Everything in Lecce, including the Duomo and other main attractions all close for a minimum of 4 hrs. every afternoon leaving tourists with nothing to do. All churches, attractions, stores and restaurants close for the afternoon with the exception of a couple of coffee and gelato shops. Evidently tourism is not important to the people of Lecce. After lunch with nothing to do I got bored and left rather than sit in my car for 3 hours waiting for things to open.

It's nice. Santa Chiara and San Matteo are also worth seeing. The piazza is lovely at night with the lights.

If you are touring Italy it can sometimes seem like one Duomo after another. In this case it was a bit different as a wedding was going on. The priest gave a long sermon with lots of hand gestures and we continued our but stopped later on the way back as they were coming out of the church. It was a bit like those gypsy weddings that we have seen on TV in UK recently, but I think someone should start importing those silver top hats for grooms!

The Duomo of Lecce is not the most ornamented Baroque work of art that you'll see, especially when compared to some in Sicily, and it is truly beautiful. The crypt is interesting and spooky. We visited at Easter and the flowers were breathtaking - literally. Look up as well as around you as there are many high sculptures which deserve attention. The exterior is highly ornamented, and the entry is designed on the lines of an altar. Equally - amazingly - beautiful at night. You gasp as you walk into piazza Duomo by night. It is one of the most beautiful piazzas in Italy.

It's just amazing. Spacious, with a beautiful baroque flavor, and the square in front of it is one of the best in the world, quite and enclosed in gorgeous buildings.
