“Great food and location, but considerable issues at this hotel”
Reviewed August 20, 2011

We stayed at this hotel for two weeks on our honeymoon, but we did encounter a number of issues. Firstly it's very noisy indeed. There is noise from both outside and in other rooms. We had to be moved half way through our holiday because the noise via the adjoining door. The people next door had just arrived and we got to know initimate details of their lives because of this. We were then moved to another room for the second week, but sadly this was no better. We could her the husband and wife next door arguing and even could hear the male snoring at night. This whole hotel needs sound proofing. It was a truly awful experience from a sleep perspective.

The first room we stayed in was very poor quality and clearly needed updating. For example the minibar fridge didn't work. The lifts in this hotel are terrible. They have two lifts and they only take four people at a time. We just used the stairs instead really.

It is good that the hotel has access to a beach, if it didn't you'd pay a considerable amount each day. However, the sun loungers are piled high on the beach, there is hardly any space at all. You literally bump into the next person if you try to go to behind the back of your sun lounger. On your last day they also try to charge you for the beach, which I think is ridiculous.

The hotel says it has sky tv in all rooms. It does not, in the first room we had 7 channels with only 2 being in english. When we moved to the second room, we did get sky tv, but it was italian sky and we only had three english channels. Now we didn't go on holiday to watch tv, but I do think that the hotel and thomson need to be a bit more honest in their marketing. Tv can be a luxury while your partner is getting ready if you have no balcony!

Don't expect much night life in Maiori if you are 20-40 years old. We spoke to other guests in this age range and they often asked what we were doing at nights after the evening meal. There's not many places to go, so we just went for walks and went back to the room to read. We just ended getting up earlier rather than staying out late.It is mainly a safe family place. Also, Maiori isn't really set up for english speaking tourists, it seems to be more for italian or native tourists really.

The food at this hotel is fantastic, we went half board and there was a choice of three options for each of the three courses at dinner. The chef is clearly very talented and should be complimented on the high standard of food. Breakfast is very good as well.

It's a shame really because this hotel has so much potential. For example, they should install wireless internet in all rooms. They could also have more entertainment such as a band or film nights, sports nights etc. The hotel facilities need considerably redeveloping.

I've put a similar review to this on Thomson, if you can't find it, it's been removed or supressed.

Make sure you make use of the lovely Roof Terrace bar/restaurant. Very friendly staff especially Roberto (top man!).

Food delicious! Maître d' very attentive - nothing too much trouble. Beach opposite hotel, pretty busy but bed system works very well. Rooms spacious, clean and comfortable. Worth paying extra for the balcony sea view.

Room Tip: Pay for balcony sea view

Having read other reviews about this hotel we were rather apprehensive as we arrived at the hotel. But how wrong we were - everything was far better than expected. Our rooms were extremely well decorated and immaculately clean. There was storage space we couldn't even fill! The beds were very comfortable though the pillows were a little hard. The air conditioning in the rooms worked well 24 hours a day. We were particularly impressed that the towels were changed daily. The cleaning staff were friendly and obliging. Reception staff varied and we felt that some needed training with their 'people skills' and information about local services were not easily accessed.
There were some beautifully designed areas on the ground floor and the terrace bar was superb - amazing views over the coastline and a calm atmosphere. The staff were very efficient, professional, polite and (after a while) friendly.
Though the pool was very small the area around it was never overcrowded and once again the views were amazing. We chose the hotel because it has its own private beach but one hour on the beach was enough! We had forgotten the regimentation of Italian beaches and the sunbeds placed so close to each other that privacy disappears! Also the beach itself was disappointing as it was not sand as we know it but more like small grit.
However the real gem at this hotel was the restaurant- breakfasts were good but the evening meals were incredible - a choice of real gourmet food which suited all 3 of us though we all have different tastes. The service, under the superb control of the maitre 'Mino,' was excellent very attentive but not intrusive. Mino is a master of his art and made the evening meal an experience to relish and look forward to whilst lazing by the pool. All three of us would definitely return

We have just returned from spending 2 weeks at the Hotel Panorama. It was just so beautiful, the room overlooked the sea, it was very comfortable, super clean and the staff were all brilliant and so caring-they could not do enough to please. We had intended going out a couple of evenings for meals but the food was so good and so beautifully presented that we found ourselves thinking where would we go outside the hotel to find meals and service at a similar level? We stayed and had all our evening meals at the hotel and enjoyed every one!
The beach was only across from the hotel and although it was busy most days, we had a sunbed each which was included in the price. Maiori is a brilliant base for visiting so many other places-Capri, Pompeii, Amalphi etc. We also enjoyed travelling by water taxi to several destinations. There is a beautiful walk from Maiiori to Minori which we went on a couple of times. It was hard work walking up the steps in the heat but when we got to the top the beautiful views were worth it! No wonder we met so many people who came back year after year to the hotel.

Just returned from a week long stay at the Panorama Hotel. We had a wonderful holiday however we have left with mixed feelings about the hotel. The service at reception is poor. Most of the staff there were miserable with the exception of two members of staff. The waiters and waitress were fantastic, good service at breakfast, the roof bar and in particular at dinner, very friendly. The head waiter Carmine was most helpful and very friendly.

The views were fantastic, a beautiful setting. The pool is very small however it is so peaceful and relaxing we spent more time there than at the beach. The beach is overcrowded with no space between umbrellas and beds so it's quite uncomfortable. Also, most guests we spoke to seemed to have beds right at the back even during a 2 week stay which seems quite unreasonable. I wouldn't recommend this as a beach holiday as the beach is disappointing.

Breakfast was good with a selection of hot and cold foods as well as fesh fruit and pastries. Dinner was also very good, with a good selection of fresh food.

Now to the room. We didn't have a sea view as the hotel was full and so no other rooms available. The decor was dated but the room was satisfactory, only the bathroom was a little more disappointing with old taps and a strange bath that was very narrow. The room info stated that there was Sky TV however we were told there was none (possibly only in sea view rooms?) there was only CNN and BBC world news. I did see one or two ants in the bathroom but didn't see this as a huge problem being in a hot climate and so didn't make a complaint. However, on our last night we returned to an army of ants on the inside of the bathroom door crawling on our clothes and towels. This is obviously a problem judging from other reviews and the only major downfall of our stay and the hotel itself.

Overall the location was excellent, stunning views and great waiting staff. The biggest let down were the rooms and the cleanliness of them to be honest which makes it hard to judge this hotel as a four star.

Room Tip: Sounds like sea-view rooms are much much better.

we were one of the most beautiful places we visited: the coastal amlfitana is a lovely place! A wonderful holiday was contributing to this hotel: central location, and that allowed us to reach both the beach and places to visit easily. good service than the restaurant, the food is great and well laid out
on the terrace on the top floor there is a charming landscape, offers excellent service in the morning and the evening restaurant you can taste cocktails made with care and joy by the staff.
In conclusion, excellent hotel, beautifully situated in a lovely place!
