My sixth visit to Italy again proved how friendly and helpful Italians greet visitors. Met with champagne and delicious sweets to tour the beautiful and well maintained property, my husband and friends settled in to a comfortable base from which we visited surrounding towns of Villa Convento for our first taste of vino della casa and regional food amidst local Italians; Lecce for a visit to a well preserved castle, Romanesque amphitheatre and theater museum, and impressive duomo finishing with tasty dinner and and grappa in a ristorante, and Gallipoli, a fishing village with medieval castle/fort and extensive fish market where they were shelling Riccio. Lunch included tasty sea bass. Our hosts: Antonio, Antonio and Augusta, met our every need and wish with amiable promptness. Love these Italian folks! Renting a car took us where we wished to go among unending vineyards and olive groves and abundant wildflowers.
