“Great views and excellent service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 6, 2011

We visited the Botanico for three nights during our Honeymoon and we were very impressed with the hotel.

It occupies an imposing position on the cliff side overlooking the town of Maori, it appeared to us to be the most striking hotel in the town. Being on a cliff side however did mean that its a long walk up there! Not a problem for us but anyone with mobility problems or who isn't used to walking up so many steps would really struggle. (We did have to walk up in the rain one night which wasn't that pleasant!)

The service which we received at the hotel was impeccable. Precisely what you expect from a five star hotel and when the reception staff realised that we were on our honeymoon we were quickly upgraded into a bigger room with a large wrap around terrace. As stated in the title the views are exceptional.

The rooms are beautifully furnished and the housekeeping was fantastic. There is a good selection at breakfast and the chef does perfect poached eggs!

We were slightly disappointed that we weren't aware until arrival that the pool didn't open until June, however we still had a lovely stay.

Considering that we visited the Amalfi Coast for the second time we didn't expect too much suprises. But we were proved wrong on our first day already when we arrived at Hotel Botanico - because they overexceeded all our expectations.
We don't know what to mention first:
The overwhelming friendliness and professionality of the staff, the breathtaking view from the spacious terrace that we had in front of our room (deluxe room, we got an upgrade!), the brand new luxurious rooms where you feel that every single item is handpicked by the owner himself and last but not least the outstanding personal treatment - starting with the maid up to the owner etc. And there were so many more highlights that we don't want to mention here because we feel that they are unique and that everybody who will spend some time at the Botanico will have his/her own highlights.
All in one we had an unforgettable stay and for sure we'll come back again!

We stayed here for a 5 day break over Easter.

In brief:
PROS - lovely views from balcony, very helpful staff
CONS - no vehicle access to hotel (10 minute walk uphill), no shower in our superior room (just a jacuzzi bath) and virtually no natural light in bathroom

In detail:
Room - we had booked a standard room and were given a superior room which was very nice. The decor of the room was nice and the cleanliness was very good. Only downside was the bathroom which had nearly no natural light and was very dark and had no shower - just a bath.

Breakfast - this was ok. a lot of the bread/cake products were stale but there was cereal and cheese and meats. we had to ask if we wanted milk, coffee, eggs etc but the staff were very helpful if we did ask.

Location - the hotel does not have vehicle access and to get there. There is a porter who will take your suitcases up when you arrive and down when you leave. It is is approx a 10 minute walk uphill and up a lot of steps to get to the hotel so no good for wheelchair users. The views are great when you get there but we didn't realise that we would not be able to drive all the way there (I am 7 months pregnant) so this was a bit of a surprise.

Parking - this is next to Hotel Miramare down near the seafront and costs 20 euros per day.

Amenities - As at the beginning of May the hotel does not yet have a swimming pool or fitness centre - these are still being built.

Restaurant - The hotel does serve a set three course meal in the evening for 45 euros per person but there is no choice. We did not see anyone eating there and due to the location of the hotel there is not really any passing trade for the hotel to benefit from. We did not eat there so I can't comment on what the food is like.

Overall - the staff were lovely and could not do enough to help.

We stayed two nights in this hotel because of our honeymoon. First of all the Hotel is situated on a hill with a breathtaking view. Every picture we took was a postcard picture. The inside of the hotel is as beautiful as the outside view. Beautifully decorated and together with the botanic garden a really unique style. The hotel is situated almost in the middle of the Amalfi coast so every hot spot is nearby. Also a really great michelin star restaurant called Capo d'Orso is nearby (at a 5 minute drive towards Salerno).
The hotel was empty because it was the end of the season so we had the whole hotel for ourselves but they still managed to let us feel like royals. The staff was really kind, almost like friends and they did everything to please us. More than you expect of a 5 start hotel.
Because it was our wedding night they had filled up the bath and there were flowers floating in it. After we entered the room for about 5 minutes the brought a bottle of sparkling wine and when we went to bed we saw flower leaves in the shape of a heart on the bed. All these nice little details made our honeymoon even better.
The room was spotless, big comfortable bed, delicious jacuzzi, outside warm water shower, outside sun beds, terrace with table and chairs and a techno gym
In the mornings we had two delicious room service breakfasts: one on our private terrace which belonged to our suite (which was the nicest in the hotel) and one inside the suite at a nice round table. Everything else you would expect from a 5 star hotel was available.
We had the time of our lives and we will be going back for sure so we would recommend this hotel to everybody who likes luxury, comfort, style and relaxation.

Room Tip: All the rooms are great

Hotel Bontanico San Lazzaro in Maiori,Italy was truly the gem of our trip.We stayed at 5 star hotel's in Rome,Isle of Capri and Revello prior to Botonica San Lazzaro and had good service at all.At San Lazzaro they had a outstanding facility with all the amenities that you expect in a five star hotel but we experienced something more..... We felt as if we were staying with good friends. The beach was a short walk away but the hotel was positioned in such a way that we woke up to a post card view each morning. If there is such a thing as a 6 star hotel this is it.

This is one of the best hotels we have ever stayed on, and we have travelled quite a lot. We stayed for 2 nights in spetember and everything is five star, from the luxury of the rooms to the amazing service. The decoration is unbelievable, and you feel you are inside a museum. The views are extraordinary and they have a terrace where you can have a great breakfast and/or dinner which are delicious by the way. Everyone in the staff does everything to make you feel at home, Vincenzo at the restaurant does a great job.
If you want to have a unique experience I will highly suggest you to stay here!!

We stubbled upon the Hotel Botanico San Lazzaro by googling for 5*Hotels on the Amalfi Coast. We were very pleasantly surprised to find a hotel that was not only brand new but had the service of a 6* hotel. Dont be put off that you are not in one of the tourist hot spots like Ravello or Positano as you can easily hire a car or get on the bus. Really worth a visit and we will go back again without doubt,
