Owner description: Parco Zoo Punta Verde is a privately run zoo and consequently receives no public funds. Its revenue is derived solely from its entrance fees. Parco Zoo Punta Verde’s mission is founded on four key points: Education of the public to raise awareness and sensitivity about animals and the environment, with targeted educational programs aimed at the general public and schools of all types and levels. Conservation of endangered species through in situ and ex situ programmes. The zoo’s visitors are active participants in its awareness and fundraising campaigns that allow endangered species to be protected in their natural habitats while offering the local populations opportunities for sustainable development. Research via partnerships with organizations such as universities, museums and scientific institutions in general. And last, but not least, the excitement of a day out for adults and children alike, in a pleasant setting that brings them into contact with nature, thus helping to respect it. Visiting a modern zoo means ensuring a future for nature, thanks to all the ventures aimed at preserving its delicate balance. Parco Zoo Punta Verde covers an area of 100,000 square metres in a loop of the Tagliamento river, in the north-western part of the Lignano peninsula, and is home to over 1,000 animals of around 200 species of mammals, birds and reptiles. The zoo is open from March to November; opening hours can be found on the official website

Easy to follow due to the signs displayed "Follow Me!" Great locations to feed animals however the fish didn't seem to eat the food that was provided to all patrons to feed them. On the negative -- we didn't see any Zoo Keepers around to prevent curious folks from bothering animals and the cafe's had so-so food available.

If you are spending a vacation period in one of the surrounding beaches in North Adriatic see (Lignano or Bibione) and you have kids, this zoo is a very nice half-day diversion from the beach, especially advisable if the weather is not good enough to spend the day on the sand.
The good:
- the zoo is really extremely well maintained and clean, full of greenery and pleasant to walk -in as a trip in a big garden
- it seems that there is the utmost respect for the animals. None of those sad, prison-like bars that you see in some zoos. There is a great effort in re-creating the animal habitat. This could turn in a disadvantange, as with so much greenery and protection for the animals, some of them become not visible at all.
- the collection of animals is quite large and covers species from all over the world. There are very interesting panels explaining details of the animals you are visiting.
- there are here and there games and plays for the little ones
The not-so-good:
- the location is a bit far from the vacation cities (5 km from Lignano, for example) so, if you don't have a car it might take some time to reach by bus. On the contrary, coming by car is very convenient as there is a large free parking lot just at the entrance.
- the entrance price is little bit expensive for adults
- as said, the attention to re-create the animal natural habitat, results in making them sometimes invisible. In our visit we just saw some of the most appealing animals (lions, black panther etc) from very far as you have to peep at them from small holes in the surrounding walls (I even doubt the kids really saw them) and some of them we did not see at all (tiger). But I guess this is the price to pay if you want to respect the animal livings.

All in all a good half-day diversion from the beach for the kids of all ages.

It's the only zoo close to where I live so I went a couple times with family or school. It shows mostly any type of animals living in planet Earth, especially animals from hot and tropical landscapes: giraffes, lions, tigers, zebras, hippopotamus, monkeys.. A great place to go with kids, they can see real animals like they see them on books or on tv.

A small zoo, not much to see. I did not consider intresting seeing goats, shhs and other domestic animals that i can see in ny grandmothers yard. I liked the giraffes, tigers,...the kids were bored ! Better do something else!

it was a hot day- but we took the bus which takes you right to the zoo. the price is a little high for adults! I mean we really are only accompanying the kids! my daughter liked seeing the different animals. she loved feeding the goats and sheep!
