are sickly sweet. Avoid the bar, go to town and buy beer and wine and hope that you get a decent balcony.

ENTERTAINMENT: Not great, like somehting from an old peoples' home most nights, but it's free, so you dont have to stay there for it. Although the music creates a nice atmosphere in the evenings to go with the truly majestic scenery. The kids club was ok, but our daughter preferred to play with the kids by the pool.

I hope you find this helpful, i was as honest and fair as i could be. Would i stay there again? No...... would i go back to Lake Garda? yes.

Room Tip: If you are staying in the old part of the hotel, ask for a romm on the 1st floor as they have massiv...
