“A glistening jewel”
Reviewed August 17, 2014

We are a party of 6 travelling from Australia with an age group between 35 and 60.We had heard about the Aeolian Islands but were clueless about what to expect in Lipari. We were excited when Hotel staff picked us up from the wharf and held on with white knuckles as the driver manoeuvred his vehicle through oblivious pedestrians, narrow alleys and very, very old stone buildings. We were somewhat relieved that it was only a 4 minute transfer up the hill to Hotel Bougainville.
None of us could speak more than a little Italian but had no worries communicating.(Okay...there were a few thoughtful pauses and the odd charade or two)
Our first impression was one of Wow! The accommodation buildings were set in small groups within the well maintained grounds with an inviting swimming pool and poolside "mini" bar. Large umbrellas were available for protection from the sun (there seemed to be a lot of that as it didn't get dark until late) and nothing was too much trouble for the young lady who took our lunch orders and delivered them poolside. The hotel had a roomy lobby where you can sit in or outdoor and enjoy a drink while waiting to go to dinner or just escape for a while. The restaurant served delicious, traditional cuisine. (Try the steak with green peppercorns..delicious) The sunrises were only rivalled by the sunsets. An almost full moon appeared to beam a gleaming white and golden trail onto the sea below. Now back to the hotel and its comfortable and unique rooms, each themed with colours of the Mediterranean. Tiled floors throughout and a daily service ensured that the rooms were always very clean. Window shutters and flowing sheer curtains meant you could sleep in if you wanted to. The views, the availability of the shuttle bus, the staff and comfort of this hotel makes me more than happy to recommend it to all age groups. There were family groups yet the pool area did not become a playground. The nightlife kept those of us who wished to party into the early hours happy and it was easy enough and safe to walk back to the hotel. We are 6 very happy Aussies eager to return. Thankyou Hotel Bougainville!

Room Tip: Maybe an upstairs room would provide a better view

Hotel was great, specially the service. Location was also a plus, shutle service to the port was more than useful. Swimming pool was great as well as the access to the city center. Views are match what offer on the website.

We have just left this hotel and cannot fault it! We asked for a room with the best view which we got
Good quiet location within easy walk to the town. The staff were amazing and really helpful
Cannot comment on the food as we did not eat there. The pool was lovelybut when we stayed there was no parasol at the pool area
Breakfast was nice typical of Italian buffet breakfast but the coffee was not great but that is not a major issue

The staff here are great and exceeded our expectations. The hotel is relatively new and the rooms clean and spacious. We chose rooms with the sea views and they were great. Breakfasts were good and evening meals were ok but there is also plenty of choice in the town. There is a free shuttle into town that we used a couple of times but it is not far to walk. We would look forward to staying there again.

Fabulous place to stay, incredible value for money, rooms spacious, we had a balcony looking towards the sea and another facing inland too. Our friends' room had a bath. Comfortable king size bed. Sheets good but towels old and tired. Easy walk into town (10 minutes) - ask for directions as there is a cut through footpath, do not take the road. Call to say what time your ferry will arrive and the lovely Pasquale arrives with a welcoming smile to shuttle you to the hotel. Wonderful to be in such a tranquil spot with a super view - yet you can easily walk into and back from town for an evening meal. Great pool area. 5 euros to hire a pool towel. Breakfast is ok, but you are charged extra if you pour yourself a second cup of tea or coffee ?! The waiter hovers as if on guard. Be warned !

Room Tip: All rooms have sea views and are quiet. Our friends paid 7 euros more than us per night and had a ba...

Arrived to warm reception and shown to beautiful traditional room which was very clean and had a really great bathroom with very fancy shower! The pool area was very quiet and clean. The breakfast was great and it's only a five minute walk to the centre of town. Perfect.

The staff in the Hotel Bougainville are all helpful. The front desk helped us arrange our excursion to Stromboli, which made things much less confusing (there are so many choices!). The facility is absolutely perfect. Additionally, the price was very reasonable. The pool area looked lovely, but we did not have time to use it. We also did not use the fitness centre or spa.
