“Wonderful Holiday”
Reviewed July 29, 2010

This was our first time to Italy and was very excited about going. We had very good flights with Thomson both ways. The transfer from Naples airport to our resort on Amalfi Coast was a transfer we have never ever experienced - one word sums it up - STUNNING. We arrived to the hotel and check in was swift and we we arrived to our room which had a side sea view and full sea view, good size balcony. The room was very tidy and clean and the maids did a good job keeping it that way. The hotel itself is a lovely place to stay, staff are so friendly and very helpful. We stayed half board and the food was very good and varied. The waiter staff were very good and the service was excellent, thank you Luigi for looking after us, and the pic is fab of us in the lobby!!. The pool area was a nice place to relax and catch the sun and plenty of beds, parasols etc. The area of Maiori is beautiful with lovely views of sea and views of the mountains of Amalfi Coast. Forgot to mention the spectacular views you have when eating your evening meal at the restaurant. We went to Amalfi, Ravello and Pompeii and hercullaneum. We never managed to get to see Sorrento, Salerno, Postiano so will have to go back another time!! We had a lovely week and met some really lovely people who we are staying in touch with. Hello Ida, Ian, Doris, Joanne and Ash and Hello Luigi and Alexis, it was great meeting you all. If you decide to go here we are sure you will have a good holiday and come home with wonderful memories as we have. Roll on until we go again. Oh and hello to the barman who served us our drinks at the bar. We found it very reasonably priced at hotel and in a nd around Maiori itself. Plenty of places to eat and have a drink. Italian people were very friendly too. I must also mention the Tompson Rep at the hotel, Lynn, she was very nice, thanks Lynn for all your knowledge that you passed onto us.

Just returned from a marvellous two weeks at the Pietra Di Luna in Maiori, with my husband and mother-in-law. I cannot praise the hotel staff too highly, they did everything in their power to make our holiday enjoyable. Our room was clean and spacious with a front sea view, as requested - and wow, what a view of the bay and hills all around us! We spent many a happy hour on the balcony in the sun, relaxing and watching the world go by. It was also a good viewpoint in the evenings, glass of wine in hand, to watch the spectacular firework displays, which Italians seem to enjoy so much.
We never had a problem with obtaining a sunbed by the pool, or in the hotel beach space or in finding a quiet shady spot to sit anywhere along the promenade. Maiori seems much less frenetic than other towns we've visited along the Amalfi coast, although it does have a lot of visitors. This is probably because there is such a wide spacious promenade and main shopping street. Although Sorrento, Amalfi, Positano etc. are very beautiful and quaint, their narrow winding streets do get absolutely packed with tourists. After a hectic trip to Capri one day, (bus to Amalfi, ferry to Capri, etc.) it was great to return to peaceful and welcoming Maiori.
We really enjoyed travelling on the open-topped tourist bus to Amalfi and up to Ravello. Although it was slightly more expensive than the local 'Sita' buses, you could see all the wonderful coastal scenery much better and it was more comfortable and less crowded.
We attended an evening music concert at the Villa Rufolo in Ravello, to celebrate Mum-in-law's 80th birthday, and really enjoyed the experience from start to finish.
On her actual birthday, staff at the hotel couldn't do enough to make it special for her. We started with Bucks Fizz on the hotel terrace and the reception staff arranged for some lovely flowers for the dinner table and champagne as we requested. The hotel provided a birthday cake made by their chef specially and the lovely waiters brought it in, candles blazing!
As regards the food in the hotel, breakfast was a standard European buffet, with plentiful fruit, cereal, biscuits, croissants etc., and the obligatory slow turning toaster!
Dinner was always good, with lovely starters, including delicious pasta, and freshly made desserts. However, the choice for main course was limited. On many nights, if you didn't like fish or veal, the best bet seemed to be to ask for pasta as the main course. As we were leaving, our holiday rep. was speaking to the management, to try and rectify this situation.
Families with young children would probably not like the volcanic sand beach and the way the sea increases sharply in depth. However, we would thoroughly recommend this hotel and Maiori for our (older) age group.

I have just spent a thoroughly enjoyable two weeks at the Pietra di Luna Hotel in Maiori. The hotel is located on the seafront/coastal road. Notwithstanding this I found it very quiet, though some guests disliked that the pool terrace was so close to the road. The pool itself is a good size and we didn’t have any problem securing a sun bed for the day. The hotel also has a private beach section right across the road (in Italy the beaches are mainly private) although admittedly we didn’t use this, preferring the pool. The hotel décor is slightly dated (most notably, the tiles in the bathroom) but this gives the place its own character, and the rooms are clean and fairly spacious. The Pietra di Luna is a relatively quiet hotel and the staff are low key but very friendly and helpful; you might occasionally have to chase down the barman if you fancy a coffee or a snack during the day but then he’ll happily set you up a table on the large terrace or serve your round the pool. The highlight of the hotel is its restaurant. We were half board but had no intention of eating in every night. However, the food and the service was of such great quality that we would have been fools not to! I’m not sure you could eat as well anywhere else in town and the service was impeccable – both friendly and efficient. A great hotel that I wouldn’t hesitate to return to.

Just spent a week as Pietra de Luna hotel. The hotel is in a great location with fab view from the rooms. The staff are wonderful and cannot do enought to help. Rooms immaculate and cleaned every day with change of towels. The food was extremely good and the menu varied every evening. The bathroom we had was very small and had a shower only but was clean and plenty of hot water.
Our only complaint was that there was no air conditioning which is not switched on until 15 June. However it was 30 degrees + the whole week we were there and room became unbearably hot in the afternoon and evening. The staff did give us a fan for the room but I think they should be a little more flexible with the AC to make your stay more comfortable during unseasonably hot weather.

We have just got back from a wonderful holiday and wanted to say how lovely and friendly the hotel is. The room was spacious and very clean, the rooms were cleaned daily, the bathroom decor is very 70's but don't let it put you off! The food was excellent and the waiters were friendly, helpful and pleasant and really helped make our holiday experience even better. The pool area was very clean and the beach was also clean and well looked after. The hotel is situated in a perfect spot in Maiori which is great for exploring the rest of the Almalfi coast. All in all a brilliant time!!!!
