We were thrilled with our experience at L'Osteria and think they deserve high praise for exceptional food and service.

We had unknowingly arrived twenty minutes before their dinner opening hours, but that wasn't a problem. The kind waitress just explained that this is the time that the staff has their evening meal, but we could sit at a table, have drinks and wait until they officially opened. What a rare kind of attitude!

So, she seated us at a table and served us Prosecco, fresh bread and some of the best olives we'd ever tasted. She explained that the olives were from the owner's mother's garden. We asked if it was possible to buy some jars, but she said that, unfortunately, they weren't for sale. Oh well, we thought, you can't buy everything...

The meal was superb. We started with barley and chick pea soups. They were served in breaded bowls that complimented the soups perfectly. We also had pizza, risotto and the pasta/sauce of the day. To go with the meal, we went with the waitress's recommendation of local red wine. Everything was delicious.

There is a large selection of pizza, but the rest of the menu is quite small. But, to me, this is an advantage and it means that they focus on what they do well and everything is fresh.

The highlight of the evening was when we asked to pay. Instead of the waitress bringing our bill, it was the owner, carrying two jars of olives that he gave to us as a gift. Amazing. We had a nice chat with him about where the olives come from and about the rest of our meal. It's so refreshing to see someone take such pride in his work and to share his passion for good food.

L'Osteria should be rated one of the best restaurants in Livigno, but last night we were glad that we experienced it when it's still a well-kept secret and is able to maintain such charm. But, the owners and staff deserve to be praised and to succeed in their chosen craft.

Thank you, everyone at L'Osteria, for giving us such a lovely evening. We'll be back soon!

Visited for dinner with my more significant half in March 2015.
So far we have found no faults in what the restaurant offers. Let's go step by step.
There is a bar (as part of the restaurant) in case you arrive before 7pm or there are no table you can hang out there. Decor inside is great - a lot of character of the old alpine village (check the wall and the old barn door - as you enter, further to the left!), lots of space so guests can feel very relaxed without the typical move-the-chair-together-with-the-guy-from-the-next-table. Discrete ambient light (dark enough that it is cosy, yet bright enough you can read the menu, see who you came with and what's on the plate) and (oki - this is my hobby horse) background music.
What's up with that? well, firstly it is the mellow classics from the 50/60's, loud enough you recognise the tune yet quiet enough you can have a quiet conversation with your partner. FINALLY SOMEBODY GOT THAT RIGHT!
Food - yes, very good. Well prepared, well served, very nice flavours (try the fresh bread - outstanding! typical mountain bread but soooo fresh!) . Top marks.
Tip to the management: when the bread is served (and so oil, vinegar, salt, etc.) you might want to add a small plate for each diner. Dripping oil over the bread is quite stressful feeling I'll mess up the tablecloth in a moment.
Staff is very polite and moves at the speed of light - again top marks! no need to hunt them down with long stares - they definitely feel the vibe of the customers.
For a dinner for 2 (2x mains, 2x sides, 2x puddings, 2x coffee, wine, beer) we left 60Eur.

I ate in this restaurant in winter 2013 and 2014. The owner was always there ready and happy to help us. Great place to come with kids. The food is fresh and tasty. Will be back this year!
